Welcome to The Journey

An open book journey of Christopher William Klein

Greetings: This past month, things were very often the month moved by way too fast. The theme for this month is going to be the wandering soul. I took some time this previous month and fired up my software with the new updates and my drawing tablet and this is what I came up with. I am hoping that with April, I am able to concentrate on getting my digital skills into a hard media such as oil paint. But I'm not sure if that's going to be possible. There is a lot to do and very little time.

A new month...

..With new challenges...

April 01, 2025

International Day

A new week and a new month all falling together at once. Today did not disappoint because it was International Day. I completed 22 rides today; four were international travelers going to and from Graceland. Holland, Ireland, Scotland, and Amsterdam were all represented. The most interesting travelers were those from Amsterdam because they were three very young workers in the adult industry. They are traveling the United States to see the sights, and while they are doing that, they are comparing the adult industry to that in Amsterdam. They were pretty shocked at how conservative we are in America. In Amsterdam, everything is legal and above board. These young ladies feel that we are a bit tight, not to mention uptight. It was a long, but productive day.

Still down, but not out...

I made it home at a decent time and still felt under the weather, so I spent the evening relaxing. I ate dinner and rolled One Piece on Netflix. It is a cute little adventure about young pirates with special powers. It was not that exciting, but it was able to take up time, and that is what I needed. I took the time to meditate, but that was useless. I worked a little more on the novel and on my data project, and then the day was over. I did put the final touches on my five pieces of digital art for the month, which you can see above.

Pushing through...

..the hump...

April 02, 2025

I am trying

I am doing my best, but I am still not feeling well at all. I am doing okay at work and staying right on target. The people were okay and there were no real problems, but I continued to push through the day with it feeling like it took forever to pass.

Out of it, but trying...

I pushed though as best I could, but these allergies are kicking my arse. I wanted to come home and work on the novel and do a few other things, but I just did not have it in me. So, I hit the house, relaxed and went to bed early. I have only gotten about four hours sleep in two days. It is taxing me.

The day of Thor...

..where are those old gods?...

April 03, 2025

Getting ahead

This was a good work day. I pushed through and got ahead, but not nearly as far as I would like to be. The riders have calmed down on the political talk, and that is an excellent thing. I will take it.

I still need to relax...

I am still not sleeping well because I keep waking up coughing. But it is not nearly as bad as it has been. I will take it. I got off work and ate an early dinner, but I still had little energy to get anything done. I could really use a good night of sleep. Maybe tomorrow.

The week comes to an end...

..thank Lilith...

April 04, 2025

A decent finish

It was a short day of long runs. The riders were excellent for a change, with one exception. One rider, I do not know which one, reported me for dangerous driving. Of course, Uber will not give me the information on which rider, or a time-frame, so I have no way to identify the potential issue or even defend myself with the dash-cam. It irks me off.

Backermans and beyond...

I pushed through a decent day and I was able to get off a bit early. I am still in need of a much better night of sleep, but I am feeling a lot better. The only thing that remains is the minor cough and the cramps. They are really hurting and not showing any signs of getting better. Once I got home, I started to work on the weekend list. But there was a monkey wrench in the works in the form of some serious storms. They are going to continue for the next couple of days, and that does not sound like fun at all. I did my catch-up on downloads and cleaned up the rest of the garage. I think that I am done with that project for now. I wanted to get some more writing done, but I cannot concentrate. So I settle for the more mundane things on the list and rolling some stuff on Netflix.

Not a good day...

..but I am still kicking...

April 05, 2025

Playing the odds

It was bound to happen sooner or later. I am not going to go into details, but running Lyft, someone tried to Jack the car. My response was less than docile, but I could not continue the day. So it is a bad day for money, but I was able to take advantage of the added time off.

A day down after work - and RAIN...

Okay, I handled that well, or at least I think that I did. There was an incident at work, and it made me do things that I thought were way beyond me at this point in my life. But I guess the old-cat inside me still has some bite and claws. It took a bit to get back to center, and I did not want to have a bad mood when you consider that it was Lauras birthday. I forced a good mood, for the most part, and it worked. I can deal with it later.

The day was filled with torrential rain and lightning. It was not a good day. There was flooding all around the city. Because the wife was not feeling well, I put myself at her beck-and-call, which I was going to do anyway. But she rested most of the day, and it was good for her. In the evening, I risked the rain and floods to get Mexican food from Lopez Grill. It was excellent.

I started a new piece of artwork, but I did not finish it. I wanted to work on Awakening but I could not bring myself to try to concentrate. It was not the best day, but I am feeling a lot better and moving toward feeling good. So I will take it and run.

Rest...

..recuperate...

April 06, 2025

Cook those books

Since it was a day off and all that I had to do was get to bed early, it was a day for taking care of the books. Easy to do and even got the quarterly books done.

The Storm

I have a bunch of new models for Daz3D including some new wireframes and textures. I also have a new collection of filters for Photoshop. I have been playing with them to add more structure to the models and the wind effects in current, and future art. I like it.

Not as planned...

The greater plans of mice and men are often outdone by cheese. And today was a day of cheese. Yesterday was filled with horrible rain and a lot of flooding. That means that everything today was saturated and the skies were still grey. It did not make for a good day to do things outside. So, instead, I worked on some older projects that I have not touched in ages. I finished up my music database and got about half of the audiobook database done. This is related to the backup project that I am working on, and it is well past due. This is where I am going to be putting my concentration for the near future so that I can get it completed before I have the media to back it up. The project(s) took the better part of the day, and I finished out the day by working through my new artwork, which you see above. I am feeling a lot better, but not nearly at the top of my game. I hit bed nice and early to prep for a good week. It WILL be a good week.

