This month, everything here is a digital creation using artificial intelligence. This is a cheat but I wanted to see exactly what it could do when fine-tuned. I still prefer the old way.
Greetings: March was one hell of a month. Almost 1/4 of it was spent off the road because of the disabled vehicle. I lost my clutch and while it was waiting to be repaired, somebody stole my catalytic converter. This gave me an unprompted vacation and a lot of frustration. I did not take full advantage of the time off as I could have, but I made some significant leaps forward in things like the backyard and the novel. Hopefully, April will bring us back to some kind of normalcy.

We are bordering on annoying......
At the moment, I find myself simply going through the motions as I await the completion of my car repairs. Earlier, I received a call from the Kia dealership asking me to come in for a quick check-in on my vehicle. When I arrived, Ben, my service advisor, took me aside to discuss some concerns. He pointed out that the inner tie rods were showing signs of wear, but rather than explaining the details over the phone, he wanted me to see the issue firsthand. I wasn't surprised, as I had already suspected this problem was looming.
As for the air conditioning, I was informed that the replacement parts were expected to arrive first thing tomorrow morning. Ben seemed optimistic, aiming to have everything installed by noon, but I'm approaching this with a healthy dose of skepticism. With April 1st just around the corner, it feels like I'm caught in yet another cycle of anticipation and routine, hoping for a resolution but bracing for delays.

It took hours........
Today's activities were largely centered around tending to my car. I had envisioned a day of adventure, after getting it picked up and exploring the city for a few hours, but those plans quickly unraveled. When the mechanic finally returned my vehicle, I was greeted with a disappointing sight; greasy fingerprints smeared across the exterior, a clear sign of carelessness. It was surprising to me that a professional would overlook such a simple detail.
Frustrated but determined, I took to washing my car in a light drizzle, the rain mingling with soap suds as I scrubbed away the smudges. Despite the less-than-ideal circumstances, I felt a sense of satisfaction as I restored the shine to the surface. Now, with the car back in my possession and looking much better, I'm ready to hit the road first thing in the morning, eager for the adventures that await.
The good and bad of the world around me......
I've been out of work for the past 11 days, and it's truly starting to wear on my nerves. Today, I had hoped to finally pick up my car and reintegrate myself into a productive routine with a rejuvenating run lasting two to three hours. Unfortunately, that plan fell through. When I finally received the call around 2:00 PM, I eagerly grabbed an Uber and made my way to the repair shop. Once there, I was met with the frustrating reality that retrieving my car would take nearly three hours. The staff needed to haggle over the bill and clarify multiple details, which extended the process significantly.
One of the main sticking points was the service fee; an outrageous $190.00 per hour. This charge felt exorbitant! On top of that, they slapped on a one-hour diagnostic fee just to confirm the car wouldn't shift into gear. The mechanic's approach was incredibly straightforward; he simply settled into the driver's seat, started the engine, and attempted to shift gears; a process that took a mere 30 seconds. It was infuriating to think that I would be billed $190.00 for something so trivial, particularly after I had already informed them that the car wouldn't shift at all. Some charges are understandable, but this one was beyond reason.
By the time I finally retrieved my car, my entire day had been derailed, robbing me of valuable working hours. Nevertheless, I'm determined to spring into action first thing tomorrow. I've already prepared a hearty lunch and I'm eager to dive back into my workflow. I've set up a structured routine that will help me chip away at my projects effectively. I plan to meticulously verify the series I have stored on my hard drive and take a thorough inventory of my extensive PDF library, tackling it in small, manageable chunks each day.
In addition to that, I've committed to proofreading one chapter of my novel daily, and I anticipate having it polished and ready for publication by the end of the month. I also keep one item from my master list active at all times, ensuring that I make incremental strides on each task, little by little, every single day.
As the day drew to a close, I indulged in a delicious fish sandwich while catching an episode of American Horror Story. However, as night settled in, I found myself struggling to fall asleep, which raises concerns for tomorrow's productivity. Nonetheless, I'm determined to push through, regardless of the restless night ahead.
Back at it...

Back to whatever normal is........
I was on the road exactly when I expected to be, and the day was quite calm. Most of the rides were average in length and payment, but there was a significant amount of time between them. Starting out early in the morning, I found myself on the outskirts of the city and stayed there for most of the day. Overall, it turned out fine, as the rides were close enough together that it didn't negatively impact my finances. However, gas prices are ridiculous right now, and I can understand why many drivers are saying that this situation is not sustainable. I'm curious to see what happens in the future. On a positive note, the new clutch is functioning well, and the air conditioning is working perfectly.
Already tired......
This morning, I found myself struggling to pull myself out of bed, the aftermath of a restless night weighing heavily on me. My sleep had been plagued by jarring muscle cramps that interspersed my dreams with an uncomfortable sense of unease. Despite the shaky start, I summoned the resolve to rise and greet the day. To my surprise, I navigated through my morning routine with a sense of accomplishment, even managing to tackle several tasks from my evening routine before stepping out of the house.
As I settled back into my daily rhythm, a flicker of excitement sparked in my mind; I had remembered to pack a delicious chicken sandwich for the day's adventures ahead. When I returned home later, the tantalizing aroma of grilled hamburgers and hot dogs wafted through the air, instantly lifting my spirits and satisfying my cravings. Lately, my palate has felt particularly unfulfilled, so indulging in classic picnic fare was precisely what I needed to restore my culinary contentment.
In addition to satisfying my hunger, I dedicated time to proofreading another chapter of my novel, inching closer to my goal and celebrating the milestone of being 25% done. Just a few more days of effort, and I'll be even closer to completion! To unwind, I curled up on the couch and watched an episode of American Horror Story, its eerie twists capturing my attention until I finally drifted off to sleep at a reasonable hour. With tomorrow looming, I felt a mix of anticipation and hope for what it would bring.

at least it was interesting........
Today felt remarkably significant, almost biblical in nature, as it encompassed both the intriguing start and the poignant conclusion of my experiences. The first ride of my day was particularly memorable; I welcomed a vibrant young woman into my back seat, exuding a lively spirit that hinted at a carefree, perhaps even unconventional, moral compass. She radiated a free-spirited aura, reminiscent of the hippie movement, sitting cross-legged in the backseat, her outfit undeniably daring for the position. With a whimsical gesture, she shed her shoes and socks, a symbolic act of shedding societal expectations.
As we navigated the roads, her passionate voice filled the air with musings about the love permeating the universe, the profound spirituality woven into the fabric of our world, and the relentless suffering that we, as a collective, must strive to alleviate. The car quickly became infused with an earthy fragrance, reminiscent of freshly turned soil and blooming wildflowers; a scent that seemed to echo her free-spirited nature. Ironically, beneath her free-flowing demeanor, this young woman was a law student, creating a delightful contrast that made our interaction all the more amusing.
However, as I dropped her off at her lavish home in Collierville, a sudden discomfort arose within me at her request for a long hug before parting ways. Although she advocated for the importance of hugs in spreading kindness, I politely declined, sensing a boundary that felt necessary to uphold. For a brief moment, disappointment flickered across her face, but she quickly shook it off, bouncing into her grand house with a skip that bespoke her youthful exuberance. What a curious young woman! I hope she cherishes that vibrant attitude; she genuinely appeared to be a kind soul.
Later in the day, I was unexpectedly thrust into a 300-mile round trip to Little Rock. Initially hesitant, I contemplated declining the trip, but then I learned that I was to pick up a passenger from Enterprise Rent-A-Car. This led me to a stranded truck driver, an owner-operator whose vehicle had broken down after leaving him stuck for an astonishing 45 days. He was desperate to return to Dallas, crafting a plan to undertake smaller segments of his journey. With Uber's services not reaching that far, he decided to make the trek to Little Rock to catch another Uber that would take him closer to home.
He offered me a generous sum to drive him all the way to Dallas, but I turned him down. Our conversation unfolded into a rich dialogue sprinkled with humor and camaraderie as we discussed his life, the current state of the world, shared snippets of music, and even delved into our mutual love for science fiction. The journey was filled with genuine laughter, transforming a simple ride into a meaningful exchange. After dropping him off, I embarked on the 150-mile trip back home, allowing the weight of the day to settle comfortably upon me as I reflected on the remarkable encounters I had experienced.
The before and after......
I had a slightly better night's sleep, though I found myself tossing and turning due to persistent muscle cramps that nagged at me. I suspect these could be tied to my hydration levels, but it's also possible that my legs were restless, as I vividly dreamed about running and engaging in other physical activities. While I often wander through mundane dreams that leave me feeling a bit unsettled, nothing felt too out of the ordinary this time.
After waking up, I moved through my morning routine with a sense of calm efficiency. I managed to check off each task on my list, feeling a small sense of accomplishment as I prepared to leave for work.
When I returned home later in the day, a wave of exhaustion washed over me. The extra trip had taken its toll, and I could hardly wait to satiate my hunger. I dove into a hearty meal of succulent chicken meatballs alongside perfectly cooked pasta. They were absolutely delicious! Laura had worked her magic in the kitchen again. It's amusing how we have this ongoing misunderstanding about this dish; she seems convinced that I don't enjoy it, while in reality, it's one of my favorites.
After dinner, I settled into a peaceful evening, embracing the quiet and allowing myself to unwind before slipping into bed. Tomorrow brings a new day, full of possibilities.

