Welcome to The Journey

An open book journey of Christopher William Klein

I was not in the mood for digital art this month, so you only get one. Just a bit of a photoshop image about a dystopian world.

Greetings: August passed by too quickly. I'm still adjusting to the new job, and it's much harder than I expected. Not that the job is difficult; adjusting to the people is.

New Month...

..new chances......

September 01, 2026

..Off; day one.....

Today was all about paperwork, and I managed to complete it quickly. I'm quite disappointed that I only had one day of ride-sharing this past week, but there's nothing I can do to change that now. It was just a series of unfortunate events. With a bit of luck and perseverance, I hope this coming week will be better. Aside from that, I tried to put work out of my mind until tomorrow.

..The New month: The Birth Month....

It's time to welcome in the new month, and this one is particularly special because my birthday falls in the middle of it. For most of my adult life, I would feel a wave of depression every time September 1st rolled around. However, this year, that's not the case. While I want to view this as a positive change, I also need to be realistic. It's likely that I've been so moody over the past couple of months that no amount of moodiness has made a difference.

It's hard to believe that another year has passed, but the numbers are there in black and white. It's been quite a year, but I'm determined not to let it get to me. I'm going to do my best to move forward with a positive attitude.

On my first of two days off, I think I accomplished quite a bit. My main goal for today was tackling the deck. I continued with the demolition and discovered a few more issues. While I wasn't completely surprised, it was still disappointing. Working with my wife, we made some decisions, and I plan to implement those during the rebuild.

Since the ladies were unavailable for most of the day, I took the opportunity to put on my headset and listen to some stimulating music while doing a serious meditation. My dreams have been rather chaotic lately, and I feel like my subconscious is trying to tell me something, but I haven't quite figured it out. Unfortunately, the meditation didn't reveal anything new, but it did help calm my racing thoughts, so I'll take that as a win.

I also spent some time working on my abdomen, legs, and footwork on the heavy bag. By the end of the day, I was tired, so I settled in to watch a rather mundane movie.

Spinning wheels...

..not just an old song......

..The plans and thoughts of mice and men.....

Today was dedicated to work planning since I did not have any significant responsibilities. I took advantage of the day by ensuring I had enough food prepared for my lunches. I also reviewed my schedule to confirm that there were no upcoming conflicts. Everything is in order.

..Down on a day off? That is weird....

Since today marks the second of my two days off, I typically aim to embrace it as a dedicated day of rest and rejuvenation. For the most part, I successfully managed to do just that. Bright and early, before the sun climbed too high into the sky, I tackled the construction of the sawhorses for my deck project. The satisfying sound of tools in action accompanied my efforts, and by mid-morning, I had completed the sawhorses, leaving me with a sense of accomplishment. After that, I took a moment to do a quick clean-up of the pool. Although I didn't break out the vacuum this time, I spent some time skimming the surface and removing most of the debris floating in the water, which brightened the space considerably.

However, as the day wore on, my mood began to take a downward turn around midday. I found myself feeling increasingly melancholic, a pattern that unfortunately continued to develop throughout the afternoon. While this isn't exactly how I envisioned spending my day off, I remind myself that moods are naturally volatile; they ebb and flow like the tide. I'm trying to focus on the upcoming week ahead, even though it feels as if time is slipping through my fingers too quickly. I can only wait and see what the coming days might hold.

In addition to my outdoor projects, I dedicated some time to cleaning the fryer, which had become a bit grimy after numerous uses. Afterward, I organized my collection of recipes, flipping through the pages and jotting down ideas for delicious meals I hope to prepare during my next day off. It's something I always look forward to, as cooking can be a great source of joy and creativity for me.

Later in the day, I encountered a bit of frustration when I spent an hour on the phone with Network Solutions in an attempt to resolve some lingering issues. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to reach anyone, which added to my sense of urgency. I really need to address this before complications arise, but I'm determined to get it sorted out soon.

Overall, I'm left in a bit of a quandary about how to label today; is it a positive experience or a negative one? Rather than trying to force a label, I think I'll simply regard it as just another day in the rhythm of life; full of its ups and downs.

The old grind...

..such fun......

September 03, 2026

..Two is better than one?.....

You might expect that having two full-time managers present in a Walmart store at all times would contribute to a seamless operation, but in my experience, the reality is quite the opposite. On the second day of my shift, which I unfortunately missed the previous day, I arrived to find both managers on duty from the moment I clocked in until we locked up for the night. On the surface, it looked promising as the stocking team was noticeably ahead of schedule; however, the overall functioning of the store fell woefully short.

Curiously, throughout my shift, both managers would frequently disappear at the same time, leaving the store without sufficient supervision. This puzzling situation not only raised questions about their respective priorities but also created an atmosphere of disarray among the employees who were left to manage the store without clear guidance.

I tried my best to focus on my assigned tasks, but I found myself constantly pulled into managerial responsibilities that are far beyond the scope of my role. It's frustrating because I've often stated that I'm just the lowest man on the totem pole, and these unexpected duties should not be landing on my shoulders. Despite my best efforts to maintain productivity, I felt the pressure mounting when I realized I was running ten minutes ahead of schedule.

In a bid to meet my own commitments and avoid further complications, I made the decision to cut my time short and leave early, which I did without much hesitation. As I glanced back on my way out, I couldn't help but notice a line of at least a dozen customers waiting at the open registers, a stark reminder of the chaos that often ensues when leadership is lacking.

..Down on a day off? That is weird....

In contrast, the personal side of my day was much better. I managed to get a good night's sleep, even though I woke up with serious cramping in my arms and legs. Despite that, I felt well-rested. I was able to push through my morning routine and even tackle some extra tasks on my to-do list. I left the house 15 minutes early to get gas and made myself a delicious double-decker chicken sandwich for lunch. After work, I did some rideshare driving, which was decent for a Thursday night. When I got home, I tried some new ramen and found it acceptable. I wish I could find my favorite volcano Mongolian beef again, but hopefully, that will change soon. For now, I'm experimenting with different options. Since my wife was running behind, I took the opportunity to empty the dishwasher and take out the trash before heading to work. I'm sure she appreciated my help.

Look...

..the big dog......

..Not the boss, his boss.....

Tension filled the air when I arrived at work because my boss was sitting in his car, contemplating the day ahead. I later found out that this tension was due to his supervisor being in the store, along with others. Everyone was walking on eggshells, creating an extremely tense atmosphere throughout the afternoon. Once that drama passed, things settled down a bit, but not entirely. The entire night was running behind schedule, and it was exceptionally busy. Government funding had decreased for the month, leading many people to take advantage of the situation. We experienced bursts of activity where the lines backed up halfway down the aisle, followed by quieter periods that felt like a ghost town. This pattern continued for hours.

I did my best to stay calm, even though I felt anxious. I spoke to Joshua about my intent to seek a position change in October, and he was very supportive. He even offered to talk to someone at Hwy. 64 about it. That store can be quite challenging, much rougher than Hickory Hill, but it's a super center. I'm surprised that Josh is supportive of this kind of move since it would involve transferring to a different market. We'll see what develops.

..Brain! Off! NOW!....