Where are all the nasty people?...

..they are here, they are here...

April 07, 2025

Rough day

This was quite a rough day. It started out with an extremely nasty woman that I had to take to the airport who was completely offended because I was white. And she had no problem voicing her opinion. It was probably the worst 15 minutes that I have had in a very long time. Between that ride and one a little later in the day, I gave my first one star reviews. People are angry and they are unloading on anybody that they can. And people like me are easy targets. And we're supposed to sit back and take it. I was able to do that for today, but I do not know how long I can do that.

Just a little time...

I point out above that the world is in turmoil. This is more than just an arbitrary statement. You can feel the tension in the air with just about everybody. It is like a growing cancer, but one that people are trying to ignore. Someone to ignore it because they feel it is right and others want to ignore it because they feel impotent to fight against it. Either way, the attempt to ignore it is causing a lot of strain.

OK, enough drama for right now. I pushed through and had a decent day for money, even if the people were kind of nasty. And then I got back to the house and continued my audiobook project. It is very unusual to be working on one project at a time instead of rocking a round Robin, but it seems to work out well. I've already been able to finish the music project and I am halfway through the audiobook project. I had to push through JD Robb, and that took more work. The Stephen King section is going to be quite a bear, but once I get past that, it is smooth sailing. Then it will be on to the next project. While I am doing this, I am rolling a bunch of the stuff that was on my watch later list on Hulu and Netflix. It is just a bunch of stuff that I thought looked kind of interesting, and so far I am highly disappointed in the writing abilities of the entertainment groups. Have people forgotten the storyline? How about character development? Hell, I would settle for continuity. Maybe I should have been a critic.

Another day...

..Way too people-ly...

April 08, 2025

Working the grind

I am on about the 52nd day of this week. The week is just droning on and it is neither positive nor negative. I'm getting a good mix of people, but it is like walking through a mundane landscape that has no exit. The conversation today was mostly about Memphis. Many of my riders were tourists and they were going to different sites around the city such as the riverboats or the pyramid. I had one wild child that was acting like an Amish girl on Rumspinga. She was trying to bait me into a conversation that was inappropriate while working, and she seemed very upset when I did not bite. Good for her. She got dropped off down on Beale street, so I'm sure that she will find an interesting mark for her antagonistic interests.

A bit o swing...

I would love to say that the swing that I am talking about is the need to dance, but that is not the kind of swing that I am experiencing right now. I feel like I'm at the beginnings of a mood swing and that is never a fun thing. I continue to have weird dreams, and the world continues to turn. As long as those two things are happening at the same time, the wheel can turn to any point. Of course, if either of those were to stop, I would be concerned. But I am just talking from the hip.

On a positive note over the past weekend, I was able to finish the music project and now I am working on the audiobook project. It is coming along nicely and where I gave it 21 days to be completed, it looks like it's going to be completed by the end of the week. I did run into a bit of a snap fill with some missing books, but I have a resolution for that. One day at a time.

Riding the Hump...

..not in a good way...

April 09, 2025

The eternal week

Welcome to another uphill day. The customers were quiet, but the day dragged out. I am in equilibrium with my goal for the week but teetering between being ahead and being behind. This is not the most fantastic week that I have ever had.

Better, mostly...

I did not want to get out of bed in the morning, and I wanted to crawl back in bed as soon as I got home today. Physically, I am feeling a little better, but my mental state is degrading. I feel I'm in the doldrums, and my sales cannot catch air right now. I know that the pendulum swings, but it seems stuck right now. It feels like it's been like this forever, but only a few days have passed. I am trying to maintain realism and recognize the world around me.

Making flour?...

..Facing the grind!...

April 10, 2025

Still it goes

I am honored about day 400 of this week. It is only Thursday, and it feels like I should already be on the weekend. As I said yesterday, I am not behind but cannot get ahead. I understand that part of this is due to my personal feelings and the negative mental aspect that I am carrying right now. It makes me incapable of seeing the advantages around me and, in some cases, taking advantage of life's opportunities that come my way. This weekend, I have to reset this to become more productive.

Looking toward the light...

I woke up dragging my wagon this morning. I have not been sleeping well, and today is no exception. The most significant difference is that I did not want to get out of bed this morning. I stayed in bed for almost 90 minutes after I first woke up, which is very unlike me. When I got home, I continued the audiobook project, which is progressing well. I can see the end of it. Considering that I did not have that slated for completion until close to the end of the year, I will take that as one serious win. I hit a minor snafu because I was missing quite a few books, but I could rectify that. The only thing I can think of that has been lost is William Shakespeare's and Stephen R Donaldson's complete works. Shakespeare, I have been able to replace it for the most part, but Donaldson's works are another story. They are not available. I will have to keep trying because The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant is one of my favorite series ever.

The week, boss...

..The week has ended...

April 11, 2025

Shorty gonna hate

No, I have not suddenly gone gangster. The Shorty that I am referring to is the day. I only put in about 7 hours today because I was beyond exhausted. I hit the week's goal but did not surpass it. However, I have plans this week to split shift every day so that I can run both rideshare programs, and maybe we can get ahead on some of these things. I took hitting the goal as a win for the week, but I am not feeling fantastic about it. I am just accepting it and moving on.

A night of comedy...