Still doing well........
The current theme revolves around the challenging issue of gas prices. This week, despite only working three days, I found myself shelling out over $100 for fuel; a significant increase compared to my usual weekly expenditure, which typically aligns with a full week of work, even when I take a day off. While the rates and bonuses I receive do provide some relief from these escalating costs, they fall short of making a substantial difference. The situation is exacerbated by our shortage of drivers; the existing operational model clearly teeters on the edge of sustainability, particularly if fuel prices continue their upward trend. As a result, many drivers with larger vehicles have taken them off the roads, leaving those of us with smaller or electric cars, like mine, to shoulder the increased demand.
As for the Easter holiday, the atmosphere was relatively tranquil. I didn't experience much downtime, nor were there many short runs to fill the gaps. However, I did have the opportunity to engage with two remarkably interesting riders. The first was a young individual who identified as a sex worker and was candid about their profession. They presented as distinctly feminine yet did not categorize themselves strictly as female. Their demeanor hinted they might be new to this line of work, as they felt compelled to provide context about themselves. I made it a point to respect their preferred pronouns and, while I kept the conversation polite, I didn't delve too deeply into their life; simply put, it was an intriguing glimpse into that world.
The second rider was a gentleman whom I dropped off in one of the city's more questionable neighborhoods. As we drove, he noted that the rear suspension of my vehicle could use some attention, and when he proposed that I join him for a cup of tea, I found it hard to refuse, especially as it was around lunchtime. So, I grabbed my sandwich and an apple and settled down with him. I had the chance to meet his sons and wife, and our conversation flowed easily. At one point, he humorously referred to himself with a derogatory term that he also playfully applied to me, which I won't repeat here to maintain the tone of this blog. It's a term widely recognized as the *N* word. Despite this offhand remark, I sensed he was genuinely a good man who cherished his life and family. He didn't shy away from making light of himself or his situation. I left the encounter with a sense of appreciation for meeting such authentic people, and he offered me several compelling suggestions that I found quite valuable.
Look, Ideas......
Before I stepped out to tackle the day's responsibilities, I ensured that everything was meticulously organized, as I find comfort in that structure. I was slightly delayed in leaving, but only by a few minutes, which I deemed manageable. After a fulfilling workday, I returned home and devoted time to sorting through the week's paperwork, a task that loomed over me with a deadline approaching by tomorrow morning. I also took the opportunity to update my blogs, pouring my thoughts into each post, and methodically crossed off the remaining items on my to-do list.
Dinner was a delightful bowl of red beans and rice, each bite warm and satisfying; a true comfort food. Afterward, I took a moment to check my blood sugar levels, relieved to see they were right within the ideal range. As a reward for my diligence, I indulged in a rich slice of chocolate cake, a treat that Laura had brought home to celebrate her birthday, the taste of chocolate melting in my mouth.
As the evening settled in, I nestled into my work area, resolved to retire at a reasonable hour. I wanted to greet the upcoming week with renewed energy and enthusiasm. My mind wandered to the repairs my Kia needed; the thought of it nagged at me. I had researched the front tie rods and was bubbling with ideas on how to address the rear end repairs without replacing the entire assembly, all thanks to the creative insights from my colorful friend and fellow tea enthusiast. Although I still needed to purchase two new tires, I decided that could wait a bit longer; the current tires show signs of wear but still have some life left in them.

Down and ouch........
The day began with a heavy sense of lethargy hanging over me, but after a moment of mental push, I managed to gather my strength and get moving. I ventured out of the neighborhood, excitement brewing for what the day might hold. However, my optimism was short-lived as my car suddenly started to misbehave. A disconcerting wobble took hold, and it felt as if the vehicle had a mind of its own, swaying unsteadily from side to side.
Frustrated, I realized that the culprit was the tie rods, which had finally succumbed to wear and tear. Despite the troubling signs, I carefully navigated the erratic ride and made it to Firestone, where the mechanics quickly diagnosed the issue. After an alarming $1,200 in repairs, I finally reclaimed my car, restored to its former glory. But the clock had ticked away half the day in this unexpected ordeal, and I found myself questioning the worth of hitting the road once again.
Reflecting on the unforeseen turn of events, I began to consider a new strategy—planning to take Mondays off starting next week, a decision that seemed to have been thrust upon me a bit sooner than I had anticipated.
Enlightening......
Typically, when my car is in the shop for repairs, I find myself waiting in the facility, passing the time in a rather mundane manner. However, today was different; I simply wasn't in the mood to sit in a waiting room. So, I opted for an Uber ride home instead. The initial journey was rather pleasant, a brief escape from the usual grind. Unfortunately, my return trip turned into my first negative Uber experience, which was quite unfortunate.
The driver was a young man behind the wheel of a sleek Dodge Charger. While the car exuded a certain charm, his driving left much to be desired. He sped recklessly through quiet neighborhoods, barely glancing at the stop signs that dotted the way as if they were mere suggestions. The thrill of the ride was overshadowed by a growing sense of unease. To add to my discomfort, he had the stereo blasting inappropriate music, laden with derogatory statements and a steady stream of curse words that filled the car's atmosphere, making it hard to breathe. With safety concerns at the forefront of my mind, I chose not to leave a review or a tip, feeling that any feedback I might provide would hardly reflect the seriousness of the experience.
Despite the frustrations of my Uber ordeal, I managed to spend the day productively, tackling a variety of tasks on my lengthy to-do list. I finally wrapped up my series, a project that had consumed much of my creative energy, and I felt a weight lift off my shoulders as I marked it as completed. I also dedicated time to editing my novel, polishing the words until they shone brightly. In addition, I painstakingly filled out nearly two dozen job applications across various online platforms. It's become a frustrating routine for me; I estimate that I've submitted over 500 applications at this point, each with the hope of finding a new opportunity but increasingly feeling the weight of rejection hanging overhead.

