Welcome to The Journey

An open book journey of Christopher William Klein

Greetings: August passed by like a bat out of hell. It still feels like just last week was the first week of the month and here we are in September. It was a rough month on many levels, but now we are moving on. And this is my birth month. You can see from the images for the month that I have plenty of new filters and the assets for my software. I am hoping to get into oil painting again very soon. For now, digital will have to do.

A good start...

..I will take it....

September 01, 2025

Long but good...

I was pensive about the start of this week because it starts out with Labor Day. Holidays with Uber can be precarious. However, this time there was nothing to worry about. For the past couple of weeks, I have been running between $50 and $80 down at the start of the week, and then I have to play catch-up. I ended today only $18.00 down. So I'm going to count today as a perfect day, even though the people were a bit grumpy. Hopefully, this will hold through the week.

Good, but guarded....

The week started out well. I slept well, even though I had a bit of phantom pain in my teeth. It was a toothache that I couldn't identify as such. It was a bizarre situation, but hopefully it will get better. I was up on time and even had time to clear out the next section of Ancient. I worked through the day, and I am neither running ahead nor falling behind. When I got home, I made myself a comfort meal of grilled cheese and tomato soup. With that as hot as it is, it was a weird choice, but it made me feel better. I am comfortable with the start of the week, but I am still very guarded because there's still plenty of time for things to go wrong. However, I refused to be a pessimist, at least for now.

Roll baby...

..roll....

September 02, 2025

Perhaps...better?...

It was a very long but productive day, and I caught up to the goal for the week. That is something that I have not been able to do in the past couple of weeks, until Thursday or Friday rolled around. Last week, I did not catch up to the week's goal until Saturday morning. With a little bit of luck, this trend will hold. I checked Lyft, and they are offering the challenges again, which means that drivers are down. Usually, Uber followed suit about a week after Lyft started the challenges. Maybe this is an omen of things to come.

When it comes to the riders, they have been pretty much mundane lately. Those who have wanted to talk have been wanting to discuss politics, and believe it or not, that is the topic I am avoiding. It drains too much energy. But this afternoon, for my final ride, I picked up a young lady from down on Mud Island who had to go to the urgent care. She was a worker on one of the riverboats. She was delightful even though she wasn't feeling well, and carried an air of calm around her. Since her PR person ordered the ride, I don't even know what her name was. But she was a charming riding companion. She was not even upset that it took 1/2 an hour to find her because when they ordered the Uber, they put in the wrong location. It is good to see that there are good people in the world. Or at least those that come across as good people.

Rolling along well....

I did some more work on Ancient before I went to work in the morning, and then it was a routine but productive day. When I got back to the house in the afternoon, I decided I was going to break with my routine and watch a movie in the middle of the week. I chose "Final Destination" because it is something that has been on my list for quite a while. I can't say that I am a fan, mainly because it was highly predictable, but it leaves me wondering if I want to watch the four sequels. That is something I will figure out later.

On the personal front, I am dealing with a toothache that is quite unusual. I can't say that it actually hurts, but it is making itself known. I have a feeling that this may be due to sinus pressure. The weather has been changing and moving toward fall, and I feel that that is going to have a bit of an effect on my sinuses. By the time I got out of work, it was tolerable, and I was good to go. I'm feeling drained today, but when I lay down to go to sleep, I was wide awake. I hate it when that happens.

One quick side note is that my birthday is this month. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed as I turn 60 years old. I know that it is just a number, but it makes me reflect on different aspects of my life. I am now older than either of my parents when they died. But that doesn't really mean anything because my grandfather lived to be 104 and my grandmother lived well into her 90s. And I am a far cry from Harry and Marge, or even Eleanor. In case you haven't read the previous blog, it would be about the father, the stepmother, and the mother. To the best of my knowledge, Marge is still alive, and that puts her well into her 70s. And she was the most evil of all of them. But I'm not going to dwell on that right now.

A final note on this week in September specifically. I am two weeks away from my anniversary. Not a wedding anniversary or anything like that, but the anniversary of a promise that will not be kept. Long ago, I had a friend. She remained my friend for my entire life, until she was taken across the Rainbow Bridge about 3 years ago. When we were very young, we made a promise. On the 17th of September, just before my 60th birthday, if I were unmarried and she were unattached, we would consummate our lives together. It sounds ridiculous. However, you have to understand that I was one of the few males who did not have her. She was a prostitute, she was a whore, and she was a nymphomaniac. And she was my best friend. We made a pact not to touch one another until 2025. We held to that pact. It would not have mattered if she were still alive because I am happily married, and so was she. But it would have made an interesting conversation. I have lost many friends in my lifetime, and I rarely think of any of them. But I do think of Jennifer and then. And this is one of those times.

Something good...

..for a change....

September 03, 2025

Now, this was decent...