Today was the big day. I was off from work nice and early, and I went home to relax. Usually, sleep would follow relaxation, but that was not the case today. I stayed up later today than I have in a very long time, almost 10:00 PM. Why would I stay up so late? Because my wife, my daughter, and I went to a comedy show with Henry Cho. I have to admit that the dude is funny. We enjoyed ourselves and that is what counts. We have been looking forward to this for quite a while. The opener for the show was Nathan Wallace. I have to say that I am not a fan. His entire act seemed to be on fat-shaming, impersonal degradation of the self. He had a few zingers, but I did not find him funny. I agree that we should be able to laugh at ourselves, but he does not bring it. Don't get me wrong, I think some people would find him very funny, I am just not one of them. In his defense, he admits that he's only been doing this for about two weeks professionally, so he has plenty of time for improvement. I wish him luck.

Push it...

..Push it real good...

April 12, 2025

Let's be lazy

I decided to play hooky today because of the late-night comedy show last night. Not because I am lazy, but because I must reset and get things together. I have been skating on top of the ice for way too long, and it's time to take control and perform a pirouette or two. So I will start to spin. The only thing I did for the day regarding the work was to balance out the books. This leaves tomorrow open for some serious planning for the coming week.

Something different

I looked at my recent work, and there are too many people. So today, I listened to a 15-minute audiobook on expressionism and tried to capture the idea. How did I do?

Now this is a decent day...

Here is some foreshadowing for you: I believe the dishwasher has gone to Valhalla. But we will not be able to confirm that until tomorrow morning. I already know the answer, but I will still have to troubleshoot. For now, we will be optimistic.

First things first, it was a perfect day. After getting to bed so late last night, I did not sleep nearly as well as I had hoped, but my internal clock is working just fine. Considering my plans for the coming week, that will be very important. But I was up and in motion nice and early, and I blew right through the end of the audiobook project. And by that, I mean that it is done. Pretty exciting, right? Maybe it isn't that exciting unless you have been in the middle of it, but it is exciting to me. This also means that tomorrow I get to pick the next project I will blow out of the water.

After finishing the audiobook project, I grabbed one of these smaller educational audiobooks on expressionism to test the quality. The quality was just fine, inspiring me to do the piece you see above. This is not my style, but I think it came out OK. I may explore this a little later, but for now I will drop it.

Then it was time for some fun with Laura. That fun time consisted of doing our tune-up on our Chevy Spark. The car has been acting up for a while, and it's about $900 to get the spark plugs changed. That is completely ridiculous, so we decided to do it ourselves. When I went to buy the parts at AutoZone, they were almost $400. Talk about sticker shock. Laura found them online for about 1/10th of the price of the service fee. And we set out on the adventure to do the task. It was not nearly as hard as people make it out to be. It took about an hour, and she did a test drive afterwards, and it seems to have worked, but only time will tell.

I grabbed the nap in the air mid-afternoon, and then I was ready for the evening. There was some personal family time, and I relaxed watching a new season of Black Mirror on Netflix. I have been waiting for that season to drop for a long time. It was an excellent reward for a decent day. Tomorrow, I have to muster the horses and get everything in line for the coming week. I have a plan, and the world trembles when I have a plan.

Just don't do it...

..work, that is...

April 13, 2025

Reset and reflect

A day to push through and prepare for the week to come. I had no work obligations today, but I spent the day prepping for tomorrow morning to be out the door early on my new schedule. I do not know how well this is going to work, but I'm going to give it a try. I will be splitting my time between the two ride-share apps each day. In theory, if this works as I intend, I should be able to take weekends off and advance our financial agenda.

By the numbers...

Being Sunday, this was truly a day off for me. I had no obligations other than those that I imposed on myself. The most significant thing that I did was to get everything set up for the week. So that I will have no distractions and be able to work my new schedule. Once that was out of the way, I was free to do as I liked.

The first part of the adventure was taking care of the lawn. I wanted to do both the front and the back, but I ran out of time because of the battery. The front yard did not completely deplete the battery, but it did not leave enough juice to get the backyard done. This is especially true since I want to bag the backyard to take care of the little balls from the tree. At Laura's suggestion, I'm going to bag the entire backyard instead of just shooting the balls all over the place. But I did get the entire front yard done and I did the weed whacking.

Next, it was time to relax with a little artwork. You will notice that there is no new artwork but stood for today. Why would this be? Simply put, the one that I did today would be considered not safe for work. Anybody that knows me would not consider me a prude. In fact, all things being considered, I would probably fall on the opposite end of that spectrum. But when it comes to artwork, or at least displaying my artwork, I am a bit conservative. Because the subject that I did today could be considered risque, I have chosen to keep it to myself. If anyone would like to see it, you can message me and I will send it to you directly. Aside from that, it will stay in my personal collection.

The next adventure was double checking my data. With the completion of the audiobook project yesterday, that means that my digital collection is complete. This is a multi year project. I cannot believe that it is over. The only data that remains to be sorted is my PDF collection, but that is going to take years in itself and that is outside the scope of this part of the project.

Moving on. Once the fun stuff was out of the way and I do include the yard in that, it was time to tackle the problem of the week. The dishwasher has stopped washing dishes. I checked the troubleshooting guide and it gave me about 5 things to check and the entire process took about four hours. Once I had gone through all the processes, I tested the machine and found that that did not fix it. The most likely culprit is the water pump. It is still pushing water through the system and I've checked every entrance and exit point and they are clear, but it does not have the power to do what it is supposed to do. Having it repaired by a professional would cost as much as replacing the unit. So that is going to be a talk with the wife. Until then, we are back in the stone ages and washing dishes by hand. Ohh the horror.