Hey, it's the first week........
Even though I'm fully aware of it, I hadn't consciously noted that we've just stepped into a brand new month. Each time the calendar flips, I've learned that rideshare apps typically experience a dip in driver availability during the first ten days. This fluctuation occurs because many companies initiate hiring sprees at the beginning of the month, welcoming a slew of new drivers into the fold. Unfortunately, it usually takes about a week for these novices to come to terms with the reality of the job and realize it may not be the right fit for them. As they bow out, the driver landscape gradually begins to stabilize once more. Until that shift happens, the rest of us are left grappling with the frustrating reality of long trips for minimal fares.
Yesterday, I found myself sidelined and unable to work due to unexpected car repairs. As I reflect on it, I can't help but think it might have been a twist of fate. Today, however, was far from kind; every mile seemed to require a desperate struggle, and the day did not go as I had hoped. A brief conversation with Anthony, a fellow driver I occasionally encounter, shed some light on the situation. He mentioned that his experience yesterday had been even worse than mine. When I recall the challenges I faced at the beginning of last month, it appears this is a recurring ordeal. It strikes me as simply a phase that will soon right itself.
Tomorrow morning, there's an open house scheduled at the crystal grotto in the industrial area targeted at logistics operators. I'm planning to make a stop there and explore what opportunities might await. Until then, all I can do is tread water, keeping my head above the waves of uncertainty.
Rough......
The morning unfolded like a heavy fog, dimming my motivation to rise from the warmth of my blankets. A restless night had left me groggy and sluggish, and getting out of bed felt like a monumental task. After several minutes of mental tug-of-war, I finally dragged myself into motion, only to be greeted by an email from one of the logistics companies in Millington, asking for a Zoom interview before I could even fully embrace the day. It took me by surprise and set me back about 45 precious minutes, but now that it's behind me, I find myself anxiously awaiting their response.
While preparing for the interview, the routine that usually flows so easily felt like wading through molasses. Eeach splash of water on my face felt like it required Herculean effort. I was battling an inner lethargy that threatened to pull me down entirely. The workday dragged on with tasks that seemed to multiply in size and complexity, but I persevered, drawing on the last reserves of my energy just to keep my head above water.
By the time I returned home in the late afternoon, exhaustion clung to me like a dense blanket. All I wanted was to surrender to the comfort of my bed and lose myself in sleep. Instead, I grabbed my computer and mindlessly scrolled through social media and news updates, escaping momentarily into the lives of others. In the midst of it all, I mustered the strength to fill out another dozen job applications, hoping to cast a wider net in my search.
For dinner, I took to the kitchen and whipped up two hamburgers, air-frying them to a golden perfection, though my appetite was nowhere near its peak. After a long day filled with challenges and fleeting moments of energy, I finally retreated to my sanctuary, ready to close my eyes. It wasn't the best day I've ever had, certainly, but perhaps not the worst either, a reminder that even the tough days carry their weight.
April 08, 2026
Things are extra........
For some reason, everything feels excessive right now. The assignments are overwhelming, the people are overwhelming, and society as a whole seems intense. I'm doing my best to push through, but I don't feel very accomplished today or throughout the week. At this point, I'm trying not to focus on what I am producing because things seem to turn out better that way. I'm really ready for this week to be over.
Working to be mundane......
I'm working towards achieving a balanced state. I'm not asking for much; I just want things to be normal and free of drama. Everyone seems to be overreacting today, which was quite disturbing. When I got home, my wife was busy taking care of things around the house. Even though I was exhausted from the day, I decided to help out by skimming the pool. I need to do some major work on it, including cleaning the filter and clarifying the water. I double-checked the hole for the garbage can pad, and it should be ready the day after tomorrow. After that, all I have to do is square it off and fill it with concrete. It's amazing how exciting the little things can be.
Into the phantasm...
..well, sort of....
April 09, 2026
I have rhythm........
After more than a week of uncertainty, I finally found my rhythm today. The requests for rides came pouring in, one after another, throughout the day. Some of the destinations were a bit far-flung, requiring me to cross the Mississippi River via the bridge into West Memphis, Arkansas; a route I had grown familiar with. It felt as though there were fewer drivers on the road today, particularly those qualified to traverse the bridge, which made my services all the more in demand. The day brought a satisfying blend of shorter jaunts and extended trips, and I was pleasantly surprised by the warmth and friendliness of the passengers I picked up along the way. Their cheerful conversations added an extra spark to my day and made the hours fly by.
The good and the bad of it all......
Today, I found myself presented with a series of opportunities to extend kindness, and it was a rewarding experience. While I was at Love's, filling my tank with fuel, I couldn't help but notice an older gentleman hunched over on the fuel island, his car hood up. He appeared to be in distress, a look of worry etched across his face. After I finished fueling, I approached him and offered to jump-start his vehicle. The relief in his eyes was palpable, as though I had just lifted a heavy weight off his shoulders.
As we connected the jumper cables, he shared his story, explaining that he had been waiting there for hours, hoping someone would stop to help him. Whether that was an exaggeration or not, it painted a stark picture of the world we live in; a world where small gestures of kindness can sometimes feel rare. The entire process only took a couple of minutes, but it seemed to make a world of difference for him.
Later in the day, I received some heartbreaking news. I've been driving for Uber for nearly two years now, and there's a lovely older couple I've come to know in West Memphis, AR. I used to take them to Walmart on a regular basis. The wife had endured a tragic accident that led to the loss of her lower leg; resulting from a misstep during a rainstorm, compounded by a slow emergency response. They lived in a charming house filled with a dozen or more cats, each one as quirky as the next.
As I passed their usual spot today, I spotted the husband pushing an empty wheelchair to their familiar corner where they often asked for assistance. Confused and concerned, I pulled over and inquired about his wife. With a heavy heart, he informed me that she had passed away after a long battle with cancer. While her illness had been ongoing, the finality of her loss still stung, leaving me with a lingering sense of sorrow.
As the day wore on, I decided to take a detour to visit a few places on my list. I stopped by the Harley-Davidson dealer, Amro Music, and Yarborough Music to submit job applications. There was an air of uncertainty about their potential outcomes, but at least I felt a sense of accomplishment having taken that step.
Afterward, I made my way to Gordon's, where I picked up some pickles and shrimp; items I had been intending to pick up for quite some time. As I headed home, winding around Tillman Ave., my gaze fell upon a young woman I've encountered numerous times over the past year. She stood at the corner, holding her usual spot, hoping for a charitable gesture. Looking down at my apple; the last remnant of my lunch; I rolled down the window and handed it to her. The simple act filled me with warmth as I glanced in the rearview mirror and saw her take a bite, a smile creeping across her face.
With these moments weighing on my mind, I finally arrived home, ready to unwind and reflect, preparing myself for whatever tomorrow may bring.
April 10, 2026
Roll, then not........
The morning started off rough, but the day improved as it went on. Initially, it felt like I was doing a lot of unnecessary driving, covering over 15 miles for what was supposed to be a three-mile trip. However, in the afternoon, I got a double run. First, I drove to Oxford to drop someone off at Firestone, and then I was scheduled to head just south of Jackson to pick someone up and bring them back to Memphis. Unfortunately, a home emergency came up and interrupted that second part of my day. Despite that, I'm grateful that my current position allowed me to drop everything and return home to handle the situation. I'm going to consider that a positive outcome.
It is a bee thing
Oh look, a bee!
Bee Good!......
The morning unfolded in a predictable manner, with the usual hum of daily tasks marking the hours. However, as the clock inched toward afternoon, the tranquility shattered with an unexpected jolt. Just as I was settling into the second phase of my workday, a frantic call from home disrupted my focus. My family breathlessly relayed that a massive swarm of bees had descended upon our house, and they were beginning to infiltrate the interior. After a flurry of calls back and forth, both to my family and to Cooks Pest Control, it became painfully clear that this was no ordinary situation.
Honey bees, while often seen as harmless, are a protected species, and as someone who deeply respects their role in our ecosystem, the thought of eradicating them pained me. Yet, the urgency of the situation weighed heavily on me, especially knowing that at least one family member was severely allergic to stings.
Determined to find a solution, I stopped by Stewart Brothers, a local hardware store, where I spoke with a knowledgeable apiarist. Delving into the fascinating world of swarm behavior, I came to understand the intricate dynamics of these remarkable insects. I subsequently reached out to Terminix, whose representative assured me that they would send someone out in the evening; but as darkness fell, so did my hopes, for no one arrived.
In a stroke of luck, I managed to connect with the assistant of the local bee whisperer, who provided invaluable insights about swarming, especially during this season. With my newfound knowledge, I finally approached my home, and much to my relief, the situation was less dire than I had envisioned. I estimated around 300 bees swirling around the chimney; they were small, underdeveloped, likely drones or scouts, not the aggressive foragers I had feared. According to Vicki, the bee whisperer, the swarm was likely in search of a new dwelling or a resting place for their queen. She advised me on making the house less appealing to them.
As I stood outside, undeterred by my flying visitors, I took a proactive stance, confidently walking into the swarm. Armed with a minty concoction that we typically use for wasps, I sprayed the key areas the bees had shown interest in. Before the sun dipped below the horizon, a calm had settled; the bees seemed to have dispersed, their presence no longer a threat.
To further ease my family's worry, I tackled a more pressing issue; a tattered cat tre that had worn through the ceiling. After removing it, I temporarily patched the hole, though I recognized that deeper repairs were necessary, particularly since two more gaps in the area awaited my attention. With plans to overhaul the entire section, I knew I had my work cut out for me.
Willow had done an exceptional job cleaning the living room, where a thick residue of pest spray had coated surfaces, turning the space into a makeshift war zone. Despite the chaos, it could have been much worse. By the end of the night, the family members were calm, the bees had moved on, and I even found the time to gather some vibrant peppers and jalapenos for my planting boxes.
My day may have been truncated, and I anticipated long-term consequences, but I felt a resilient spark of optimism; I believed recovery was within reach. This experience had expanded my understanding of bees immensely. Exhausted, I now looked forward to pushing through the next couple of days before relishing a much-deserved break. I had significant projects lined up for Monday: clearing the pool, planting my flowers, and sealing the side of the house to prevent a repeat incident; alongside my regular responsibilities.
Normalcy...
..What is that?....
April 11, 2026
No drama, no excitement........
Was this really what I was looking for? The riders were normal and courteous. The other drivers on the road were the same. There was no drama and no excitement and it was just another day. I know that things have been a little hectic lately, but we have gone from feast to famine. I'm not sure if I want this to hold or not.
Just another day......
Today, the primary challenge I faced was a profound lack of sleep, a lingering consequence of the chaotic events from yesterday. Despite the fatigue tugging at my eyelids, I managed to shake off the exhaustion and felt surprisingly alert and spirited, as if I had a renewed sense of energy. I tackled my morning tasks with a sense of purpose, breezing through them with ease and managing to hit the road right on schedule.
The workday itself unfolded without any significant incidents, the hours passing in a predictable rhythm. By the time I returned home in the evening, the comforting aroma of a hearty meal welcomed me. It was the perfect way to unwind, as I settled down to enjoy my dinner while mentally preparing for my last workday of the week. Reflecting on the day, while it was fairly uneventful, it had a certain steadiness that I appreciated.
However, my only regret was not seizing the chance to work on my novel. With just a few more chapters left to proofread, I felt the excitement building as I approached the brink of publication; a thrilling yet daunting challenge that awaited me.
April 12, 2026
Remember yesterday? Yeah, me either........
Yesterday unfolded like any other ordinary day, an unremarkable routine that I should have known better than to capture in writing. It's almost as if the universe has a knack for responding to our proclamations in unexpected ways. This morning, as I slid into the driver's seat of my car, a nagging little warning light caught my eye; the low air indicator flashing ominously on one of my tires. Fortunately, a quick inspection revealed that it was one of the tires I had been meaning to replace anyway.
What I thought would be a minor inconvenience ultimately derailed my entire day; and, in a way, my week; cutting short my plans by the time I glanced at the clock, which barely approached 10:00 AM.
Adding to the chaos, I've effectively lost around 10 hours of my week thanks to these unforeseen troubles, particularly those pesky buzzing interruptions. Without a record of my time lost, I can't quite ascertain the financial toll this week has taken, but I'm determined to uncover the extent of it tomorrow. Despite feeling the weight of my misfortune, I managed to navigate my way to Firestone. There, I spent four grueling hours waiting while they replaced my tires and tended to a few other repairs that I'll discuss in detail later. With the week drawing to a close, I realize it's time to turn the page and move forward.
Lead into gold......
As the workweek drew to a close, I found a way to transform what initially felt like a setback into an unexpected advantage. My afternoon at Firestone turned out to be more productive than I anticipated. I had the opportunity to meet with the new manager, Sal, who welcomed me with a reassuring demeanor. Together, we meticulously reviewed everything that had gone wrong with my car over the past month, from strange noises to odd vibrations.
Sal's expertise shone through as he promptly arranged for two brand-new tires to be fitted. In a stroke of good fortune, he utilized a series of discounts to include an oil change at no extra cost, which was a relief. He also ensured that the technicians conducted thorough inspections on all the major systems of the car, leaving no stone unturned. With the exception of the rear bushings, which still need attention, everything else was in perfect working order. I appreciated Sal's dedication as he had the technicians take my car back onto the alignment rack three times, fine-tuning it until it was nothing short of flawless.
With my car finally in good shape, I wrapped up my business just as the workday ended and headed home, feeling a blend of exhaustion and frustration from having lost yet another half day. However, I dove headfirst into my list of tasks for my day off tomorrow, determined to make the most of it.
First on my list was sealing the chimney to prevent future bee invasions, and with the proper materials in hand, I quickly set to work. The ladder was already propped up, so I seized the opportunity to climb onto the garage roof, where a sizeable wasp nest had taken residence. With my extension pole in hand, I skillfully handled the unwelcome occupants that I had previously been unable to reach. Completing these two significant projects felt gratifying, as they were both hanging over me like a cloud.
Though my to-do list still loomed large in front of me, it felt much more manageable now. I ended the day by settling in with the next season of *American Horror Story: Freak Show*, which intrigued me right from the start; I was eager to see how the story would unfold. Despite being distracted by a nagging toothache, likely a symptom of my sinuses acting up, I found solace in the world of television as the evening wore on.