I find myself pressed for time lately, juggling my hectic schedule and running rideshare services after my day job. Yet, amid the chaos of working at Walmart and navigating the evening streets, I often find my mind wandering into the depths of contemplation. It's a peculiar sensation; having too much time to think can be a burden, especially when the thoughts swirling around are anything but comforting.

One particular worry occupies my mind: a missed call from Phil, residing in North Carolina. The potential for this situation to spiral out of control weighs heavily on me, and I am determined to avoid that outcome at all costs. Phil was married to Jennifer, a vibrant soul who left this world far too soon, passing away five years ago on Thanksgiving. Our shared history is tangled; complex and often unresolved. In a twist of fate I couldn't anticipate, Jennifer chronicled some of our youthful exploits in her journal, an innocent relic of a simpler time.

Following her death, Phil sifted through those pages, drawing conclusions that have distorted the truth beyond recognition. He's a man of strong opinions, steadfast in his beliefs, willing to embrace the narrative he prefers, regardless of its accuracy. I've never contested the significant impact Jennifer had on my life; the bond we shared was deep but never crossed the line into anything physical. It pains me that I can't seem to make Phil see this; his stubbornness clouds his judgment.

As I reflect on the situation, I acknowledge that I need to let the memories rest. I suspect Phil is reaching out because the anniversary of her death looms near, a painful reminder for both of us, yet the idea of it still irks me. It's hard to shake the annoyance at how easily assumptions can take root and twist the reality of what truly existed between us.

Push through...

..just keep going......

September 05, 2026

..Is too much not enough?.....

Time feels fluid, but right now it's dragging on like molasses. I got started on time, yet I still felt rushed, which was strange. There were a lot of workers present, but by the end of the day, things were still behind schedule. No matter what I do, it feels like I'm just spinning my wheels.

At one point, there were four people standing and talking in the front while there was re-shop to complete and many other tasks to attend to. More than once, during their discussion, I had to step in to assist a customer because they didn't notice the beacon going off. It was really starting to get on my nerves.

On top of that, constant safety warnings kept popping up that no one was addressing, which only added to my frustration. By the end of the night, I was just ready to leave. I did jump on ride-share and got within $1.50 of my goal, but then the opportunities dried up.

..Uno mas....

I'm having a bit of a tough week, but that's okay because I only have one more day left before break. Woo hoo! I'm feeling tired, and to make matters worse, I lost another chip on a tooth, which is causing some discomfort. I'm hoping it resolves soon, but I spent most of the day being very careful about what I ate and drank. Before work, I managed to take care of my morning routine, and when I got home, I decided to experiment with Ramen again. So far, I've liked every one I've tried!

The final day...

..it sounds so ominous......

September 06, 2026

..Sometimes, all you can do is try.....

I wish I could say that today unfolded smoothly, but that would be far from the truth. Instead, it felt like an antiquated, battered machine, long forgotten and left to rust in the corner, each creak echoing the neglect it had endured. Since today was Sunday, I had my dependable closing manager in charge (all sarcasm intended), and the day progressed much as I expected, with its usual mix of tasks and routines.

However, a delightful surprise awaited me: I learned that I had won a safety contest, a stroke of luck that secured me a complimentary lunch. It would have been nice to have been informed about the contest beforehand, yet I suppose some victories arrive unexpectedly, and I chose to embrace this small win with open arms.

In the midst of these daily operations, I received news that my supervisor might be relocating to Jonesboro, Arkansas. Our division has developed a strong camaraderie, and the prospect of such a change looms large; it could potentially disrupt the harmony we've built. The uncertainty of how this shift might affect our team dynamics lingered in my mind.

Despite these hurdles, I persevered through the day, diligently completing all my responsibilities. By the time I wrapped everything up, I felt utterly drained, as though my energy had been siphoned away. I attempted to arrange a rideshare, leaving my beacon on even after returning home, hoping for a ride, yet the requests remained unfulfilled. And so, the evening drifted into quiet normalcy; a typical Sunday night, with all its familiar rhythms.

..Pink Floyd said it best; Thin Ice....

At this juncture, I find it essential to express that my mood has become quite precarious. The new dietary supplements I've recently started taking appear to be impacting my emotional responses, leaving me feeling somewhat on edge and more susceptible to fluctuations in my mood. While I've traditionally managed to navigate various aspects of my life through sheer willpower, I'm beginning to sense that this willpower is faltering. It's becoming increasingly clear that I need to take a step back and reevaluate my processes and strategies, but the pressing demands of time have made this introspection challenging.

As I reflect on the past year, particularly from the beginning to the end of last year, I've noticed a significant decline in my drive and motivation. I can trace this gradual downturn in my enthusiasm back to October of last year, and since then, it has felt like I've been trudging uphill every single day, battling against a constant tide of difficulties. Though I generally try to maintain control over my emotions and actions, it often feels akin to walking on thin ice; fragile and unstable. With the influence of the supplements weighing on me, each day presents a slightly greater challenge to sustain that sense of control.

I've always been aware of an underlying anger that simmers beneath the surface of my calm exterior. This realization aligns with Freud's perspective, which suggests that many individuals grapple with a sense of duality in themselves; I simply choose to acknowledge my own. The situation reminds me of the parable of the two wolves, which conveys a powerful message about the internal struggle between opposing forces within us. If you're not familiar with this parable, I'd be glad to send it to you via email; I prefer not to post it here without knowing whether it might infringe on copyright, despite its historical origins dating back to American Indian culture.

In the past week, I've noticed a marked increase in my awareness of both my surroundings and my own shortcomings. With my birthday approaching, this period feels particularly opportune for reflection. Over the past year, I've undergone substantial changes and have managed to adapt to most of them fairly well. However, there remain a handful of changes that elude my control, and only time will tell how I will eventually navigate these challenges.

I have the next two days off, which presents a valuable opportunity to tackle a considerable list of goals I've compiled. Many of these tasks are physical in nature and will require me to spend time outdoors, while others are intellectual endeavors that will necessitate deep concentration and thought. Among the items on my to-do list is addressing my Walmart benefits, a task I have been avoiding for personal reasons; it's high time I face that head-on. Additionally, I've postponed dealing with issues regarding Network Solutions, as they have proven to be an ongoing source of frustration. The weight of these tasks feels heavy on my shoulders, and there are moments when I simply lack the motivation to confront it all.

Compounding my difficulties are the almost debilitating muscle cramps that I've been experiencing daily. These cramps are becoming increasingly bothersome, and although I have learned to manage them over time, a significant portion of them stems from walking between five and seven miles a day for my job. Interestingly, the cramps that inflict the most pain are related to a personal issue that requires external intervention. Yet again, I find myself precariously balanced on thin ice.

I realize the importance of taking the time to organize my thoughts, and until I can do so effectively, I will continue to navigate this delicate and uncertain situation. On a lighter note, how was that for a Pink Floyd reference? I apologize if it seemed out of place; I've been immersing myself in their music on Spotify lately, and it always manages to resonate with my current state of mind.

Relax, reflect, reset...

..Not nearly as easy as it sounds......

September 07, 2026

..So little time.....

Today marks the beginning of my two days off, a cherished break from my usual routine. As I sit down to reflect on my time away from work, the primary task ahead of me is to review my schedule for the upcoming week. At first glance, this might seem like a trivial responsibility, but delving deeper reveals its true significance.