The day started as usual, and then it exploded. It was back-to-back runs that were nice and tightly spaced, and going long distances. That pretty much continued, with a series of reserved runs, until the end of the school day at 9:00 AM. After that, I got a rider who had to go to West Memphis, AR, and they spent the next 5 hours over there. It looks like a lot of our Arkansas drivers are missing in action. I just continued to push through until I ran out of time. The only annoying thing about running in West Memphis, AR, is the trains. Three separate tracks roll trains through the area on and off. I got stuck behind a train multiple times, and it wasted a lot of time. However, at the end of the day, I was more than $50 ahead for the week, and I will take it.

Feeling okay....

When the day started, I was skeptical about how things were going to be. I was running behind, and I was feeling very forgetful. But once I got into motion at work, things seemed to take a straighter line, and it was a pretty good day. I even had time to read my book while I was waiting for riders on those rides that had multiple stops. By the end of the day, I was up by more than $50.00 for the day and the week, I'm feeling pretty good. I got home exhausted, but feeling positive. I will take it. Because I was getting home almost 3 hours later than usual, I ate dinner, watched my show, and was off to the land of Morpheus. I could use two more days like today this week.

On a completely different note, I am just over 2 weeks away from my birthday. I hate my birthday. It puts me in a very negative mindset, and it is just another day. I would ignore it if I could, but I've tried that before, and it just puts me in a darker place. I've been trying to think of something amazing that I could do for my birthday, and I can't think of the damn thing. I briefly considered requesting a spa day. But I think that is one indulgence that I don't think I could do because I would feel guilty afterwards, since it would be a waste of time and money. But right now, everything seems like a waste of time and money. I am flip-flopping, and it's getting on my nerves.

To add another note to this Symphony of weirdness, I am running ahead enough that I might be able to take Saturday off. If I can take Saturday off, I fully intend to use the morning time before everybody is in motion to finish out chapter 5 of the novel. If I can get that dog on a chain, I think that things will improve with my writing. It feels like some epic battle that is being fought solely within my head. But maybe this weekend, I can slay the beast.

Good...

..then not so good....

September 04, 2025

It is a service industry...

I had to keep reminding myself today that ride-sharing is a service industry. Before I even started the day, I had set up a series of reservations that we're going to make that day. That all got blown out of the water when I picked up a couple and their baby, who we're going to rent their first home. The way that they pinned the run, each of the five stops was offset by about 500 feet. Because of this, the timer did not initiate at each stop for the wait time. And boy, was their wait time. They conducted all their business to finalize the sale, with me sitting and waiting. That includes their final inspection of the house. A young, excited couple. That I could forgive, the biggest issue was their communication. They literally believed that they were being driven around by Whitey, and they had no restrictions on pointing out that they were the children of slaves, and it was good to be on the other end of the whip. I kept my composure and I kept my mouth shut the entire time. But at the end of the ride, they got one star and were marked off as disrespectful. The ride completely ruined the day because it was $20 for three hours. It did not put me behind, but I am not as far ahead as I was.

Moody, pfft....

Before work, I did a significant amount of work on the ancient site, and I was out and running right on time. I had to make a note to myself to ensure that I get an oil change this weekend, as I am overdue. You can see above that it was a crappy day at work. It felt splendid to get home, but I was in a nasty mood. I took the time to put the new pool vacuum into the pool, and it failed miserably. I tried three times, and it would do nothing but go to the edge and sit there. I managed to pull it out and set it aside, and I will deal with it this weekend.

Since the ladies ran out in the afternoon, I had some time to myself, so I grabbed my guitar and did a little strumming. I would have banged the drums, but they are tied up right now. I added to my weekend list that I want to pull out my camping gear and get everything in order. I am well overdue for a camping trip, but it doesn't seem like there's time. There does not seem to be time for anything, and that is not a good thing. On a lighter note, the Mega Millions jackpot is still rolling. It has surpassed $1.7 billion. I believe the next drawing is on Saturday, and I think that I should stop and get a ticket. You have a better chance of being struck by lightning, but somebody is eventually going to win it.

I am currently reading Naked in Death by J.D. Robb. This is my second time through the Eve Dallas series, but I wanted to start again from the beginning since I now own the entire collection. I completely forgot about the nuances of characters such as Mavis and Charles. Robb does quite the introduction for both of them. By the same token, I am forcing the time this weekend to clear chapter 5. I need to go nuclear on this subject, and if I don't clear it, I need to put it to the side and work on something else. I've been having so many problems with this chapter that I'm beginning to think it may be an omen from the universe. I will do my best to clear it this weekend, and if not, it is time for a different project, and Awakening will have to wait.

Winding down...

..is that good or bad?....

September 05, 2025

Oil and goal...