Time to get ready........
Today, being Monday, marked my designated day off, a much-needed breather in my busy schedule. However, I transform this day into a preparation day, utilizing it to set myself up for success for the week ahead.
This morning, I embarked on a thorough check of my car, ensuring that all systems were functioning seamlessly. I carefully inspected everything from the tire pressure to the fuel level, making sure I was ready for the busy days on the road. Afterward, I settled down with a cup of coffee to immerse myself in the latest memos and newsletters from Uber, absorbing important updates and insights that would aid my performance.
With this information in hand, I devised a strategic plan to efficiently manage both Uber and Lyft, ensuring that I could keep both accounts active and optimize my earning potential. It was a productive day, balancing preparation with relaxation, gearing up for the challenges ahead.
Zip it and rip it......
I felt an overwhelming weariness settle over me, a familiar weight that stemmed from the tumultuous week I had just endured, filled with countless complications and setbacks. Today, with a rare day off beckoning me, I could have easily succumbed to the lure of relaxation, sinking into a comfortable spot to recharge. However, that inclination didn't quite align with my disposition. Instead, I confronted the day armed with a lengthy and demanding list of tasks that awaited my attention.
This wasn't my first encounter with such an extensive to-do list, but it marked the first time I was able to tackle so much in a single day. I rolled up my sleeves and got to work, patching unsightly holes in the walls of my home, each filled crevice restoring a sense of order to my surroundings. I then shifted my focus outdoors, where the pool was in dire need of some TLC; I scrubbed and skimmed, watching as the shimmering water began to regain its inviting glow, even if it is not quite there yet.
The final chapter of my productive day involved nurturing the earth itself. I knelt in the warm soil, planting tomato and pepper seeds, envisioning the vibrant harvest they would eventually yield. By the time the sun began to set, bathing the sky in hues of orange and pink, I found myself utterly spent yet profoundly satisfied. The exhaustion coursing through my body was a reminder of the labor I had undertaken, but it was accompanied by an unmistakable sense of accomplishment that wrapped around me like a comforting blanket.

Smooth, for a change........
The first day back on the road unfolded with an unexpected sense of ease. As dawn broke, I commenced my morning with a series of lucrative rides that had me feeling optimistic. After completing those high-paying runs, I found myself just outside West Memphis, Arkansas, when an unusual request flashed across my screen.
It was a call for help from a stranded truck driver whose vehicle had broken down. The situation required me to make an impromptu trip from Heath, Arkansas, to the Memphis Volvo dealership, and then return the driver to their stranded truck. Although this detour took me well beyond my usual operating area, it proved to be a rewarding experience.
Fortunately, after wrapping up the unexpected trip, I was able to secure a ride back into the city. Lately, I've been deliberately avoiding the temptation to track my earnings, and it seems that strategy is serving me well. Still, if I were to tally them up, I have no doubt I would be pleasantly surprised. As the day drew to a close, I finished my shift punctually and headed home, satisfied with how everything had turned out.
All good, it's all good......
Despite grappling with a nagging toothache and some unpleasant side effects from my medication, the day began on a surprisingly positive note. I had prepared my sandwich for lunch the night before, which spared me valuable time in the morning rush. My morning routine flowed seamlessly, and I was able to hit the road right on schedule.
When I returned home in the afternoon, I quickly set down my belongings and dove into the task of cleaning the cars. I dedicated my energy to detailing both vehicles, thoroughly washing them until they gleamed, though I opted not to wax them this time. This accomplishment exceeded my expectations for the day!
For dinner, I indulged in a frozen pizza, its warm, cheesy goodness truly satisfying my hunger. Afterward, I settled into my chair to peruse the Daily News and scroll through social media. In hindsight, that might have been a misstep; perhaps it would have been wiser to let sleeping dogs lie. The state of the world seems increasingly chaotic, as if clowns were indeed steering the circus. I won't delve too deeply into specifics, as I'm sure you're keeping up with the headlines, but it's clear that significant changes are on the horizon, albeit at a glacial pace.