My work schedule operates in a cyclical pattern that I have grown accustomed to over time. Typically, I enjoy two consecutive days off for a couple of weeks, which is followed by a split workweek that includes just one day off amidst several days of working straight. This rotation has always been manageable for me in the past, and I've learned to adapt to the ebb and flow of work and rest. However, this time around, a sense of unease lingers in my mind as I prepare to check my upcoming shifts. Perhaps it's the anticipation of the unpredictability that comes with the split week, or maybe it's the thought of how quickly my days off can fade away, leaving me to dive back into the rhythm of work. Whatever the cause, the weight of my schedule feels heavier than usual, and I can't shake the feeling that I need to be especially mindful of how I balance my time in the coming days.

..Strange days....

As my birthday approaches, I find myself reflecting on my past, but this year is different. Surprisingly, the familiar deep blue funk that usually engulfs me during this time of year has not taken hold. This time of year has historically been heavy with memories, especially when I think back to when I was just 15 years old. It was a pivotal moment in my life; my exodus from my parents, Marge and Dad.

That fateful decision occurred forty-six years ago. In what I can only describe as an act of courageous rebellion from a teenager's perspective, I made the bold choice to run away from home. My intent was always clear and simple but laden with complexity: I wanted to shield little K from the inevitable consequences of what I felt was a sinister family plan. When little K would come for her final visit of the year, I had every reason to believe that my father would exploit her vulnerability, take advantage of her innocence, and then irresponsibly shift the blame onto me. This scenario would trigger a scandal that would lead to her extremely Irish Catholic family disowning her, leaving her with nowhere to turn except to her sister, Marge, and my father; both of whom would take her in, leading her to a world of sexual servitude. In retrospect, it's a sick and twisted chapter of my past, yet it has always stood as my first act of bravery as a young adult grappling with morally complex situations.

The reason little K visited so frequently was due to the strained family dynamics that Marge and Dad had convinced the Philadelphia family would be beneficial for both of us. This bizarre arrangement continued for almost four years, and while I could write a book about it, my autobiography is still a work in progress. Typically, this time of year sends me spiraling into intense reflection, haunted by the memories of that pivotal moment nearly 45 years ago. But this year, I did not find myself drowning in contemplation until just the last couple of days.

Over the past year, I've noticed significant mental growth within myself, and after four decades, I feel that I've come to terms with most of this emotionally turbulent history. Part of my healing process has been tackling a backlog of unresolved feelings. I've devised a method that involves selecting a specific portion of my past and dedicating three days to deep meditation on that timeframe. Once I've completed that meditation, I hold myself accountable; validating that I am not embellishing the memories for my own comfort. Then it goes into this blog for the appropriate year.

During these sessions, I explore the myriad options that were available to me at the time and contemplate whether there were any actions I could have taken differently. I consider what outcomes those different choices might have led to. In the case of little K, I found myself drawn to this meditation even though it fell outside of my usual cycle of reflection.

In my heart, I believe that even if I had chosen a different path, I would likely still have faced severe consequences; perhaps even jail time for what would amount to patricide in a desperate act against the injustices I perceived. Once the events of that period are finally recorded, my statement will undoubtedly resonate more deeply. Suffice it to say that my choices were either to embark upon my unplanned escape from this toxic atmosphere or to commit an act of extreme violence. In hindsight, if I had taken the latter path, perhaps I'd be out of jail by now, but my life would undeniably have unfolded in a drastically different manner.

The day unfolded with me diligently working my way through an ongoing to-do list, starting with the front yard, which I tended to with a surprising sense of efficiency. Not only did I finish mowing, but I also completed the edging that had been on my mind. However, as I assessed the state of my gardening tools, I realized I needed to add an urgent task for tomorrow: restraining the weed whacker, which had become a frustrating inconvenience.

On a more upbeat note, I took a moment to set up Spotify on my tablet, planning to use it for my sleep music. After an extensive search, I discovered they have a variety of ambient tracks that suit my needs, but I still need to curate a proper playlist.

Next on my list was phase one of the pool maintenance, which was simply about removing the fallen leaves that had been accumulating. I didn't use the vacuum for this task; that chore will have to wait for tomorrow. I also prepped the area by pulling the wings in, gearing up to prepare some nourishing food to fuel the family. My big project for the day involved continuing work on the deck; it's coming along nicely, albeit slowly, as I focus on the details to ensure it will be solid and aesthetically pleasing.

In the late afternoon, I carved out some family time, and the entire bunch spontaneously decided to head over to the Salvation Army. Initially, I was hesitant to join them, reluctant to engage in another round of thrift store shopping, but at the last minute, I changed my mind and tagged along. As the ladies sifted through racks of clothing in search of hidden gems, I wandered through the aisles, looking for something special to call my own.

To my surprise, I stumbled upon some remarkable finds! I walked away as the proud new owner of a stylish jacket, a fantastic pair of boots that I know will shine beautifully once polished, and an inversion table that I couldn't believe was just sitting there waiting for me. The irony of this purchase was not lost on me; I had literally been exploring inversion boots that very morning, seeking a solution for my back issues.

Inversion therapy, while primarily used for physical ailments, also carries a fascinating metaphysical connotation, said to foster creativity and innovative thinking. There's a pseudoscientific notion that changing your perspective through inversion can yield a new way of looking at life, and I'm curious to see how this will affect my mindset moving forward.

I ended the day peacefully, returning home, making a comforting frozen pizza, and reflecting on the events of the day; moments of connection, new treasures, and the gradual processing of my past. Every small victory and revelation brings me closer to a more full and honest existence.

Inevitable...

..this time of year......

September 08, 2026

..Not work, but work adjacent.....

Today, my main focus was going through the Walmart benefits plan. There's a lot of information to sift through, and unfortunately, it often feels like it's based on circular logic, especially regarding health benefits. It's one of those situations where if one statement is true, another must be false, and vice versa. If that sounds confusing, then we're on the same page.

Between my calls to Walmart and Network Solutions, I ended up spending over eight hours on the phone during my day off. I didn't even notice when my phone battery dropped to 4 percent, which was quite alarming. Don't worry; I multitask, so while I was on the phone, I was also browsing websites and doing other tasks. However, I still didn't make any progress with the benefits.

There are various benefits, including health, stock, education, and an overwhelming amount of other information. My mood isn't great, and it feels like I'm fighting an uphill battle. I think once I sit down and discuss it with my wife, it might make more sense.

..I knew it was coming....

Every year around this time, I find myself feeling depressed. This has been a pattern since I was 15 years old, and it usually lasts about 30 days. I know that the root of this sadness stems from childhood trauma, but there's not much I feel I can do about it. This year, the depressive feelings didn't kick in until about the 10-day mark, which I see as an improvement, but that doesn't necessarily make me happy. If depression brought me joy, there would obviously be other issues at play, and I don't think I'm quite there yet.

However, I'm trying to get through it as I usually do, and I believe it will be fine. I spent the day working on issues with Network Solutions and Walmart. I'm not sure I made any progress with Network Solutions, but I definitely didn't get anywhere with Walmart, so I'll have to handle that another day.

In theory, in two or three days, my Network Solutions email address; something that has plagued me for nearly two years; should finally be changed. I managed to bypass the artificial intelligence for assistance and reached a human being instead. We'll see what develops, but I expect the change to be made before my next day off, allowing me to move on to the next step.