Do you see what I did there? It says 'oil and goal' instead of 'oil and gold'. It was my attempt at humor, and it was a horrible attempt. I pushed through the day and barely hit the goal, and it was time to go get my oil changed. This has been one hell of a week, and it has followed 3 or 4 weeks that were just like it. I am hoping that this trend is about over. It looks like the quality and quantity of rides are improving, but it's not quite there yet. I looked back a year, and this time of year is when they were running all kinds of promotions because of a lack of drivers. It looks like history might be repeating itself, and I believe that is a good thing. For the most part, the riders were uneventful, and I'm going to count this as a calm day.

Indecision....

I'm not sure how to take the day, because I am not in the mood right now. I finished up with the work day, and I went right over to Valvoline to get the oil changed. It was uneventful, and I was back at home ready to relax. I faced some serious indecision when it comes to the weak. I am very much on edge and irritated right now. I've hit the goal for the week, but I am not getting ahead, and that irritates me. I considered not going to work tomorrow, and then I thought about how that would make me feel. Laura reinforced that it might be time to take a mental health day. But I am on the wire about all of this. I chose, instead, to start setting up the weekend and play it by ear when I wake up tonight or tomorrow. I hit the bed nice and early and was off to the land of Morpheus.

The weekend...

..enjoy it....

September 06, 2025

It was a choice...

Occasionally, it is essential to take a mental health day. Today was such a day for me. I should have gone to work, and it would have been very lucrative because it didn't look like there were a lot of drivers on the road. Instead, I made a conscious choice to take the day off, and I vowed to myself that I would not regret it. There are slight pangs of guilt, but as my wife says, I'm going to own this. I channeled my energies into other actions.

Mostly out, Mostly....

The day actually started last night because I was up well before midnight. But some things have been on my list for a very long time, and they have been digging at my craw. One of those is chapter 5 of the novel. I have been trying to edit this chapter for months, and I've gotten nowhere. This morning, I buckled down and got all but two pages of it complete. Those two pages will be finished tomorrow morning, and that will come off my list. The entire process took close to 8 hours, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now.

Now for some fun stuff. I checked the streaming services, and I am behind on some of the stuff that I watch. For instance, the new episode of South Park has been released, and I dropped everything so that I could watch it. It is hilarious, and once again, they are digging into the administration and not holding back. I'm pretty sure that this has great orange frantic because they won't back down. Next, it was on to Wednesday. The end of season 2 dropped, and by the end of the day, I had watched all four episodes. It did not disappoint. They think that they are still getting traction on the storyline, but I'm not sure how long they can keep this up. The storyline played out pretty much as most people would predict, but it was a pretty good adventure. Season 3 has been contracted, but there is no time frame for release. It will probably be sometime in 2026.

Then, it was a great traveling adventure with the ladies. We hit Midtown so that we could go to Gordon's and check the place out. Gordon's is a food service distributor that is open to the public. They pretty much deal with bulk goods. The prices are decent. We grabbed a few items and then continued our adventure. We hit one of the hippie shops, and I got a new hat, and then we had lunch at Babalu's. It was a decent meal, and I chose something off the brunch menu. I chose something completely different for me. Crab cakes Benedict. Spicy little crab cakes with a poached egg and Benedict sauce, Chipotle, and hot oil over breakfast potatoes. It was a complete left turn for me, but it was pretty enjoyable. I never considered that I missed things like eggs Benedict or eggs hollandaise. These are remnants of a previous life, and I never realized that I missed them.

Once we finished in Midtown, we stopped by Mid South Hobbies, where Willow could take a look around, and then on to the Stock Exchange pop-up consignment store. The pop-up store was fascinating in that it looked like an auction house had exploded. Most of the stuff there was very old. Laura found me a very cheap drum, and Willow picked up a heavy plate for some reason. I'm not sure if it was worth stopping for, but it was on our list, and we took care of it. We also checked out one of the new bin stores that was located right next door to the pop-up, but it wasn't particularly interesting. It is possible that we were just no longer in the mood, but I'm outdone on bin stores right now.

The final stop was to pick up lottery tickets, and then it was back home. With a heavy meal for lunch, there was no reason for dinner, and I sat down and watched some more of the backlog of shows before it was time for bed. Tomorrow is another day.

To rest...

..or not to rest....

September 07, 2025

Easy peezy...

OK, maybe it wasn't that easy, but the only thing that I had to do today was do my annual inspection of the Kia and do the bookkeeping. Everything is OK with the car except for the brakes, and those I'm going to have to address very soon. I got through the bookkeeping quickly and was even able to double-check my numbers before the end of the day. With a little bit of luck, I will be able to buckle down this coming week and start getting ahead. That would be nice.

No rest for the weary....