Pushing through again........
As the week drags on, I find myself caught in the midweek slump, grappling with an unshakeable fatigue as I navigate through these busy days. While it feels like I'm inching closer to the beginning of the workweek than the much-anticipated weekend, I can't really alter my course now. The anxiety surrounding soaring gas prices is palpable; I can sense it in the conversations with my riders. Many have expressed their concerns about potential hikes in fares, echoing a collective worry that seems to be quiet yet simmering beneath the surface.
Although I haven't come across any official statements yet, there are whispers in the air that rideshare companies might be contemplating passing these rising costs on to consumers, further complicating our already pricey industry. With the shortage of drivers, this situation becomes even more precarious. Rideshare services are already teetering on the edge of affordability, and I can't help but wonder how these changes will ripple through the industry. It's clear that something needs to shift; the current model simply cannot continue as it is without some significant alterations.
Good eats......
This morning, I woke up a bit later than I intended, but managed to shake off the lingering drowsiness without much trouble. Recently, getting out of bed has felt like a daunting task, as I've grown fond of the warmth and coziness of my blankets. But today had a different vibe. I smoothly glided through my morning routine, feeling surprisingly refreshed, and I hit the road on time with a sense of accomplishment.
When I returned home, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the idea of cooking dinner didn't appeal to anyone. After a brief discussion, we decided to indulge in takeout from Tokyo Grill. Initially, I hesitated; stepping away from my culinary comfort zone of Asian Star, my reliable favorite, felt risky. However, driven by curiosity, I opted for the beef-wrapped scallions, stepping outside my usual preferences. What arrived was a generous bento box that turned out to be a delightful surprise. It was beautifully arranged, showcasing six pieces of sushi, two crispy fried shrimp, two perfectly steamed dumplings, and a hearty serving of fried rice. Each bite was a celebration of flavors that left me satisfied and content at the end of the day.
After dinner, I settled into my comfortable nook and devoted some time to working on my novel, immersing myself in the world I was creating. That was how my day unfolded; simple but fulfilling.
April 16, 2026
Status quo? Really?........
Work has been quite chaotic lately, filled with unexpected problems that I'm not used to. However, aside from the notable gaps between rides today, it turned out to be a very smooth day overall. I've continued my new habit of not checking my funding until the end of the week, which helps keep my mind clear. I'm confident in my ability to gauge my performance, and I believe I'm on track for this week.
Throughout the day, I encountered no major issues, except for one rider who was having an intense argument with her significant other over the phone. She was loudly expressing her frustration, threatening to choose someone randomly and *do them* in the middle of the street if he didn't stop talking. It was quite animated, and she was visibly angry. I find it amusing how people often forget that the driver is listening. When she exited the car to go get her nails done, she was still shouting at the top of her lungs.
Old Friends......
Although this experience occurred in a work setting, it holds enough humor and personal significance that I feel it belongs in my personal memoirs. In the early 1980s, while serving in the military, I found myself stationed in the quaint German town of Giessen. In my downtime, I frequented a couple of establishments that became second homes to me: The Pik Dame and The Mot.
The Pik Dame was a legalized house of prostitution, a place where young men like myself would gather around the bar, mingling with a wide array of professional women; all charming and eager to strike up a conversation. I was first introduced to this unique establishment by my friend Scott, who was quite taken with the scene. After a challenging relationship with my friend Jennifer, my interest in the ladies of the night was non-existent. Still, I didn't mind occupying a barstool and observing the lively antics of my fellow soldiers alongside the local clientele.
There were three young women who would often approach me, sweet-talking me into buying them Piccolos, which were a sort of drink integral to the establishment's economy. The ritual was quite predictable: if you bought a lady three Piccolos in succession, she would hint at ordering a larger bottle. Once the larger bottle arrived, a friend of theirs would join you with three glasses, marking the transition to a more intimate setting. I could almost set my watch by the unfolding sequence of events.
The trio of women who captivated me included Gertrude, Maria, and Heike. Gertrude, a robust blonde with an effervescent personality, truly embodied a quintessential German upbringing; flirtatious, generous in spirit, and large in presence. Maria, with her more elusive personality, would engage in conversation with me, though she wasn't as openly warm. However, Heike always made it a point to approach me with a bright smile. Despite her charm, I kept my distance; I was almost certain she appeared to be no older than 15. My instincts told me her playful chatter masked a youthful innocence, and I never could coax an admission of her age from her.
As I whiled away the hours at The Pik Dame, Scott pursued his interests, and afterward, we would transition to The Mot; a lively local bar. It was here that I truly felt at home, surrounded by friends, including Scott and others from my unit. One particular friend who stood out was Claudia, an adorable girl barely four feet tall who, despite her youthful look, was indeed 22, as verified by her identification.
Language barriers created a unique dynamic; Claudia spoke no English, while my German vocabulary felt clumsy at best. The local nightlife was also enlivened by a regular barfly named Bjorn. He was a colorful character who always sought the spotlight, charming everyone in the bar, myself included.
Today, I crossed paths with Bjorn again, although I didn't recognize him initially. His thick accent was a clear giveaway of his German roots. As we chatted and I inquired about his origins, the conversation naturally drifted back to our fond memories of The Mot and our shared camaraderie. In a span of thirty minutes spent in my car, we gleefully caught up, revealing bits of our lives since those carefree evenings. I learned that a fellow soldier, Kevin, had gone AWOL and remained somewhere in Giessen, and Bjorn still kept in contact with multiple familiar faces from our bar escapades. It made for a delightful conversation, and as he took my contact information, I couldn't shake the feeling that I might never hear from him again.
Upon returning home that evening, feeling inspired, I decided to whip up a meal, opting for something delectable: a seafood stew, lovingly served over flaky pastry shells. The aromas filled my kitchen, transporting me back to simpler times.
A hot day...
..I dislike hot days....
April 17, 2026
Easy? Hmmm........
Today turned out to be surprisingly manageable. I couldn't help but notice the distinct differences in each of the rides; each one brought its own unique challenges and experiences. To my delight, I found myself with about 90 minutes of precious downtime, which felt like a rare luxury amidst the usual hustle. Reflecting on the day, I believe I performed quite well overall.
The only significant hiccup was my fuel consumption; I used quite a bit more than I had anticipated. However, despite that, I'm feeling optimistic about how the week is unfolding. As the weekend approaches, I find comfort in the fact that I'm just one day closer to my much-anticipated day off. Additionally, I've received several responses to my job applications, which I'll need to tackle in the coming days. It feels like a busy yet promising time ahead.
Routine......
I have settled into a groove and established a routine, so for now, things have calmed down. I methodically went through my morning and was able to check everything off my list, even making some progress on my novel.
When I got home in the afternoon, I vacuumed the bottom of the pool and skimmed the surface. There's a significant algae ring in the center of the pool, but I suspect I'll need to get in the water to handle that. The next step will be to drain and clean the filter balls before repeating the process.
While I was busy with the pool, Laura was in the kitchen cooking spaghetti with meat sauce and fish in foil. We worked in perfect harmony today to get everything done. As we head into the weekend, she is looking forward to an enjoyable day off, while I will push through the next two days to shore up our funds and plan for my own day off. I ended the day by relaxing and going to bed early.
Well, isn't that special?...
..No, seriously....

Bump, bump, CRUNCH........
There are moments that stretch into eternity, and today felt like one of those days. The clouds filled the sky as I navigated a winding road near Millington, its subdued light and drizzle glinting off the hood of my car. As I rounded a curve, I hit a jarring bump, and in that instant, a horrifying sound erupted from the back of my vehicle, reminiscent of metal tearing apart. My heart raced as the car began to sway ominously from side to side. With a surge of adrenaline, I managed to regain control, but the wave of panic that washed over me was palpable. It dawned on me that the rear end of my car had likely succumbed to the wear and tear I'd neglected for far too long; the bushings on the rear axle had been crying out for replacement.
Determined to remedy the situation, I made my way home, stopping at the local Kia dealership. There, I sought the expertise of Ben. Unfortunately, I was met with disappointment when he informed me that they couldn't address the issue until Monday morning. Feeling the frustration rise, I continued on to Firestone, hoping for better luck. I spoke with Sal, who unfortunately echoed Ben's sentiments; due to the necessary parts being dependent on the dealership, there was nothing he could do until Monday either.
Left grounded and anxious, I contemplated my situation, especially as I faced the unfortunate reality of being approximately $250 short of my anticipated target for the week. Although I had managed to stay ahead up to this point, the tension of the day coupled with this unexpected setback weighed heavily on my mind. It wasn't an ideal scenario, that was for sure, but I resolved to navigate through the challenging days ahead.
Do not sit and stew......
With the frustrations of my broken car weighing on my mind, I dove into the job boards. I submitted over 150 applications in one day. At 60 years old, I find myself wavering about what to do with my life. It makes me wonder whether that reflects questionable intelligence or a unique perspective on life. Only time will tell.
I spent the day filling out applications and planning for an unexpected day off tomorrow. While I have plenty of things I could accomplish, I'd rather be out earning a living. I'm trying to stay calm, but I'm not sure if I will succeed in that endeavor.
April 19, 2026
Down, but not out........
Today was a day dedicated entirely to job applications, a task that required both patience and perseverance. I started my morning with a determined mindset, opting to fill out applications manually rather than relying on the convenient auto-apply feature. Although the process felt tedious; each entry demanding careful attention to detail; I held onto the belief that this effort could yield rewarding opportunities in the future.
After completing several applications, I decided to expand my search and visited the Walmart website. I meticulously browsed through their listings, handpicking 15 positions located within a 15-mile radius of my home. The roles varied widely, capturing my interest from stocking shelves to asset protection, and even a potential position as a general manager. Each listing seemed promising, adding to my enthusiasm for the day.
However, my excitement quickly turned to frustration when I encountered a series of technical hurdles while trying to upload my resume. The progress bar would inch along, advancing three-quarters of the way, only to be met with an abrupt failure that halted my efforts. I attempted to troubleshoot the issue by reformatting my resume into different file types, each time hopeful that this would resolve the problem. Unfortunately, none of my attempts yielded positive results.
Despite feeling a swell of resignation creeping in, I clung to a sense of determination and opted to complete the manual application process. This painstaking effort consumed nearly three hours of my day, and just when I thought I had reached the finish line, I was met with an error page upon clicking *submit.* My heart sank, but I resolved to try again, only to be confronted with the same vexing problem.
As the day drew to a close, I managed to find a workaround that allowed me to save my information, even though submission was still beyond my reach. I left the day with a flicker of hope that the issues were on their end and that they would be resolved soon, allowing me to finally present my application.
Do something dammit! Do something......
Feeling sidelined by ongoing car troubles and a touch of frustration with the cumbersome application process, I was determined not to let those challenges drag me down. Instead, I opted to channel my energy into some productive tasks that had been waiting for my attention.
To start, I ventured out to the front yard, where the grass had become lush and unruly. Armed with my trusty lawnmower, I took to the overgrown blades, and soon enough, the yard was transformed into a neat, green carpet that welcomed the eye. Next, my focus shifted to the neglected pool. After deftly cleaning the filter balls, I was confronted by a stubborn algae ring stubbornly nestled in the pool's center. With some elbow grease and determination, I scrubbed it away, achieving a significant improvement in its appearance. I could tell that I would likely need to clean the filter a couple more times in the near future, but for now, the water sparkled much more invitingly.
In addition to tackling my home improvement projects, I successfully completed my CISSP course. While the hefty cost of the security exam and the limited benefits it would yield in my current job prevented me from pursuing certification, the knowledge I gained was invaluable and rewarding in itself. Eager to continue my educational journey, I dove right into my next venture: Reiki levels I, II, and III. As I delved into the initial segment, which provided insightful explanations of energy work, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that certification would be awarded at the end of the course; an enticing prospect, even if I didn't intend to pursue a career in it.
With these accomplishments behind me, I shifted gears to the kitchen, where I decided to prepare some mouthwatering spare ribs using the slow-cook method. After six hours of patience and anticipation, the rich aroma wafting through the house indicated that they had turned out absolutely delicious.
Once the ribs were off the heat, I had a burst of energy to tackle some more organizing in the garage. I spent some time playing my guitar and saxophone, losing myself in the melodies as the sun dipped lower in the sky. Although the garbage pad still remained a daunting task waiting for two more bags of concrete to be picked up, I felt accomplished with the progress I had made.
As the evening approached, I received a much-anticipated delivery from Amazon: the silicone tape I needed to finally address the leaky drainage pipe in the ceiling. With a sense of satisfaction washing over me, I completed that repair as the final task of my day. Afterwards, I settled down to relax, feeling fulfilled with my productive endeavors and grateful that I hadn't let the day slip away in frustration.
Biding time...
..and not loving it!....