I also got outside to work on the deck for a bit, focusing on pulling out nails. There were more nails than I had anticipated, but it's still progress. I'm not sure what the next couple of days will bring, but I only have three workdays left before another day off, followed by a birthday celebration day, even if it is a week early.

Life is boring...

..when you are under the weather......

September 09, 2026

..Little bit oye, little bit vey.....

Although I wasn't feeling well, I jumped right in, hoping for a positive day. I probably should have anticipated the challenges ahead, but here we are. Everything seemed to move slowly, and nothing was getting accomplished despite my efforts. In the end, I surrendered and allowed things to take their natural course. Perhaps tomorrow will be better.

..Embrace the ick....

It's challenging to be a positive force in the universe when you're battling a deep blue funk alongside physical ailments. That's where I find myself right now. No amount of meditation, exercise, yoga, or Tai Chi seems to bring me back to center at this moment. This feeling is something I experience annually around my birthday, and I know it will eventually pass with time.

However, the issue is compounded by a double toothache, muscle aches, severe cramps in my lower body, and a persistent headache. Initially, I thought this could be psychosomatic, but the longer I endure these symptoms, the more convinced I am that there's a physical cause. The symptoms are quite scattered, and I'm unsure exactly what is going on.

Despite this, I managed to drive for Lyft after my trip to Walmart today, and I was pleasantly surprised to find there were rides available. Typically, Wednesday evenings are a dead zone for rides, but not tonight. I could really use a good week.

I am a small boat...

..in a big ocean......

September 10, 2026

..different styles.....

You can really notice the difference in store operations when it comes to various management styles. Today, everything ran very smoothly, which was a positive outcome. There were minimal issues, and the API department made some good catches. Although there are still a few problems to address, they can be resolved in due course. Overall, the evening went smoothly across all phases, and aside from a few busy moments, everything remained calm.

We do have some new employees, and their integration is being managed, for better or worse. One of our biggest challenges right now is with the carts. Despite having two dedicated cart pushers on duty for three hours, we still struggled to keep up. Berry, Eddie, and I have shown that one person can manage the workload, even when things get hectic. This issue will need to be addressed by management. The night concluded calmly and on schedule.

..The physical side....

The physical side of the day was not good. In the morning, I worked on getting things done and was running right on time, even with a short nap, but I was feeling quite under the weather. My teeth, muscles, and head all hurt. So far, nothing I have done has alleviated this problem, so I just had to push through it. When I left Walmart at 10:00 PM, I felt like a drowned rat and had no motivation to do anything. Nevertheless, I turned on my rideshare beacon but was met with disappointment. I received a total of five ride requests, ranging in price from $12.00 to $25.00, but none of them panned out. Each time I got close to the pickup destination, the ride would be canceled. This happened repeatedly, wasting over an hour without earning anything. It was extremely frustrating.

Now, for something completely different. I have tried to keep politics out of this blog this year, at least for the most part. However, there is something I need to address. Mr. Donald J. Trump was at the Republican convention for the midterms today, and he stood in front of the American people, stating that if the Republicans retain the House and Senate in the midterms, he will issue a check for $5,000 to every adult American. His supporters actually cheered this. They seem to have forgotten about $2.00 gas, lower grocery prices, a lack of new wars, Mexico building a wall, private parties paying for the destruction of part of the White House, and his fancy golden-gilded ballroom. Most importantly, they have forgotten about the DOGE and tariff refund checks.

I have tried to understand how more than half of America can continue to be this gullible, and I just cannot figure it out. This entire situation reminds me of an abused spouse. No matter how much you hurt them, if you promise to change, they will stay. It is very cynical, but that is how I feel right now. That man will do anything to remain in power; he just needs to fade away. Unfortunately, I do not see that happening anytime soon. I may do a special entry about all of this later. For now, I need to get through my birthday and into the end of the year. Cooler weather is coming, and I look forward to it.

Finality...

..what a rush......

September 11, 2026

..Bad juju.....

The most frustrating part of my day was trying to do my job properly. Everything had been going smoothly until I discovered that our housekeeper was filling in for our security guard. When I questioned her about it, she admitted that she was just following orders from our General Manager and Operations Manager. I decided to report this to the head of the asset protection division. As a result, there is now significant tension between me and the housekeeping staff, and I don't think this issue will resolve anytime soon. After my shift at Walmart, I managed to do some ride-sharing.

..Just skating through....

The day was work. And there was nothing else. I have not been feeling well, and today was no exception to that. I just pushed through, resting when I could.

Pseudo-birthday...

..a good day......

September 12, 2026

..The easy day.....

Work was simple. All that I had to do today was check my schedule for the next three weeks. It is not a terrible schedule.

..My fake birthday....

The theme for today was a whimsical pseudo birthday celebration. Even though my actual birthday isn't until next Friday, this was the one day when the entire family could gather together without the usual commitments. The morning unfolded peacefully, with the sun streaming through the windows as everyone completed their morning routines at their own leisurely pace. As the clock approached noon, the atmosphere shifted to one of excitement; it was finally time for presents!

Unfortunately, Laura's gift remained trapped somewhere in transit, with an estimated arrival date of early next week. Despite this hiccup, the anticipation in the air was palpable as Willow revealed her surprise for me: a vibrant, colorful bag bursting with goodies. The bag itself was a joyful explosion of color, reminiscent of carnival festivities, but the treasures nestled within were intriguingly more subdued in hue.

Willow had gifted me an entire set of exquisite goth jewelry that took my breath away. The collection included intricately designed multi-tiered necklaces, an assortment of striking rings, and a fabulous desert skull tiara adorned with delicate black roses and cascading fringe. There were even slip-on finger claws that enhanced the edgy aesthetic of the whole ensemble. What do you do when you receive such an incredible gift? You embrace the moment by dressing up and heading out for lunch, of course! I decided to elevate my look by donning my favorite knee-high boots with three-inch heels, embodying the very essence of a gothic overlord.

In contrast, Laura opted for a more bohemian vibe, reminiscent of the hippie era, expressing her unique style through flowing fabrics and earthy tones, while Willow brought her own flair with towering massive purple heels that made her stand out even more. As we stepped out onto the streets, we couldn't help but attract a multitude of curious glances from passersby, which only amplified the fun and excitement of the day.

For lunch, we chose Yaki Bowl, a trendy spot I'd been eagerly wanting to try. The atmosphere was lively, and while the food was decent and met my expectations; offering a fusion of flavors that felt fresh and satisfying; nothing about it particularly stood out as extraordinary. Nonetheless, we enjoyed each other's company and shared laughter as we savored our meals.

After our lunch adventure, we decided to make a stop at Hobby Lobby. We were on a mission to gather some supplies for my expanding goth wardrobe, excited to craft new looks that would showcase my personality. Armed with bags of creative materials, we concluded our outing at the serene Bartlett Japanese Gardens, where nature's beauty provided the perfect backdrop for some memorable photos. I imagined those pictures would eventually find their way into this blog, capturing the essence of our day together.

As the day wore on, I sensed a hint of overstimulation settling in for all three of us. It felt like time to retreat, unwind, and return home to recharge after our busy day. I found comfort in selecting a classic movie from the 1970s to settle down with, while the girls immersed themselves in their own activities. Reflecting on the events of the day, I felt a deep sense of contentment. All things considered, it was a lovely celebration, and to my delight, I still have another day off to look forward to, filled with endless possibilities!