Next, and almost at the end, it was time to cook a rack of ribs. I made the dry rub from scratch, and I put the ribs in the instapot. They came out quite well and then I cleaned up the kitchen and the day of toil was done. I finished out the day by working on the novel and then it was time to sleep.

Well now...

..today was a little slice of hell...

April 14, 2025

The new plan: Not a great start

As of today, I am working both jobs, split into two sections. I run Uber in the morning and then end the day out with Lyft. That did not go so well today. On both rideshare apps, I got stuck in the medical zone where I was running people from different appointments to home, and it was only a few miles for each rider. This nickel and dimed me to death, and I did not come close to any of my goals. To top it off, my low air indicator came on the dashboard with more than an hour left on my final clock. This is not the first time this has happened, and it probably will not be the last. I had to cut out an hour early and go to Firestone. And that is another story that you can read below. I have faith that this plan will work, but it is off to a very bad start.

Now for hell...

I have been using Firestone for a very long time, and I have never had an experience like I had today. Regardless of what I'm getting done on the car, they are usually professional, keep me updated, and work quickly at least in perspective of what is happening in the world. Today was another story. I got the Firestone around 1:30 in the afternoon, and I did not leave there until almost 7:00 in the evening with nothing more than a nail in my tire. Every Bay was full, and there were only two or so technicians on staff. I understand that there is an employment issue, but that was not the problem. The problem is that they finally pulled my car in after about four hours and removed the front tire. This is a very good thing because that is the only tire that has never been replaced since I got new tires. Then some more waiting happened because the technician who was working on my car went home. He left the car in the air with the tire off and no instructions. To top it off, nobody noticed. When the front desk manager left and was replaced by a second front desk manager, they did not notice until I asked about it. One of the other technicians agreed to stay late and finish up the car, and did the rest of the inspection that the first technician failed to do. They found a second tire with a screw in the side wall. This means that two tires had to be replaced. Without getting angry, I pointed out the inconvenience of a 5-hour wait to repair a tire without explanation. The front desk manager made up for it by giving me more than half off the entire process. It still left me irritated. I was exhausted and beyond hungry. But the day was over and I made the best of it. Tomorrow is another day.

Famine...

..or feast...

April 15, 2025

More interesting!

Tuesday was more interesting than Monday, and a lot more productive. I woke up exhausted and had trouble getting into motion. This made me almost two hours late starting out. My hopes for a good day were dashed when I got my first rider and they cancelled on the way to pick them up. There was an immediate rider right after them, and I did not look at the assignment before I clicked accept. I had to travel over to West Memphis AR to pick up a truck driver at the pilot, and when I started my navigation I found out that they were going 153 miles toward Jackson Ms. It was a pleasant enough run and there was very little conversation because the driver spoke Hindy and did not have a command of the English language. The ride was uneventful, but I was very much feeling the exhaustion.

Normally, when I do a long run like this, will turn off my beacon and head back toward Memphis. Today, I forgot to do that. I was wholly prepared to roll back the entire way unpaid. About 1/3 of the way back to Memphis, I realized my error when I got a ride request. It was another very long run headed in the right direction. Between the two runs, they were worth about $178 which is only $22.00 short of my goal for the day. Once I was back in Memphis I easily picked those up by two more trips. Unfortunately, my exhaustion got the better of me and I did not get to run the second job today. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better.

Buddy, can you spare an electric shock?...

The most prevalent problem today is exhaustion. Due to the extremely long day yesterday and getting to sleep so late, I did not have the juice in me to continue to the second part of the day. I shut it down and headed home. I spent the afternoon meditating and relaxing in preparation for tomorrow. I am not doing that bad, but I will have a short day on Thursday because I have to be home for the HVAC check-up. So I have to do my best to milk the remaining days for what they're worth. With the dishwasher down, the family attempts to stay ahead of the dishes and keep the kitchen relatively clean. I am doing my part in this, and so far it is working. This weekend we will figure out how to deal with the situation.

I would take some time and work on the novel this afternoon, or at least that was the plan. But by the time I got settled in and ate a peanut butter sandwich, I did not have any juice left to do anything but a little bit of e-mail, and update the blog. I did not have the brain power to work on the novel. It has been a rough start to the week, and I am hoping that it finishes nice and clean. I have a lot on deck for the weekend, and quite a bit of that rides on the ability to meet both of my goals in the five days that make up the week. Fingers crossed.

Another day...

..another ulcer...

April 16, 2025

Nah, not an ulcer, but not a fun day.

The day started with an adult entertainer who used our drive time to reflect on her choices and explain that one of the local strip clubs is using almost 80 dancers a night, and that is making it so that no one is making any money. It was not a pleasant conversation, but I did my best to maintain my professionalism. It worked, but it was uncomfortable. The rest of the day was repetitive conversations about the current news. And the day did not go well. I was able to catch up a bit, but not enough. It is a long week.

Daily exhaustion...

Once I got home, I was exhausted again. I do not believe that this is being caused by the longer hours, but by the lack of sleep since Monday. Everything is like trying to swim up a river and by the time I got home there was little that I could do but sit and stare until it was time to eat and go to bed. Thankfully, Laura made hot dogs and hamburgers and they perfectly hit the spot.

Almost over...

..one hell of a week...

April 17, 2025

Not nearly enough.