The wheels in motion........
Today's journey began with a visit to the Kia dealership, where I took my car in for servicing. After that was sorted out, I spent a considerable amount of time reaching out to various local auto repair shops. Each mechanic I spoke with echoed a similar concern: due to a specific part that needed replacement, the repair timeline could range dramatically from 3 to even 30 days. The dealership assured me they have the part in stock, but should I decide to order it through a retail channel, it would entail a lengthy shipping process from California.
As the day unfolded, I got in touch with Ben, who was able to provide me with an update on my car's status. He informed me that it's currently in the shop being worked on, but a snag had emerged concerning a special tool required for the installation of the bushings. While the entire armature could be replaced as an alternative solution, it would come with a hefty price tag of nearly $500. Thankfully, the dealership is making efforts to borrow the necessary tool, and with a bit of luck, I should receive an update by tomorrow. This would not only save me money but also significantly cut down the waiting time for repairs.
In the meantime, I kept myself occupied by submitting numerous job applications online. Later in the evening, with generous help from Laura, I managed to overcome a frustrating obstacle that had been blocking me from accessing the Walmart application site. With that hurdle now behind me, I eagerly applied for more than 20 positions at Walmart. Now, I find myself hoping that the universe will be generous and kind as I await responses.
Universal energy......
Today was anything but idle as I immersed myself in a whirlwind of projects around my home. With determination fueling my actions, I crossed several tasks off my list, including completing various online applications that demanded my attention. I had initially planned to indulge in the comforting act of baking sub rolls and biscuits. Unfortunately, a crucial oversight, forgetting to add flour to my shopping list, rendered that delightful option futile. Nevertheless, one particular aspect of my day shines brightly, begging for some reflection.
Daily, I carve out time for a series of practices that nourish my mind, body, and spirit. Each morning, I engage in exercising, meditating, and embracing the fluidity of yoga and the grounding movements of Tai Chi. Despite these conscious efforts toward well-being, I find myself grappling with persistent discomfort in my hands, feet, back, and other areas; a nagging reminder of life's irritations that I strive to transcend. After completing my Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification course, my journey led me to explore the healing path of Reiki. This course unfolds in three stages, each designed to deepen my understanding and connection to this ancient practice.
The first level introduces the art of performing Reiki not only for myself but also for others and even extends its gentle touch to animals and plants, fostering a connection with the living world around me. It encompasses everything necessary to evolve into a full practitioner, equipping me with the skills to conduct group sessions while emphasizing the power of collective healing.
I find myself embracing the spiritual dimensions of life wholeheartedly. My experiences have unveiled mysteries that challenge even the most stringent scientific explanations, leaving little room for skepticism. One unexpected revelation has been the swift response of universal energy, which I attribute in part to my unwavering commitment to self-care. Now, as I'm just half an hour away from completing the Level 1 segment of this course, I feel a sense of urgency to apply the techniques I've learned to my daily struggles, particularly the persistent aches and pains that shadow me.
A striking example of this involves the throbbing discomfort I've been feeling in my left forefinger, a sensation reminiscent of a hyperextension injury from years past, akin to the one I endured while skiing. After successfully completing my first Reiki attunement, I confidently applied one of the techniques to my finger and feet. To my astonishment, the pain that had taken residence in my forefinger for months dissipated nearly instantly. The question lingers: was this relief a manifestation of cosmic energy, or simply a psychosomatic effect? The uncertainty intrigues me, yet I feel compelled to weave self-Reiki into the fabric of my daily routine. By tomorrow morning, I will have fully embraced my Level 1 training and look forward to progressing through my attunements. It's an exhilarating journey, and I can only wonder where it might lead me next.
I am annoyed...
..However....

Applications........
With my car still out of commission, today transformed into a marathon of applications. I tackled another batch of 20, and many of them demanded more attention and effort than mere quick submissions. I found myself hopping between various websites, meticulously filling out forms and inputting information, which felt overwhelmingly tedious.
What frustrates me the most is that these applications are frequently assessed by artificial intelligence algorithms, which often miss the finer details that make each applicant unique. Even with my experience in information technology, I can't help but see this as a considerable drawback for society. We often talk about the dangers of becoming too computerized, but I can't shake the feeling that we've already crossed that line.
Pacing the room......
At this point in my journey, I find myself naturally embracing patience, though I'm not actively trying to cultivate it. There's a flicker of uncertainty in me about whether this ease of acceptance should raise any alarms. For now, I've decided to simply ride the waves of life and trust that everything will gradually fall into place.
Earlier today, I had a conversation with Ben at the Kia dealership around midday. His voice carried a hint of frustration as he explained that he is still on the hunt for the elusive tool necessary to address the bushings on the axle. He recounted making four calls, each followed by a wait for responses that seem to stretch into an eternity. I urged him to take decisive action; if he doesn't hear back in an hour, I suggested he move forward with replacing the entire axle assembly. The ongoing cost of keeping my car sidelined is mounting, surpassing the price tag of the more expensive part.
It's challenging to articulate to him just how vital it is for me to have my car back on the road. His demeanor strikes me as neither sympathetic nor empathetic, leaving me to wonder whether he truly belongs in his role at the dealership. This isn't my first rodeo with them, nor my first encounter with Ben, and the experience has me questioning if I'm destined to repeat past frustrations. I feel a pressing urge to voice my concerns to someone in authority, yet I'm hesitating, waiting for the moment when my car is finally returned to me.
I've taken the time to jot all of this down, ensuring that these thoughts don't slip away from me when the matter is finally resolved. Perhaps I'm overthinking, but a part of me believes my feelings are justified.
On a brighter note, as the sun dipped low in the sky, I achieved a significant personal milestone by finishing my Level III (master/teacher) Reiki course and receiving my final attunement. According to the universe, I can proudly claim the title of Reiki master. Legally, this allows me to practice in the state of Tennessee, although, in truth, I have no immediate plans to do so.
Push...
..into the shove....

Face-to-face........
My patience is wearing incredibly thin, though surprisingly not as fast as I had anticipated. This morning, after Laura wrapped up her work and tended to some personal errands, I took the opportunity to borrow her car and head to a crucial face-to-face meeting at the dealership. As I sat there, absorbing their explanations and excuses, I made my stance abundantly clear. Their lack of urgency and tendency to stall for time are behaviors that I find utterly unacceptable.
The axle beam on my vehicle was in dire need of replacement, and to my dismay, I learned that there is only a single part available across the entire country. It was located in Washington state and had been shipped overnight, a glimmer of hope amid my mounting frustration. I explicitly instructed them to notify me as soon as the part arrived. However, as the day drew to a close, I found myself still awaiting that anticipated call. Once the part finally arrives, the expectation is that it will take about four hours to replace; in a well-run professional facility, the car would be elevated, and the old axle would be removed within that timeframe. Yet, here we are, still waiting.
Regrettably, this isn't the first time I've encountered such sluggishness at this particular facility. They demonstrate a troubling lack of urgency that leads me to question their professionalism. It's concerning because this could negatively reflect on the automotive industry as a whole. Not too long ago, we encountered similar issues with the Chevy dealership located next door. While I don't want to trivialize the situation, I find it hard to remain light-hearted when I am forking over $190.00 per hour in shop fees. At that rate, I think it's reasonable to expect a certain level of priority and quality service.
Filling time......
As I reflect on my current situation, it feels as though I'm merely passing the time. I've arrived at a point where meaningful engagement seems elusive, and instead, I'm just biding my time until a resolution presents itself. Throughout this period of uncertainty, I've diligently continued with my ongoing job applications, and I'm finally starting to receive a trickle of responses.
Next week, if the issue with my car remains unresolved; which would be an absolute nightmare; I will find myself in the position of needing to rent a vehicle to fulfill my commitments to Randstad. Fortunately, I have a promising opportunity lined up for the first week in May with DHL, which provides a glimmer of hope amid this turmoil. In addition, I've secured an interview for a terminal manager position in Millington on Monday, and I'm actively pursuing several other potential job openings.
The possibility of joining Truck Movers has caught my interest, although I'm still waiting on details regarding their pay rate. I've encountered a mixed bag of reviews about the company, which only adds to my curiosity, and I plan to reach out to them for further clarification. Additionally, I'm awaiting news from Dropoff, a company specializing in HVAC parts delivery, which could offer another avenue for employment.
This evening, Laura and I ventured out to the nearby Goodwill bin store, buzzing with activity. It's quite astonishing to see how many customers flock to these thrift stores, perhaps a testament to the tough economic times we're all navigating, with many people looking to stretch their dollars as far as they can. Laura managed to find a few treasures, while I ended up purchasing two pairs of rather unique pants along with some yoga blocks.
Once home, I decided to try on the pants and was pleasantly surprised by how cool they looked, despite my uncertainty about where I might actually wear them. One pair is reminiscent of furry yoga pants that seem perfect for lounging, while the other has a striking vintage flair, resembling the fashionable pleather styles of the 1970s.
Almost at the breaking point...
..almost....
April 23, 2026
More games........
I'm growing increasingly frustrated with the constant runaround I'm receiving from the Kia dealership. I've tried my best to remain patient throughout this ordeal, but I'm reaching a breaking point. This morning, I called the dealership and spoke with Ben, who informed me that he had no updates to share. All he could tell me was that the part I'm waiting for was still en route from Washington state. He assured me that he would call back after lunch with more details, but as the hours passed, I was left waiting for a call that never came.
This lack of communication has pushed me to the edge, and I've decided that tomorrow morning, I will make a trip to the dealership to confront this issue head-on. I'm unsure if my in-person visit will make any difference, but I'm tired of being left in the dark. In an effort to expedite the process, I also filed a formal complaint with Kia's national hotline, and Laura took the initiative to send another strongly-worded letter advocating on my behalf. At this point, I'm uncertain whether these actions will lead to any resolution, but I feel compelled to do something about this frustrating situation.
Spinning wheels......
This week has veered off the path I had imagined, twisting into a series of frustrating events that seem beyond my control. It feels akin to standing outside during a thunderstorm, shouting at the dark clouds, hoping they'll respond to my pleas. Most of my day was consumed with filling out a mountain of applications, each one more tedious than the last. Amidst this bureaucratic drudgery, I found a small pocket of time to delve into my novel, letting my imagination take flight for a brief respite. Tomorrow, I've resolved to face the dealership head-on, ready to address the issues that have been nagging at me. Despite the chaos, I'm managing to hold onto a sense of calm, though frustration simmers just beneath the surface, waiting to surge forth.
The tides have turned...
..perhaps....