A better day...

..I will take it......

September 13, 2026

..Another easy day.....

The quest for today was to go through the next couple of weeks and make plans for both Walmart and the ride-share. The only real thing today was finishing and double-checking two weeks' worth of bookkeeping. Easy does it.

..Back up that hill....

I am feeling much better today, and the day started off well. After some early morning family interactions, I had a highly productive day. I cleaned the pool and added the necessary chemicals, and I also worked on the deck. I spent some time playing my saxophone and guitar. I had been trying to work with a violin, but the bow finally broke and will need to be replaced. I ended the day by listening to some serious music through my headphones before watching a movie. Overall, I'm counting today as a positive day and am ready to move on.

The good and the bad...

..but it could be the middle......

September 14, 2026

..zombies?.....

Today at work was quite unusual. Everyone seemed very subdued, and there was a noticeable lack of the usual energy. I'm not sure what happened, but people weren't even talking to each other; they were just going through their tasks as if that was all that mattered. I had been off for two days, so I can sense that something has shifted. However, I shouldn't complain because the day went smoothly and there were very few problems.

..Good and bad start at the same time....

I woke up early and smoothly worked through my daily task list, even managing to take an extended morning nap before starting my work. Although I felt well-rested, I still noticed a heaviness in my chest and a tickle in my throat. It's that time of year again, and I'm hoping whatever this is passes quickly. Typically, these illnesses last between three to five days during this season, and I'm not looking forward to dealing with that.

The battle against...

..lethargia......

September 15, 2026

..Push on through.....

As of today, I find myself navigating through life with a sense of detachment, as if I'm merely a traveler passing through. My recent experience at Walmart was notably odd. The atmosphere felt unusually subdued, with most people moving about quietly, but I did notice subtle changes; small breaks in the monotony. It seemed as though some individuals are making an effort to reclaim a sense of normalcy, yet the underlying tension suggests that something significant had occurred recently; I still haven't pieced together the full story, but it's clear that it was something serious.

A noteworthy factor affecting my environment right now is the return of many young people to school after what I can only assume was a lengthy hiatus. This shift has brought about a tangible change in the workforce. A few of our dedicated team members at the front end are now attending classes during the hours they would typically be working, forcing them to rearrange their schedules. Unfortunately, this has left us grappling with staffing shortages that can be frustrating when the customer flow picks up.

Despite these challenges, the day turned out to be relatively smooth. There were no major obstacles that we couldn't handle, which I suppose is a blessing in its own right. I'll take it as a small victory, considering the current circumstances.

..Go ahead universe, annoy me....

The irritations of modern life seem to be bombarding me from multiple fronts lately. This morning, I found myself grappling with unexpected updates to several of my artificial intelligence programs. The companies behind these applications released new versions without any prior notice or guidance, leaving users like me in the lurch. As I launched my daily suite of programs, I was taken aback by the abrupt changes in the interfaces. Features that I had grown accustomed to had vanished, and even the ones that remained were now hidden behind convoluted menus that took considerable time to navigate. This entire ordeal consumed a frustrating hour of my morning, and despite my efforts, I didn't manage to resolve everything before I had to shift my focus to work. Nonetheless, I've jotted down a few potential solutions and areas to investigate further.

My troubles didn't end there, unfortunately. On my way to work, I was met with another unwelcome surprise: gas prices surged by an alarming 30 cents overnight. It seems the administration is quick to assign blame elsewhere, shirking responsibility for a situation that they have, in many ways, exacerbated. We are now paying this inflated price under the guise of an effort to combat perceived threats from socialists and communists purportedly trying to seize control of the nation. Ironically, many of those in power who proclaim the urgent need to resist these threats often display a surprising ignorance, struggling to even define or spell the terms "socialist" or "communist." Their increasingly desperate attempts to cling to power reflect an awareness that their influence is waning, and their actions seem to be a frantic effort to delay the inevitable decline. It's incredibly disheartening to witness. If only they had chosen a leader with at least a modicum of common sense, perhaps we wouldn't be in such a predicament. However, any significant changes would necessitate an admission of their own missteps, which seems highly improbable.

I must apologize for airing my grievances like this, but the situation has reached a level of absurdity that I can no longer ignore.

The rise and fall...

..it must be opposite week......

September 16, 2026

..Calm until it wasn't.....

I began my day expecting a typical, calm work environment, but it quickly became clear that those expectations were far from reality. As soon as I stepped through the doors of the store, I was greeted by our general manager, who bore an expression that mixed urgency with determination. She informed me that we were just moments away from a surprise inspection conducted by a significant delegation of corporate representatives; 15 members in total, all evaluating us.

With little time to prepare, I hurriedly assumed my assigned responsibilities, which involved managing safety alerts and overseeing a thorough cleanup of the store. I darted back and forth, ensuring that safety protocols were visible and that any clutter was cleared before the inspectors' arrival. It was a high-pressure situation, but I could feel the adrenaline fueling my focus.

After what felt like an eternity, the inspection came to a close. Although the results weren't immediately clear, I noted the general manager's demeanor as she exited the meeting; she had a broad smile on her face, which I took as a reassuring sign that we had performed well under pressure.

However, as the day unfolded, the pace didn't let up. The real work began as we continued to tackle various tasks around the store to maintain our high standards. Just when I thought the challenges were behind us, we faced another unsettling situation. Toward the end of the day, I noticed police activity outside the store due to an incident that had taken place earlier that morning, before I had even arrived. My concern grew when I learned that one of our own employees had been caught stealing, an incident that would lead to disciplinary action.

All in all, this was not the calm week I had anticipated; it was filled with unexpected challenges, rapid responses, and a rollercoaster of emotions.

..Still under the weather....

Today, I dedicated time to self-care. I slept longer in the morning than I had planned, but I needed the extra rest. Throughout the day, I pushed through despite my symptoms, which are still present. I'm trying to shake off a summer cold, but it's becoming quite irritating. It should clear up in the next day or so, and I can't wait for it to be over. There's a lot happening right now, and I need to get to a place where I can write about it.

The calm...

..but is there a storm?......

September 17, 2026

..Uneventful.....

I am feeling my age, but thankfully, work was calm, for the most part. There were no serious issues and we were heavily staffed for the day. I pushed through the day with no incidents and even ran ride-share after Walmart. I told myself that I was going to relax this week, and so far, that is happening.

..Time stalls....

Morning was mundane, work was mundane, after work was mundane. I think I am sensing a theme. I did not get ahead and I did not fall behind. More days like this would be nice. I am still fighting some tooth issues and I am still feeling under the weather, but for right now, I am handling it.

It is my party...

..But nah, I will not cry, even if I want to......

September 18, 2026

..Floating through the day.....

Today marks a special milestone; my birthday! I didn't expect much from the day, but I was pleasantly surprised. As soon as I walked into the store, the general manager greeted me with enthusiasm, dancing and shouting "Happy Birthday!" loud enough that the entire store took notice. His infectious energy set the tone for the rest of the day, and I quickly found myself the center of attention, enduring a string of lighthearted old age jokes from coworkers and cheerful "Happy Birthday" wishes echoing around me.