I was up and in motion nice, early, and very awake, even though I did not sleep well. I pushed through the day, and I had decent rides, but it was not enough to make up for the failures early in the week. I finally shut it down around 9:00 AM so that I could get home and take care of the air conditioning. I still need to catch up $280 before I quit for the week, and I'm not sure if I'm going to do it. There was a quest for this week, but I did not get anywhere near completion. The riders today were a bit on the annoying side, but I did have two interesting ones. One was a supervisor for Phelps security, and the other was a half-owner of a forklift training company. Conversations with both of these people gave me leads on potential jobs other than doing the ride-share.

Annoyance...

I had to be back at the house by 10 AM, which cut the day short. I had to be there to take care of the air conditioning and the bi-annual checkup. It was a bit of an annoyance. I was hoping that they would get there nice and early, but I received a call about 11:00 AM saying that we were on the schedule, but a technician had not yet been dispatched. I worked on some stuff around the house, and I worked on my novel. I also looked into the Phelps security position and filled out an application. The position is for a field supervisor who goes from site to site overnight and makes sure that people are awake. Additionally, I investigated the pay rate of forklift operators in the Memphis demographic. Even without experience, the rate of pay is between $15.00 an hour and $35.00 an hour. Plus, I could work at places like Home Depot or Lowe's on the overnight shift. Because of my conversation with one owner of the training company, I can get the training for about $100, which is good for three years. It is something that I'm going to consider, but first, I have to get a good week of rideshare in. And this was not one of those weeks. So the rest of the day was spent waiting for the HVAC company and doing odd jobs around the house. Part of my weekend list.

The end...

..at least for now...

April 18, 2025

Swing and a miss.

I pushed as hard as I could for the day, but it was not enough. I worked to the limits of my clock, but I was still about $70 short for the week. When you consider that I lost almost 10 hours this week, that is not terrible, but it still annoys the hell out of me. It was quite a calm day, and I was glad to be done with it.

To breathe free...

First thing in the morning, I was up and out the door in record time. So I did very little before I went to work. I pushed through the day and made it home in the early afternoon, but I was beyond exhausted. I took a little time and downloaded my new 3D models for the week, which are very exciting. Before I went to bed, I preloaded both the hardware and the software so that I could work on a few ideas I had for the new models first thing in the morning. Fingers crossed, then I will be able to get something out in the morning.

I release a heavy sigh...

..and the world turns...

April 19, 2025

Rest, sweet rest.

The week is done, and today is a day for rest. I took care of the paperwork for the week before the day even started, which was the end of work. I like the new schedule where I work my tailbone off for five days and then take two days off. I don't know if this will last long, but I will try my best.

Meet Megan

I am very excited about the 3D software updates this week. I received Megan and a bunch of accessories for her. She did not come with any textures, but the wire frame is excellent and has several pivot points that make her very easy to pose. I dropped her into my virtual studio; here you see what came out. The demon and supplicant are separate projects I've been working on since the beginning of the year. The other four are Megan.

I work harder on my days off...

I did not sleep well, but took full advantage of the lack of sleep. Since I did not have to work today, I could work through the day without worrying. As you see, I started the day with my new 3D model, Megan. I like these models, I can put them into a virtual studio and treat them like a human being. Granted, I set my palette and tools to the psychedelic 1960s, but that was intentional. The Megan model reminds me of some old 1960 movies, and the palette and tools were appropriate.

I had quite a few things on the agenda for today, but I only got through a few because they were incredibly time-consuming. The big thing for the day was to take care of the front and the rear lawn. I knocked that out using 1 1/2 batteries on the new lawn mower. That is pretty good staying power for an electric device. Between charges, I did the edging and the weed whacking around the front and the rear, and it worked out pretty well. The batteries charge quickly. The yard is not perfect, but it is getting there. One of the most significant issues that I have right now is the intrusion of moles. I will have to remember to jump on Amazon in the morning and add some mole pellets to the shopping cart. While I am at it, I will put it in writing here so I do not forget that I want to add the magnetic strip for the bathroom shower. Apologies, that was just a personal segue.

Next on the list was the Jeep. I had to get gas for the Jeep, and they have to get it started and see if there's anything else I need to do before I sell it. I was able to get the gas, but I ran out of steam and had to sit and relax. Say what you will, but the people who work at the landscaping companies are very underrated. All I did was mow the front and the backyard, and I was exhausted. I could not imagine doing that in the heat for 8 or 10 hours daily.

As the evening rolled around, I ate my dinner and then sat and watched a movie. The funny thing is that I do not remember what movie I watched, even two hours later, because I was not really paying attention to it. I'm sure that if I were to concentrate, I could figure it out, but it's not that important. It was a nice hard day's work, 20 glasses of water, and a restful evening. Tomorrow is another day.

Here is nothing...

..and lots of things...

April 20, 2025

No work and all play...

A final day off before I have to head back to work, and there was very little on the agenda for the day when it comes to work, except for setting up the morning. Before I cut out for today's day, I set up my morning routine and made my sandwich. I should be able to wake up, do my morning routine, and be on the road without a hitch. At least that is the plan.

Winding down...

This was the beginning of spring cleaning. I did a spic and span job on the downstairs bathroom, and the mini bathroom off of the master bedroom. They have not been touched in a while and were starting to get on my nerves. Today, I had to cut a hole in the wall of Willow's closet to find the source of the Jack and Jill bathroom leak. That's going to turn into a much larger project than I thought it was going to be. On the positive side, when I opened the wall, I was not immediately inundated with festering mold. It was a possibility, but that is not the case. To properly get at whatever is leaking, I will have to remove the inner wall, but that is a project for a time that is not now.