The mad kitty........
Today, I finally reached a tipping point in my patience. After not hearing back from Ben yesterday regarding the status of my vehicle, I decided I couldn't wait any longer. As soon as a car became available at home, I made my way to the dealership, feeling both determined and frustrated.
Upon my arrival, I was greeted by a bustling atmosphere typical of a car dealership, with customers discussing vehicles, sales representatives showing off the latest models, and the hum of service mechanics at work. I settled in, waiting for Ben to become available. When he finally approached me, I could sense he was prepared with a set of excuses for the delays I had been experiencing.
While I wouldn't characterize my reaction as a loss of temper because I refrained from screaming or yelling, I did raise my voice to express the mounting frustration I felt. I articulated my deep dissatisfaction with his lack of communication and the subpar service I had received. In that moment, I confronted him about what I perceived as dishonesty, noting that sometimes he seems to withhold information, leading me to wonder if his inaccuracies stemmed from misinformation he was being provided.
The conversation took a turn for the worse when Ben insisted that a professional corporation like Kia was incapable of tracking a shipment. I found this claim to be patently incorrect and took the opportunity to correct him, feeling empowered to advocate for myself. I refused to let the issue linger in uncertainty any longer.
Feeling the conversation was going nowhere, I ended it abruptly and made my way to the front office. There, I encountered Josh from the sales team, a friendly face who listened to my concerns. He promptly brought in Angela, the service manager, who seemed genuinely interested in helping me. I spent around ten minutes detailing the entire situation, laying out the timeline and the issues I had faced. It was somewhat reassuring to hear her acknowledge that I wasn't the first customer to raise similar complaints.
Angela asked me to grant her 45 minutes to gather all pertinent information. I stepped away from the dealership, opting to head back home, hoping that this time I would receive clear, timely updates.
To my surprise, about an hour later, one of Angela's assistants reached out with a follow-up call. The assistant reassured me that Angela was still actively working on my issue and had not forgotten about me. Just an hour after that call, my phone rang again; this time it was Angela herself. She provided me with a detailed update on the situation. She explained that the part I was waiting for was coming from New Jersey instead of Washington State, which I hadn't expected. Additionally, she informed me that due to the shipping schedule, the part wouldn't arrive until Tuesday, as the courier services do not operate on Mondays.
In a pleasant turn of events, Angela assured me that the technician had been instructed to prioritize my vehicle the moment the part arrived, which gave me a glimmer of hope.
Although I'm still not entirely satisfied with the situation, I do feel that Angela's proactive approach has alleviated some of my concerns. I appreciate the clearer communication and commitment to service. Now, I suppose I will have to wait and see what next week brings.
What to do now......
Resolving the situation with the dealership first thing in the morning opened up the rest of my day, but I found it surprisingly difficult to maintain my productivity. With the freedom to choose how to spend my hours, I navigated through my options, and the day ultimately turned out to be quite fruitful. I received two important calls from Walmart; one from the Hickory Hill store regarding an asset protection agent position and the other from the Collierville store about an online grocery processor role. After careful consideration, I decided to go ahead with the interview for the asset protection position scheduled for Monday, while I chose to decline the opportunity at the Collierville store.
Although I could have pursued both interviews, I felt a strong hesitation about the Collierville location. I had a brief stint working there two years ago, and the experience was less than ideal; chaos seemed to reign supreme. A couple of visits since then confirmed that not much had improved. Just two weeks ago, while taking a break from my Uber driving, I witnessed the online grocery pickup area firsthand, and it looked like something straight out of *The Wizard of Oz* after a tornado had passed through. While I generally thrive in bustling environments, I just don't think this particular store is where I belong. I guess the future will reveal more about my choices.
Additionally, I received an intriguing invitation from Gameday Men's Health, offering a free consultation and lab work centered on issues related to aging in men. I'm fully aware that this might be more of a sales pitch than a genuine offer, but coincidentally, some lab work I need done this week isn't covered by my insurance, and it overlaps with tests that Gameday conducts. I decided to schedule that consultation for Monday as well.
Tomorrow morning, my wife and I will head out to rent a car to make my mobility easier for the upcoming week. This added expense weighs on my mind, but given everything on my agenda; including the Walmart interview, an interview with a trucking company in Millington, and multiple doctor's visits; it feels like a more practical choice than relying on Uber. I anticipate getting my own car back by Tuesday; however, I know I'll need to dive right back into things to compensate for the 21-day loss of income looming ahead. The uncertainty of how I'm going to recover that lost income is daunting, yet I'm resolute in giving it my best effort.
I wrapped up the day by finally indulging in the recent horror film *M3GAN*. I found it to be an engaging watch. Although the plot, storyline, and outcome were quite predictable, the film was crafted in a way that kept me entertained throughout.
A day without rain...
..but raining....

Preparations........
The world has come full circle, and I find myself in a state of preparation, ready to embrace what lies ahead. This morning, with the sun barely rising, I sat at my desk, sipping on a steaming cup of coffee while diligently filling out multiple questionnaires for job applications. The feel of the paper under my fingers and the click of the keyboard kept me focused as I meticulously answered questions about my skills and aspirations.
Later, I headed out to pick up the rental car, a crucial step in my plans for next week. It's a bittersweet feeling, knowing that once I have the car back on Tuesday, I will need to hit the ground running, diving headfirst into the whirlwind of job hunting and interviews. I can almost feel the anticipation simmering beneath the surface. With a stroke of luck, I hope to be gainfully employed in a full-time position by then.
My sights are set on the asset protection agent role at Walmart, a position that feels just right for me. However, I have several other potential opportunities lined up, each with its own set of possibilities. I can sense that things are about to become quite intense, and I'm ready to rise to the challenge.
Grounding, using real ground......
After we picked up the rental car, I felt the weight of exhaustion pull me into a short but refreshing nap. Once I woke, the day's possibilities swirled around in my mind like a colorful whirlwind, but ultimately, a clear path emerged. I resumed my gardening, joyfully digging my hands into the rich, dark earth, feeling its coolness against my skin as I lovingly planted the last of my chosen items. The house was blissfully quiet; the ladies had ventured out for an afternoon of music at the Orpheum, granting me the perfect opportunity to savor my solitude.
As the sun shone warmly through the window, I grabbed my saxophone and guitar; my trusted companions in creativity; and poured my heart into playful melodies that filled the space around me. Afterward, I moved into the calming routines of tai chi and yoga, letting the gentle flow of movements ground me while I tapped into my newfound skill in Reiki. The air was thick with tranquility and purpose, making the day feel fulfilling in its own right. Yet, as evening approached, I couldn't shake off a restless energy stirring within me, hinting there was still more to explore and create.