What made this birthday even more surprising was how well the day unfolded despite some initial chaos. Just yesterday, we had been incredibly overstaffed, but today, it was a completely different story—we were severely understaffed. I braced myself for a hectic day, but to my delight, everything ran surprisingly smoothly. I made it a point to stay vigilant about safety alerts, and thankfully, we didn't experience any serious incidents. However, there were a few moments of excitement when about a dozen customers tried to sneakily grab items, like a whole chicken or a case of water, but nothing too unusual occurred to disrupt the rhythm of the day.

As the hours passed and the store quieted down toward the end of the night, I started to feel a little bored. I decided to take action and came across an abandoned Top Stock cart filled with an assortment of candy. Seizing the opportunity, I spent nearly an hour meticulously sorting through the items, organizing them, and ensuring each candy type found its proper place at the front end of the store. By the time I finished, I was proud to see the candy display looking vibrant and inviting, though I did manage to set aside three boxes that didn't quite make it to the shelves.

As my shift came to a close, I clocked out right on time, satisfied with my efforts. I checked the rideshare app, and it seemed like a busy night for drivers, which can be a nice little bonus. However, I was feeling under the weather and decided it wouldn't be wise to take the wheel. It was a disappointment, but I've resolved to own it and take the time I need to recuperate. Overall, it was a memorable day, filled with unexpected joy and a few sweet surprises along the way.

..Another year gone....

I find myself at a crossroads, where I must reluctantly acknowledge that my youth is slipping away, yet that realization won't deter me from my relentless battle against the passage of time. This morning, I greeted the day with reluctance, the weight of my bed luring me back into its comforting embrace. I shuffled through my morning routine, a series of mundane tasks that felt more like a chore than a ritual, and ultimately succumbed to the allure of rest for a couple more hours. In hindsight, I believe that decision was wise. Although my to-do list remains untouched, I've learned to accept that it's okay to take a step back when needed.

Starting this Sunday, I'm determined to revamp my daily regimen. On the days when I clock in at Walmart, I plan to dive into the world of rideshare driving, opening new avenues for my financial stability. It's time to seize control of my economic destiny and confidently declare, "tally-ho!" After battling a lingering illness, I sense that I'm finally turning the corner. Though remnants of that sickness cling to me, I am beginning to regain my strength.

Tomorrow holds the promise of a cinematic adventure; however, at this moment, my enthusiasm is waning. I'll have to gauge my energy and mood when morning comes. After a long day at work today, I was besieged by waves of nausea and dizziness, prompting me to forgo driving for Lyft. While I might question that choice later, at this very moment, it feels like the right decision. Tomorrow is a blank slate, ripe with potential.

Rest...

..But not nearly enough......

September 19, 2026

..Move along, nothing to see.....

My workday involved double-checking my schedule to ensure I understood what was coming up in the week ahead. Since I had the day off, I used it as an opportunity to reset. There's a lot going on at work right now, and it's affecting me in various ways, not all of them positive.

..Reset the year....

And away we go! Yesterday was my birthday, which means it's time to reflect on life as it is. I didn't come close to meeting my goals for the year, and that's very disappointing.

Today, Laura and I were supposed to go to the movies, but we decided against it. Things are a bit too hectic right now, and I'm still not feeling 100% myself, so there are things that need to be done.

Even with the excessive heat, I braved the direct sunlight and took care of the front yard. It looks pretty good, and I even did some weed whacking. However, it really drained my energy.

I was also able to move the servers on Network Solutions, which might have caused a disruption you noticed. I continued watching the series *Grimm* and I'm now in the final season.

All things considered, it was a generally relaxing day, and I'll take it. Tomorrow begins my new routine, and it's going to be a challenge. More to come on that, so stay tuned!

Boring...

..an actual boring day......

September 20, 2026

..Nada, nothing, ziltch.....

I don't get to say this very often lately, but work was boring. There were no dramas, not even anyone attempting a bottom-of-the-basket walkout. We had ample coverage and very little to worry about, other than running low on bags. As far as days go, this was interesting only because it was lacking in excitement.

..The new routine....

It may take a couple of days to settle into my new routine, but so far, things are going well. My morning went smoothly, and I even managed to fit in yoga, Tai Chi, exercise, and meditation. This put me in the perfect state of mind for the day ahead. I worked through my morning list without any hiccups, which is unusual for me. I'm pleased with that. The workday was fine and uneventful, and I even drove for Lyft, earning about $45. If you've been paying attention, you'll know that this is an unusually high amount for a Sunday night; typically, my earnings between Sunday and Monday are zero. Hopefully, tomorrow will be just as good; that would be nice.

And the rebound...

..far from boring......

September 21, 2026

..Police, and products, and bag, OH MY!!!.....

I should have recognized that yesterday was the calm before the storm, and today, the storm hit. When I arrived at the store, the police were already there. My supervisor had to fire someone, and it did not go well. There was violence, threats, and all kinds of chaos. The process took more than four hours before the person was finally gone.

But that was just the beginning. I found a total of seven baskets throughout the store that were supposed to be re-shopped but had been abandoned. I brought them all to the front, organized them by zones, and ended up handling them myself. Once they were separated, it took a total of 90 minutes, but it's finally done.

Another annoyance was the lack of bags. We started to run out yesterday, and by this morning, we had completely run out. We were scrambling to make do, but we managed to get through the day. All things considered, it was a quick day, albeit filled with frustrations.

..The new routine part two....

I'm settling into my new routine, and it's going well. My cessation program is particularly effective, though I don't feel as energized as I had hoped. However, this is only the second day of the process. I was up on time in the morning, but I still felt a bit rushed. I managed to push through my morning routine and made it to work on time, even stopping to get gas along the way. After my shift at Walmart, I was able to do some ride-sharing, and even for a Monday, I made a little extra money.

I'm keeping an eye on the websites, but I'm not sure if they've moved the servers yet. In three days, I'll check the uploads to see if I can get the new model in place. Before heading to bed, I jumped into a group chat with my friend Amber from North Dakota, which was a nice distraction.

Strange...

..but okay......

September 22, 2026

..Little lost person.....

The excitement of the day came in the form of a lost woman. For quite a while, she wandered around the store, calling out for her missing husband. Eventually, she sat at the front, waiting for him. We announced over the intercom for customers to check their surroundings, all the while keeping an eye on her as she grew increasingly frustrated. She wandered out to her car, then back inside, and we finally decided to call the local police. It became clear that the woman was not entirely aware of her situation. Her husband had been transported to Saint Francis Hospital hours earlier, and he had the car keys. She was blissfully unaware of this. Fortunately, the local police were able to retrieve the keys and give them to her. We are unsure of what happened next, but everything else for the night was calm, and calm is always good.

..Not quite feeling it today....

Even though I am tired, I do have some extra time. However, I currently lack the motivation to do much. I'm feeling quite unwell, and it's affecting me significantly. Each day is a struggle just to maintain balance. I know that things will improve with time, but right now, it makes me feel unhappy. I did manage to get out and drive for Lyft, and I completed the basic tasks of my daily routine.

Sometimes the world rises...

..and it rises for you, or against you......

September 23, 2026

..A first time for everything.....