I caught up on some of my lessons that I have let go to the wayside, because there have been other priorities. I have my art lessons in one place and my digital art lessons in another. I'm continuing with my programming and my language lessons. I must build it all into a good routine again to accommodate the new working hours.

One thing that is getting on my nerves is that I have not had the time to play with my bell-bottom pattern. I need to take the time and get that done. But the yard work was very time-consuming, and the wall outside the bathroom was a priority. Now, I just have to sit back and see what I can do about getting into a routine that will accommodate everything that I want to get done.

Yesterday I put up the five pieces of artwork I have been working on, and I have a sixth piece, but it is nowhere near complete. I hoped to get that online this weekend, but that did not happen. I also took the time to review about half of the magazines I had sitting, and there is still quite a stack to go through. I made sure that I drank lots of water and got a bit of exercise so that maybe my muscles will stop revolting. Don't ever get old.

Finally, I rolled the show Blacklist In the background while I was doing everything else and I am liking that show. It is not very realistic to life, but it is entertaining. I wanted to watch Golden Compass this weekend, but could not get in the mood for it. I did not want to take the time to watch a movie. At the height of my migraine, I did watch Thor: Ragnarok, but mostly for the Led Zeppelin soundtrack. What can I say? Good old rock'n'roll can help when you are out of sorts.

A good start...

..Mostly...

April 21, 2025

I did it, I actually did it...

I was still feeling a little off this morning when I started my day, but I got on to the first ride share right on time. As of this week, I have started a new process where I run both ride shares each day. I usually run Uber first, and that is what I did this morning. But I completely forgot that the first four hours of Monday go on the previous week because of the time differential. So it increased the profit for last week, but it kicked this week in the nads, at least to start out. I think that I'm going to switch to doing Lyft first thing in the morning, and Uber in the afternoon. I have to check the heat maps, but I'm going to try it tomorrow and see what happens. There is a serious learning curve going on, but I will rise to the occasion. I'm going to count today as a decent day.

Push on...

Work went well, and all that remained was for me to get to the gym. And I got it done. I did 2 miles on the elliptical in a mountainous terrain setting, and then I worked my upper body a little.. I will not overdo it, and I will increase slowly. But I made it to the gym and did what I said I would do. I'm still debating whether I will do three or five days a week, and I will see how I feel in the morning.

When I got home, the first thing I did was take a nice, hot shower. I forgot this morning, and I do not like feeling crusty. While I was in the shower, I put my potatoes in the oven and set up my coffee for the morning. Everything went like clockwork. I came down, did e-mail, and updated the blog, and then it was the end of the day. I have a lot of brain work that I have to do, and I have a few things to do around the house, but they will all wait till this weekend.

The final thing I did was work on my artwork and studies. The artwork still needs a lot of work before I can post it, and I am so far behind in my studies. It is time to anchor down and push on. If I can get this new routine in place, it will clear up my weekends completely, and I'll be able to do stuff like work around the house and take a day camping. It's warm enough now that I could do it whenever I want, but I have too many obligations to get out of the way first, and I have to set my priorities. It is good to take care of your head, but not at the cost of your body, or anything else necessary. I have to set my priorities.

The week...

..it pushes on...

April 22, 2025

What day is it?...

It is only Tuesday but I feel like we are on the 7th or 8th day of this week. It was just one thing after another. The riders, the conversation, the assignments. They were all like something out of a noir mystery intent on driving me crazy. I reversed the ride share and it worked pretty well, but the writers on both sides of the line were all on edge. It became predictable as the day went on because everybody was upset, but nobody could say what they were upset about. I guess time rolls on.

Fraying at the edges...

It was bound to happen sooner or later, but I am starting to fray at the edges with the ride share. I think it has something to do with the drop of drivers, and the fact that they have to allocate more of the unprofitable runs to the drivers that remain. Usually, the algorithm is very good at giving us a melting pot of good and bad rides. Since there are more negative rides than positive rides, we all have to pick up the slack. It's very annoying. By the time I got home, I just wanted to eat and sleep period but even that didn't work and I got to bed late.

Wow...

..only hump day?...

April 23, 2025

What is that hump?...

I could not do both ride shares today because they have to shore up the numbers on the household fund. I worked Uber the entire day, and it went pretty well until after lunch. Then I got 2 very large very far runs, but both of them were problematic. The writers just were not cooperative and one of them even disappeared for 20 minutes. In the first case, I had to go 30 minutes to do a 30 mile run, and he's the one that disappeared. The second one was going from Arkansas over to the outlet mall in Mississippi, and she was a pistol. She got ill during the run and had to take 20 minutes at the side of the road. So out of the four hours in my afternoon, three of them were wasted. Tomorrow is going to be more difficult because I have to try and play catch up on both sides of the system.

Relax and breathe...

On my way home, I decided to grab Virgil and go to the 7th level of hell. OK, that might be an exaggeration. But I did stop by Walmart, the bad one, to get Laura's milk. While I was there, as soon as I walked in, I saw a few men that were about to commit a nice push out. I brought this to the attention of those in charge and went about my day. I think they got them. Not my problem period then it was home to play catch up on everything before I ate dinner and went to bed. Boy is my life boring right now. This weekend, I plan to sit down and reevaluate what I am doing for a living. I think it may be time to shake things up a little.

Oh Look...

..a bug...

April 24, 2025

Success and fame...