Suit, resume, good to go........
I spent the day getting ready for tomorrow. I took out my black suit, found my boots, and made sure they were polished. I have an interview scheduled for tomorrow morning, followed by a second interview that I'm not as excited about. I organized everything for the upcoming week before moving on to enjoy a personal day.
No drive, no will, just a bump......
I began my day with a sense of purpose, tackling my work responsibilities first thing in the morning. This allowed the remainder of my day to be mine, a precious stretch of time to explore my creative passions. However, despite my intentions, little of what I accomplished felt meaningful or fulfilling. My greatest disappointment was that I had finally set my heart on completing an oil painting; a vision that had danced in my mind for days. I meticulously gathered my arsenal of artistic tools: brushes of various sizes, vibrant tubes of paint, and a pristine canvas eagerly awaiting a splash of color. Yet, as I reached for my black gesso, my heart sank; it was empty. Without that essential black background, my painting dreams were dashed.
Determined to find a solution, I hopped on Amazon, only to be met with limited selections at exorbitant prices. In a moment of practicality, I opted instead to add a set of black canvases to my wish list, promising myself they'd climb to the top of my priorities once I was back in a productive groove.
Feeling the weight of disappointment, I decided to lift my spirits with a brisk half-hour stroll through the serene Nesbit Park, just around the corner. As I meandered through the wooded paths, something unexpected unfolded: I found myself disoriented among the trees, blissfully distracted by the enchanting scenery. While I initially felt a twinge of anxiety about being lost, I reassured myself; the park was small, and the surrounding neighborhood was familiar territory. I figured that if I simply walked in a straight line, I'd eventually find my way back to solid ground.
As I wandered, I caught sight of the water tower rising against the skyline and felt a surge of recognition. I may have been lost, but I wasn't alone. I encountered two remarkable figures during my exploration that added a dash of whimsy to my day. The first was a man prancing through the underbrush, clad in whimsical goat leggings, his fingers dancing over a pan flute, creating melodies that floated through the air like leaves in the breeze. He embodied the spirit of a Satyr, perhaps on a quest for elusive forest nymphs.
The second character was a vision of enchantment herself; a young woman who seemed to embody the very essence of a forest nymph. Dressed in simple peasant attire with a crown of wildflowers woven in her hair, she flitted about, radiating a natural, carefree energy. Though I did not strike up a conversation with either of them, I guessed they were engaged in live-action role play, or LARPing, transforming the woods into their own magical realm.
Amusingly, my main thought through this delightful encounter was how refreshing it was to see people immersing themselves in nature rather than being tethered to screens. Good for them! What started as a brief half-hour hike unraveled into an adventurous two-and-a-half-hour escapade. In the end, I returned home not just unscathed but invigorated. My spirits lifted, I embraced the rest of the day, strumming my guitar and dabbling in various home projects, relishing the satisfaction of creation.
Tomorrow, I anticipate a return to my routine, and I can feel it in my bones: when the levee breaks, it's going to unleash a flood of productivity and inspiration.
Back at it...
..the baby roll....

Interview, interview, wait........
The first interview at the neighborhood Walmart on Hickory Hill seemed to go well. It was very short, but I think it went okay. The second interview was supposed to take place in Millington. However, when I called to confirm my arrival, I was informed that my interviewer was on Lamar Avenue dealing with a disabled truck. He told me he would meet me at the neighborhood Walmart.
During that meeting, I was unimpressed with both the pay rate and the interviewer. If Walmart offers me the position, I will accept it; the trucking company is a definite no-go.
Ben contacted me twice throughout the day to update me that the part had not arrived. This level of communication is much better than what I've experienced in the past. I didn't mention to him that I was already aware the part couldn't be delivered on Mondays, but it is expected to arrive tomorrow. With a bit of luck, I should be back in action by tomorrow afternoon.
Getting things done......
I approached today with the understanding that it would likely be my last day of freedom before returning to my work routine. My car is scheduled to be ready for pickup tomorrow, which means I'll be back on the road, ready to tackle whatever responsibilities await me. To make the most of this time, I reviewed my to-do list and took on a few lingering tasks that had been weighing on my mind, aiming to find closure before diving back into the workweek.
On a personal note, this past year marked a significant milestone as I celebrated my 60th birthday. As is often the case with this age, I've been grappling with various physical changes; my energy levels have dipped noticeably, I've experienced a decline in muscle mass, and my testosterone levels have seen a substantial drop. While these changes are quite common, I decided to take proactive steps regarding my health. I received a complimentary consultation from a local men's clinic, which I thought would be worth exploring.
The initial interview I had at *Gameday*, the men's clinic, left a positive impression on me. The staff were friendly and professional, and rather than overwhelming me with high-pressure sales tactics, they presented their services in a straightforward manner. After discussing my health history and undergoing several preliminary tests, I learned that I am generally in good health. It was refreshing to see that, based on my interview and the tests, none of the services they offered were deemed essential for my wellbeing. While some could potentially enhance my lifestyle, they made it clear that these were completely optional. I appreciated their transparency and felt no pressure to commit to any high-priced options, which is often the case in medical environments.
Following my visit to the men's clinic, I made a quick stop at Walmart to pick up some items from my shopping list. I wanted to make sure I was prepared for the week ahead before heading over to my doctor's office. Once there, I met with the office manager, who helped me update my medication to ensure it aligned with my upcoming visits. With all of those errands complete, I returned home, eager to spend the afternoon immersed in my writing. I dedicated some solid time to progressing my novel, enjoyed a delightful session with my virtual reality system, and took a moment to unwind in anticipation of what the next day might bring.
In the evening, I had a wonderful time with Laura as we collaborated in the kitchen to prepare meals for the week. She worked her magic on a rich Pollo de Creme, while I took the lead in crafting a creamy linguine Alfredo with succulent shrimp and a hint of lemon. Both dishes emerged beautifully from our efforts, and knowing we had meals ready for the week ahead felt like a small victory. After dinner, I capped off my day with an invigorating cardio session on the VR system, pushing myself a little harder before settling down to prepare for bed.
As night fell, I sensed a storm brewing on the horizon; both in terms of the weather and within my own mind. Severe thunderstorms were forecasted for the area, and coupled with my preparations for the transition back to work, I had a strong feeling that things were about to get back into motion tomorrow.
Another day...
..another yawn....

No work, sigh......
Today, I felt like a bump on a log. The car isn't finished, and I have nothing to do to pass the time. I'm currently struggling with frustration, as many things are out of my control. When you ask the universe for patience, it doesn't just grant you patience; instead, it presents you with opportunities to practice being patient. Sometimes, that's all you need. This entry is short because I'm just not in the mood today.

It is back!........
After what felt like an eternity of waiting, my patience has finally seen its reward. While I hadn't received any updates from Ben that morning about the arrival of the part, a text message around midday brought me much-needed relief: the car was ready for pickup. Graciously, Willow offered to drive me to the Kia dealership, and soon I found myself stepping into the familiar space, eager to see my vehicle once more.
Now, with the car in my possession, I feel a rush of excitement as I prepare to embark on a journey tomorrow morning. I meticulously checked every detail, and to my contentment, everything appears to be in perfect working order for the time being. What I hope for now is a few weeks of smooth sailing without any major hiccups. If I can manage that, I can finally get back on track, and that thought alone brings a sense of optimism that is truly wonderful.
I am ready......
Yesterday, we were hit by some ferocious storms that rolled through the area, unleashing heavy rain and gusty winds, and ultimately leading to a power outage. It was our first outage in quite some time, and it got me pondering the state of our generator. After some thought I think that we need to explore outdoor storage options for it. I had every intention of starting the generator last night, but then reality set in; I remembered that it's tucked away in the garage, which, of course, is powered by electricity. It might seem like a simple task, but it turned out to be a bit more complicated than I anticipated.
Today, though the skies remain shrouded in gray, the menacing storm clouds have eased, allowing a glimmer of hope for clearer weather. On a positive note, my car has finally returned from the shop, fully repaired, and I can't wait to hit the road tomorrow morning. Seizing the opportunity of my free time, I decided to whip up some homemade sub rolls for lunch, filling the kitchen with the comforting aroma of freshly baked bread.
I also managed to complete my extensive wellness routine today, which included yoga, Reiki, Tai Chi, and a vigorous exercise session, opting for a double dose to really energize myself. In addition, I dedicated a chunk of time to honing my skills on the punching bag, letting off some steam in the process.
On the creative side, I immersed myself in a couple of guitar lessons, dove into a drawing session, and made headway on a programming lesson. It feels fantastic to be back in the groove and ready to tackle everything tomorrow. I still have some serious catching up to do, but I ended the day on a high note with a delicious plate of shrimp linguine while making progress on my novel, savoring the blend of flavors and creativity.

Rolling again........
The car is finally back in my possession and functioning smoothly. I set out on my journey about 30 minutes later than I had planned, a minor miscalculation on my part that I quickly adjusted to. Overall, the day unfolded quite nicely. After some time away from the road, I found myself needing to reacclimate to the demands of long hours behind the wheel.
As I fueled up, I couldn't help but notice the soaring gas prices, which have become quite the burden on drivers lately. Fortunately, my passengers remained calm and collected throughout the rides. While there wasn't much in the way of conversation, the exchanges that did occur were polite and devoid of any heightened emotions or disagreements, creating a peaceful atmosphere in the car.
I ended up working for about 11 hours before wrapping up my day and heading home, feeling both exhausted yet satisfied with the experience.
Just a moment, and then maybe one more......
As I mentioned earlier, readjusting to a full day of driving is proving to be a gradual process. However, I was grateful for a delightful lunch that elevated the experience; a collection cold cuts nestled between my freshly baked homemade rolls, which truly became the highlight of my day. Before diving into the workday, I managed to power through most of my morning tasks, setting a productive tone for what lay ahead. To streamline my routine, I've started keeping my exercise clothes neatly folded in my work area, allowing me the convenience of slipping from my professional attire into my workout gear without causing any disruption.
Upon returning home in the late afternoon, I shifted my focus to my meticulously crafted daily checklist. I engaged in my guitar lessons, allowing the rich sounds of the strings to fill the room, followed by a session of drawing that let my creativity flow onto the page. I even squeezed in some programming lessons, tackling each of these activities in manageable increments that fit seamlessly into my day. By the time I wrapped up my last lesson, I still had enough time to savor a hearty dinner, relishing each bite before settling down for an early night's rest. While I'm thrilled to be back at work, I can't deny how draining it can be, leaving me yearning for those cozy evenings at home.