There is always a first time for everything, and today was one of those unforgettable days. My encounter with a white supremacist marked a moment I doubt I'll easily forget. It all started when one of our front-end workers didn't immediately attend to him, triggering an angry outburst. When I arrived on the scene, I could hear his derogatory language and insults directed at the young lady who was simply trying to manage her responsibilities. The disdainful tone he used, as if expecting immediate servitude, ignited a deep anger within me. I took a deep breath, counted to twenty in my head, and consciously tried to center myself to avoid reacting aggressively. It quickly became apparent that the day would hold more surprises than I had anticipated.

The real drama unfolded during my lunch break. The weather outside was refreshingly cool—a welcome reprieve from the indoor heat; so I decided not to start my car while I enjoyed my meal. However, as my break came to an end, I thought it prudent to check my vehicle before I headed back to work. To my dismay, the car refused to turn over; the battery was completely dead. I felt a sense of frustration wash over me as I weighed my options. After a moment of deliberation, I made a conscious decision: I would extend my lunch break by an additional 45 minutes and call AAA for help.

When the roadside assistance crew arrived, I initially braced myself for the news that I would need to purchase a new battery. However, to my surprise, they simply jumpstarted my car and diagnosed the problem as corrosion on the terminals, which I felt grateful to know I could handle myself. I felt a sense of relief wash over me, knowing that the issue was manageable and didn't require a more drastic solution.

As I returned to work, a strange sensitivity enveloped me. The bright fluorescent lights overhead seemed more glaring than before, and the cacophony of voices and sounds around me became overwhelming. Before I could even gather my wits, the dreaded sensation of a migraine washed over me, its intensity growing rapidly. For the first time I could remember, I felt compelled to leave work early. The thought of driving for Lyft in my current state felt risky, as I didn't want to endanger not just myself but also my passengers. It was a day filled with unexpected challenges, testing my patience and resilience at every turn.

..Running in mud....

My personal life has taken on an unremarkable rhythm lately, with little to spark excitement beyond the daily grind. Today, the standout moment was my lunch, a vibrant plate of pepper fish that was absolutely delicious and satisfying. Each bite was a burst of flavor that lifted my spirits, making me temporarily forget the stress of the day. However, my joy was somewhat overshadowed by the frustrating car troubles I faced. After leaving work with a pounding migraine, I couldn't help but feel that the day had slipped away without any real fulfillment. It was disappointing, especially since I hadn't accomplished much before heading into the office. Nonetheless, I'm holding onto the silver lining; tomorrow is a day off, and I intend to make the most of it by tackling my to-do list and bringing some much-needed balance back into my life.

I finished watching the series *Grimm*, and throughout the series, I found the writing to be quite good. However, I was very disappointed by the ending because it felt like a lazy climax. In many adventure stories, the antagonist is portrayed as larger than life—superhuman and seemingly untouchable, with no power on earth able to bring them down. Yet, in the final moments, they are often defeated by something simple. In this case, it was just a machete. I apologize for the spoiler, but I feel that this was a lazy choice.

Now that I've finished the series, I need to find something new to watch. I'm considering the 20 episodes of *Foundation*, inspired by Isaac Asimov. It's been decades since I read the books, so even if they follow the narrative of the novels, it will feel like a new story to me.

Time to work on the car...

..not too bad......

September 24, 2026

..Look, the books.....

You have to appreciate the easy days. The only work I had to do was organize the books for the week, which took less than 30 minutes. In the evening, I drove for Lyft and did fairly well. Overall, it was a relaxed day.

..Mostly the car....

Despite feeling tired and moody today, I managed to push through the morning and clean the battery of the car. I believe it's working properly now. I took the time to clean both the inside and outside of the car, then spent the day relaxing until the evening. I worked for about four hours with Lyft before calling it a day.

Sometimes it is okay...

..to be okay......

September 25, 2026

..This is the okay part.....

Sometimes, the best days are the ones when there is nothing unusual to report. My experiences with Walmart and Lyft were mostly uneventful. There were a few minor bumps along the way at both jobs, but overall, that's about it.

..Let's add an owie....

Today, my main focus is on my teeth. I have significant pain on the right side of my jaw, which is hard to manage. It's making me grumpy, and that's never a good thing. This pain limits what I can do, but I'm pushing through until I can find a permanent solution. Unfortunately, that solution will likely involve visiting a dentist, which I'm not looking forward to.

A Change of pace...

..with something new......

September 26, 2026

..Ah, the plants.....

It was a notably intriguing day, filled with unexpected challenges and collaborative problem-solving. Early in the morning, just as my shift was beginning, I noticed a troubling situation unfolding: the vibrant garden mums that had just arrived were wilting and fading before our eyes. It quickly became apparent that the delivery came without any accompanying instructions or support medium, leaving us in a bit of a bind. To make matters worse, we were left without a hose, effectively sealing our fate when it came to watering these delicate plants. The front of our store, where the mums were displayed, lacked a proper water connection; the faucet was a frustrating, handle-less contraption that required a specialized tool to operate.

Determined not to let these beautiful plants perish, I rallied with my co-workers, CJ and Kelly, to brainstorm a solution. In a stroke of ingenuity, CJ found one of the hoses from our inventory and decided to purchase it for the store, a generous move that set our plan into motion. After some trial and error with the tricky water connection, we finally managed to innovate a way to turn on the water and give the garden mums the hydration they desperately needed.

With my involvement in this rescue mission, it seems I have now unwittingly taken on the responsibility for the ongoing care of these plants. Though it adds another layer to my already expanding list of daily tasks, I'm ready to embrace the challenge with my usual enthusiasm and commitment. The rest of the day progressed without any major incidents, marking my second consecutive day of relative calm during my shift. While a tiny seed of anxiety planted itself in my mind about this unusual stretch of tranquility, I remain hopeful that the peaceful flow continues.

..Wrong concentration....

I continue to focus on my teeth and the pain they are causing me, but I was able to achieve my goal for the ride share this week. I try to push the pain out of my mind, but occasionally I find it hard to forget. I have a couple of days off coming up, and I'm really looking forward to them. I have a lot to accomplish during that time, and hopefully, I will be able to take my mind off things for a while.

A new soap opera...

..**As the stomach turns**......

September 27, 2026

..Drama to the left, drama to the right.....

Today's work experience felt profoundly more significant than just a routine job; it ventured into the complexities of personal life in a way that was almost theatrical. While it's not uncommon for work environments to occasionally overlap with our personal challenges, today had the distinct vibe of a soap opera.

One of my colleagues, a vibrant woman who should be glowing with excitement over a pregnancy, was visibly overwhelmed. She's navigating the myriad challenges that come with expecting a child, and today her anxiety seemed palpable. There was an urgency in her voice, as she expressed her fears about the health of her baby and the multitude of uncertainties that loom over expectant parents. Her worry cast a shadow over the day, making it hard to focus on tasks at hand.

Meanwhile, another colleague faced an unexpected disruption when her menstrual cycle made a surprise appearance. She was caught completely off guard, lacking the supplies she desperately needed. The situation spiraled into a small crisis, with the chaos causing quite a scene in the break room. Unfortunately, when she sought assistance, management's response was shockingly unsympathetic; their dismissive attitude only exacerbated the stress she was already under.