I worked my little heart out today and had a little bit of success. I got some decent rides and even an interesting person. I picked up a gentleman to go to the airport and we started talking about music and it turns out that he is with a band. The band that he is with is Bug Hunter. In fact, he was the namesake's father. I was able to talk to him the entire way to the airport and I even got Laura on the phone and it appears to have made her day. Even though I am still stressing about the amount of money this week, it made everything a little bit better.

Pushing the wall...

I only ran with Uber today and then I headed home. I pushed as hard as I could and got to the ride goal for the week, and that is something. However, by the time I finished that, I was too tired to continue so I had to put Lyft and the gym on the back burner for the day. I headed home and made myself a hot ham and cheese sandwich and relaxed for the evening. Just one more day to go and we are into the weekend and all that that entails. I have a selfie of Chris from Bug Hunter and me at the airport and I will try to include it this weekend.

The end...

..at least of the week...

April 25, 2025

Pushy my tushy...

This has been the week that will not end. Thankfully, it has ended and we are there. I was ready to hang up the week, and then I got a run to Blytheville AR. I was literally ready to push my off duty button when that ride came in. I picked a person up at a hotel in West Memphis AR and took them up to Blytheville, and that was the end of the day. I kept my beacon on all the way back, and did not turn it off until I was back in West Memphis. That cuts the profit for the ride in half, but that is OK because the week is over. Even with the minor inconvenience of how Uber processes time on Monday, I could get very close to the goal for the week, if not beyond it. But this week was a struggle, and it is time to foster other ideas.

Fear?

I am still working with the new models, and this time it is facial structure. I was going for fear or terror, but I think that I might have gotten anger. The book that I'm reading right now is about the musculature of the face in different expressions. I think that I might have gotten this one wrong. Everything else is just window dressing.

Relax or else...

I am still fighting the physical ailments. I am almost a month into daily cramps in my legs and mid body, as well as some of my more tender bits. My head has been acting up and so has my stomach. In short, I am falling apart. I have a feeling that a lot of this is environmental because of the pollen level. That is giving me the headache, and I'm sure there's sinus drainage that is making my stomach upset. Not being able to sleep properly makes me move my legs around too much and that causes the cramps. Just because you know where something is coming from and doesn't mean it is a good thing. Especially when there's nothing you can do about it because I will not live in a hyperbaric chamber three months out of the year just because the trees want to spread their wild oats.

Anyway, I got back to the house at a decent time and I spent the afternoon working on my artwork and the novel and relaxing. The migraine has gone through the top of my head and it feels like chipmunks are using jackhammers to open my skull. Concentrating on things probably was not my best plan, but it worked out. We had Taco Bell for dinner, and I know that I'm going to regret that. But it was pretty good. One of these weeks, I think we should have Chinese from Asian star. It has been a while and I am dying for some lo mein. What a strange craving.

This weekend, I have quite a bit on my plate, but I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to get done. More, it depends on a solid night's sleep tonight, so I have my fingers crossed for that one. The big things that I need to get done are cleaning up the car and getting the plumbing checked. And we will go from there. I have to make it a point to get to the doctor next week to get my medications updated, and I really need to get this novel completely edited and allocate the money for the publishing. I keep reading the same chapter repeatedly and I am my own worst enemy. But that is a story for another time, no pun intended.

I got into bed at a decent time and I sent my thoughts out to the land of Morpheus to see if he would be kind. I guess we will find out tomorrow.

It has come at last...

..the weekend...

April 26, 2025

No soup for you...

It was one hell of a week, and it felt that it would never end. I was working on the new schedule all week, but it did not go quite as well as I had planned. I hope that next week I will tighten it up, but we shall see. I hit the goal, barely, but I made little extra. So today was a day of rest.

Fight on...

Yesterday, I said that I hoped I would get a good night's sleep and that would lead to an outstanding day. That did not happen. In fact, whatever was running through my head had me awake before midnight and I could not get back to sleep. However, I took advantage of that and I could tear through quite a bit that was sitting on my desk while I did not have a headache. That was a welcome relief, but it did not last for the day.

I finished the next phase of the library archives, and I am slowly getting there. I tried to work on a piece of artwork that does not include a physical form of a human being, because I know my wife likes landscapes better, but I just could not get there. No matter what theme I tried, be it a winter's day, or a seascape, they just came out very bland. Between three hours on that and three hours of meditation to dispel some of the negative energy, that was six hours of time that were pushed out of the day and produced nothing. Please don't get me wrong, the meditation was helpful to adjust my mood, and working on the landscapes was soothing, but I did not like the output.

By the time that I finished with my meditation, my art lessons, e-mail and blog, the world was in motion. Once Willow was up and in motion, it was time to tear apart walls. I cut a nice big hole in the wall behind the tub, and it was bone dry. That surprised me. As the day worked onward, the headache returned as a quadruple migraine, but I forged onward. I used a minor meditation technique and a little luck and cut a hole in the garage's wall and I might have found the problem. It looks like there are two holes in the drainage pipe that are leaking. It's easy enough to fix once I get the putty and that has been ordered. If that is the answer, then I will take it.

By the time I finished with my plumbing adventures, the migraine had quadrupled in effect. I sorted out my medication and did a bit of paperwork that had been sitting and mostly listened to music and watched movies in the background to end the day. Tomorrow, I have to prepare for the week and I still have a bunch of things on my To Do List.

To rest...

..or not to rest...

April 27, 2025

One hell of a question...

With a day off, it was time to clean up the record keeping for the week, and that was the end of work for the week. I was able to get everything prepped for tomorrow, and I am ready to attack this week.

Be lazy, it is alright...