Adding to the tumult, we had a third employee known for her prickly temperament. She clashed with the colleague who was dealing with her menstrual mishap, resulting in an unexpected and heated confrontation. It was disheartening to watch as tensions escalated rather than diffused, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere for the rest of us.

On a personal note, I was struggling too; my tooth had been throbbing with pain throughout the day, making me increasingly irritable and fatigued. Despite my discomfort, I managed to push through, thankful that our interactions with customers were largely uneventful and the night shift ran relatively smoothly.

However, the drama didn't end there. Once I finally wrapped up my shift at Walmart and headed out, I discovered that there were no available rides on Lyft, forcing me to call it a night on a frustrating note. Reflecting on the day, I realized it had been a whirlwind of emotions and events, far beyond the everyday grind; a narrative that felt more like something plucked from a poorly crafted pulp novel.

..Uno mas....

The personal aspect of my day turned out to be quite fascinating. One of the standout moments came when a spark driver asked me to hold her high-tech meta glasses while she attended to some personal matters. With a friendly grin, she insisted I could try them out, and I couldn't resist the invitation.

As I slipped the glasses onto my face, I was struck by how much I had underestimated their significance. The model she owned was top-of-the-line, and I could feel the advanced technology enveloping me. These glasses seemed to do everything, and I found myself genuinely astounded when, just as I was leaving work on break, a passerby engaged me in Spanish. To my utter amazement, the glasses translated their words in real time, allowing me to follow the conversation seamlessly. It was nothing short of incredible!

Later that evening, when I settled in at home, I couldn't help but look up these futuristic glasses online. I discovered they carry a hefty price tag of around $500. While I could see their value, indulging in such a luxury isn't on my agenda anytime soon.

Outside of that remarkable experience, my day unfolded in a mostly routine manner. I enjoyed a leisurely morning that allowed me to sleep in a bit longer than usual. I prepared a steaming hot lunch to take to work, feeling satisfied as I checked off each item on my to-do list throughout the day. As evening approached, I finally had the chance to unwind, turning the day into a decent experience overall. However, lingering tooth pain served as a gentle reminder that I need to schedule a dentist appointment soon. Thankfully, with some proper pain management, I've managed to keep it under control for now.

When you start out in hell...

..CLIMB!......

September 28, 2026

..That was fun.....

As I stepped into the store this morning, I wasted no time diving into the day's challenges. Our front end was a chaotic whirlwind, severely understaffed with several team members calling in sick. Within a mere 15 minutes of my arrival, I found myself the lone soldier at the registers, as my colleagues inexplicably abandoned their posts.

Determined to provide excellent service and keep our customers satisfied, I sprang into action, flipping on all the registers. To my surprise, everything began to flow seamlessly, like a well-oiled machine. Customers were checked out efficiently, and even the general manager, typically reserved in his praise, was visibly impressed. This small victory meant a lot to me.

The remainder of my day felt like a constant game of whack-a-mole, as I scrambled to address various issues around the store. I navigated safety alerts with urgency, swiftly removing products that posed risks from the shelves. At one point, I had to enlist the help of one of our Spanish-speaking employees to assist a distressed customer whose issues required a more nuanced approach.

Throughout the day, I faced several attempts at theft. I watched as a group of individuals tried to conceal items beneath their shopping baskets, hoping to evade detection. One bold customer even locked eyes with me as they nonchalantly slipped a candy bar into their pocket, a blatant act of theft that made my heart race.

Despite the mayhem, everything managed to fall into place by day's end. It was undeniably a hectic experience, and as I clocked out, I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of accomplishment. Now, with the next two days off on the horizon, a wave of relief washed over me!

..Ah, the calm to come....

Today was the last day before two days off, so I did my best to take everything in stride. I remained calm and kept my eyes on the goal. The morning went smoothly, and for lunch, I had pepperfish. When the evening came, there were no rides available on Lyft, so I went straight home. I treated myself to some celebratory burritos and enjoyed my evening.

Now this was a productive day...

..seriously......

September 28, 2026

..Love those easy days.....

The first day off from work is usually straightforward. My main task is to handle the paperwork for the week, and since I stayed on top of it throughout the week, I only need to total everything up today. So, I'll consider today an easy workday.

..Now, this was a PUSH....

Today felt like a whirlwind, a rocket sled racing along the rails of my routine. I woke up in a dense fog of frustration; the kind of mood that makes every interaction feel like an uphill battle. Despite the heaviness in my chest, I pushed through the morning, determined to harness the chaos swirling within me. Breathing in the crisp morning air, I knew I had to escape the confines of my home and set my sights on accomplishing as much as I could.

I first ventured to Gordon's Grocery, where the fluorescent lights buzzed above the aisles. There, I picked up two bags of shrimp, hoping I'd selected the right ones for the family dinner later. The anticipation of a meal filled with fresh seafood was a minor silver lining to my day. My original plan was to visit the Goodwill in Bartlett, but as I cruised up Union Ave., a thought struck me; there was a Goodwill downtown just a few blocks away. I detoured and stepped into the store, the familiar scent of thrift wafting around me. Among the racks, I discovered a stunning pair of sandals with four-inch platforms that felt like they were meant for me. Just moments before, I had faced the temptation of some eye-catching thigh-high boots; though pricey, their allure was undeniable.

As I made my way to the register, a well-crafted cutting board for clothes-making caught my eye, oozing potential for future projects that would soon fill my home. I couldn't resist adding it to my finds and then headed over to fill my car with gas. Once back at home, I noticed that while my mood still lingered in the shadows, I was at least in a better place mentally.

With determination, I delved into outdoor chores next. I replaced the chemical tablets in the shimmering blue pool, vacuumed its bottom until it gleamed, and skimmed the surface to remove the debris dancing atop the water. That task marked the end of this week's pool maintenance. Moving on to the deck, I focused on dismantling several more boards, inching closer to our rebuilding phase. I briefly considered driving for rideshare, but the heat map projected a dreary emptiness, so I pivoted back to my yard work. I toiled on the front flower bed, though my mind was somewhere else entirely. I laid the groundwork for next spring's garden, prepping the soil—a lengthy endeavor that would take weeks to perfect.

After some time, even with my trusty headset blasting heavy metal, I reached a point where my energy fizzled out, and I decided outdoor work could wait until another day. In a surprising burst of productivity, I cleaned off my primary desk, tackled the secondary one, and even took a moment to address my tertiary desk, reclaiming my space entirely. On a roll, I moved to the kitchen, scrubbing surfaces including the ever-neglected air fryer. I cleared the upstairs bathroom of the weekly clutter that accumulated like forgotten memories, then set my sights on the home office, where I meticulously purged every single download that had been piling up, data swirling like fallen leaves.

As I waited for files to transfer, I flicked through two magazines that had sat neglected, their pages yellowing with time. After tackling chores both mundane and satisfying, I treated myself to a crisp shave for both my face and head, feeling fresher than before. Yet, as evening wrapped around me, an unsettling sense of incompletion lingered. I settled in for a show from 2017, *Emerald City*; a dark and intriguing retelling of The Wizard of Oz that pulled me in like a storm. I found myself captivated yet still alert enough to reach out to Network Solutions for assistance. I resolved both website issues, and with the SSL installed, I planned for full access by morning.

Despite the cloud of darkness hanging over me, I decided to count the day as an undeniable success.