I do not actually believe that it is OK to be lazy, even on my day off, that I decided that I was going to own it and that is exactly what I did. I fixed the 3D printer, and I did a test print that came out fine. I cleaned up a bit of the garage, but it was raining outside and I could not do any of the outside work. So I worked on my data collection, did some of my studies, tried a bit of artwork that did not come out well, and spent the rest of the day relaxing. It was not the greatest use of my time, but I am OK with it.

I don't like it...

..No sir, not at all...

April 28, 2025

Well, that kinda sucked...

I started the day with disappointed strippers and angry prostitutes, and the day went downhill from there. Because we are short so many drivers, they are handing out the micro runs to those of us that remain. It is really eating into the financial side of the ride share. I was stuck on medical runs for more than half of the day, and usually, at 10:00 AM, I switch services. But I could not do that today because I was too far behind on the main account. The riders were nasty, traffic was horrible, and it was overall a very bad day. Even working four extra hours on the main service did not get me to my goal. I am hoping that this is just a negative day and it will recover later in the week.

Bad Juju...

I got a decent night's sleep, and I was up and in motion right on time period because I had prepped everything the night before, I was ready to walk out the door well before I had to. The negative time at work completely destroyed my positive attitude. I pushed until the end of the day and by the time that I got home, I was very tightly wound. I made a conscious choice to sit and watch a cute movie, Afterlife of the party, starring Victoria Justice. Victoria plays a girl who dies near her 25th birthday and is sent back to reconcile with her best friend and both of her parents. It is a cute tear jerker and exactly what I needed. I took all my plans for the evening off of the plate and watched the movie instead. I believe it was the proper choice because it rebalanced my mood, and it's never good to go to bed in such a negative head space. It did blow the evening out of the water, but I can accept that. I tried to work on my artwork again, but it was too frustrating and I wound up deleting it. I'm having the same problem with the novel. I think that I may be in a creativity block situation. Time to go back to some of the old techniques of breaking those blocks. Now, I just have to remember what those techniques are. Then it was time for some lazy chicken parmesan and bed.

Well that really...

..SUCKED...

April 29, 2025

Fighting the tide...

There are days when I can rise above and fight against any enemy that comes my way. And there are days that I am a salmon swimming up the river and watching for the bear that finally gets me. Today was the river. I woke up almost an hour late and I had trouble getting into motion, and when I finally did, I was faced with rider after rider that was going just a few miles. $100 and seven hours and it was frustrating. I finally decided that I would reset and I headed home to eat lunch, with some personal business in the middle, and then when I returned I found that I was shut down. The problem had already been resolved and I'm not going into what it was, but it took a while for Uber to reset my account. By the time that they did that, I was sitting at home sulking. That means that I am running over $100 behind for the week, and I'm going to have to play catch up. That also means that i'm going to have to concentrate On the House fund and not be able to touch the slush fund this week. I have to keep my priorities straight.

Who the hell is this?

My dreams have been obscure lately and I decided to use my 3D software and some of the new wireframe models to try and give them a face. This young lady, 13 years old, is a recurring character in my dreams. Sigmund Freud said that when you dream, they are either memories of things you have seen, or fantasies, then incorporate what you know. This woman identifies as my wife, whom I have known for 30 years. But this is not what she looks like. This image has appeared to me on numerous occasions and in numerous situations. I think that I have gotten very close to the image that is in my dreams. It's a basic wireframe on a standard background. Perhaps there will be more later.

A NOPE day...

First, I woke up very late, and I was an hour late getting on the road. Then I got nickel-and-dimed to death for seven hours. After expenses, it comes out to about $10.00 an hour. So I decided to head home, eat lunch, and reset. When I headed back out of the house, I made the decision to stop by the doctor's and get my medication refilled. That went well. I logged back in and found my account shut down and I had to deal with that. By then, I was getting tired and I was too tired to get back on the road by the time they got everything fixed. I called it a day and worked on my artwork and my novel. Tomorrow is another day, and I'm heading to bed early so I can start out early. I have to find a way to catch up, and I have to find a way to do the mental health thing.

Better...

..MUCH better...

April 30, 2025

Fighting back...

I was up early and in motion, but I was dreading the day to come. It turns out that that was paranoia because I ripped through the day for 11 hours and I went from being $130.00 behind to only $40 behind. I had some interesting riders, and I was all over the demographic. I even gave a successful author a ride home and I got to see what success looks like. A 19 bedroom house with a bunch of cats, I might have to rethink success. I don't think the cats would be a problem, but I would not want to clean that house.

Sigh of relief...

This week has been one of the worst in recent memory, but it looks like it might have turned around at least for today. Since I was up on time, I could get everything done in the morning, and I even started the day with my new breakfast, biscuits and gravy. But it was not thin and runny biscuits and gravy; I made it all from scratch. OK, I used a gravy packet, but I did the rest alone. It is thick and chunky, and the biscuits came out excellent from scratch. It was a wonderful start to the day, and everything went uphill. Considering everything was running downhill all week, it is a welcome change.

Back at the house, I took the time to sit down and relax and catch up on everything that I am behind on. I think that I can finally say that I am even keel on everything that I am supposed to be getting done. I took a little bit of time to investigate how to grow honeysuckle because Laura told me that Willow was interested. I put a set of the supplies in the Amazon cart, and we will go from there. I was going to fix the drainage pipe today, but I do not know the last time that Willow showered or when she's going to and I think I will hold this off until Friday. Besides that, it was a relaxing afternoon and I was in bed early, hoping for another good day tomorrow.