After taking a much-needed day off yesterday, I found myself feeling a bit off-balance today, as though I were scrambling to catch up. The night before, I had woken well before midnight, and instead of tossing and turning, I seized the quiet solitude of the early hours to dive into my writing. With determination, I tackled chapter 5, and I'm thrilled to report that the demon of procrastination has finally been slain! Now, I've shifted my focus to chapter 6, hoping it unfolds more smoothly.

Additionally, I've made significant progress by fleshing out the entire substructure for my ancient project, which feels like another weight lifted off my shoulders. With that completed, all that remains is to validate the information and upload it. It's incredibly satisfying to cross these two significant tasks off my to-do list.

I put the Jeep on the charger first thing in the morning, and it took the better part of the day to get above a 60% charge. I have no idea if that charge is going to hold, but I will check it later this week. I got the structure for the head of the Halloween spider taken care of, and the next adventure is the body. If I can get that done this week, I should be able to assemble those this weekend. I looked around for cheap insulation foam to cook the body, and it looks like Home Depot is going to be the answer. I took care of the chemicals in the pool, and I tried one more time with the pool vacuum, but it was a no-go. That is going to have to be returned, and a different model and brand will be obtained.

The rest of the day was spent doing a lot of updates. I updated all of my 3D software and Photoshop, and that brought down about 200 new filters and assets. I'm going to have to schedule at least four hours, or more, to go through all this material, as it has accumulated over the past nine months. I don't even know what's in there anymore. I still cherry-pick the things I use without really knowing what they are. The only thing I didn't get done on my list was taking the recycling down. I did not remember that until the last minute, and by then it was too late. I will have to take care of that this week or maybe next weekend.

On a personal note, the negative dreams have intensified and become more personal. I find this highly disturbing. Usually, they are like a fictional horror movie, and I can deal with that. Recently, many of them have become like autobiographies. It is making me highly uncomfortable. At the same time, my sleep habits are starting to suffer. If I sleep six hours, I wake up tired and I drag through the day. However, if I sleep 8 hours, I wake up feeling very tired, but from a physical perspective, not a mental perspective. My meditation music isn't helping, and I need to take the time to change it. I think that if I get a better level of delta sleep, things might improve.

One final observation, and I will end this entry on a positive note. My birthday is about 11 days away, and this is usually the point where I am spiraling into a dark chasm where I sit in a corner and stare out into the darkness. This close to my birthday, I am used to severe depression and many other negative emotions. It looks like that's not going to happen this year, and I will take it. It's not the lottery, but it is lottery adjacent. I feel like I have won a prize.

Okay, this I can do...

..maybe....

September 08, 2025

Slow start - good finish...

I started the day feeling rather unimpressed, the morning unfolding with a routine that seemed to drag on. However, as the hours ticked by, things began to take a fascinating turn. Around the midpoint of my shift, I received a peculiar request: a ride for $70 to Oxford from the Greyhound station.

The details of the journey are shrouded in secrecy, as I was informed that the passenger was a sensitive rider. Before I could accept the fare, I was instructed to call a specific number, which intriguingly connected me to Washington. There were strict instructions; no conversation with the passenger, and I had to turn off my dash cam.

While I can't divulge much more about the ride, I can say that this unexpected twist made the day much more rewarding, and I ended my shift well ahead of my expectations.

No good without bad....

As fate would have it, the timing of my final ride left me arriving home much later than I had anticipated. This unexpected delay severely limited my opportunities to tackle the tasks I had planned for the afternoon before retreating to bed. Instead, I found myself sitting in a quiet haze, my mind wandering, punctuated by moments of meditation to regain some clarity. I had aspired to accomplish a lot this evening, particularly crafting the intricate spider decor for Halloween that I had envisioned. Unfortunately, that plan was dashed, but I'm proud to say I've made a solid start to the week. With that foundation laid, I'll just have to see where the days take me.

Not as good...

..but not terrible....

September 09, 2025

A slow push...

Today was a bit disappointing compared to the exhilarating highs I experienced yesterday. Despite my efforts to stay on track, I fell short of reaching my daily goal, which felt like being gradually picked apart by a flock of persistent pigeons. The rides I managed to complete were few and scattered, adding to my frustration as they felt painstakingly distant from one another.

I worked an extended day, investing extra hours in hopes of making up for lost time, but unfortunately, that didn't yield the results I was hoping for. I'm determined to maintain my momentum, as I want to carve out some extra time this weekend to tackle a list of important tasks that have been weighing on my mind. It's crucial for me to get these done so that I can feel a sense of accomplishment and relaxation by the end of the weekend.

Back to that no rest thing....

Just like yesterday, I trudged back home feeling utterly spent. Though I had a bit more time to spare than the day before, it was scarcely enough to make a significant difference. I made the most of those fleeting moments by diving into my weekend task list, which is already brimming with high-priority items. It looks like I'm in for a demanding weekend ahead. Nevertheless, I allowed myself a brief escape by curling up with my current book and savoring another captivating chapter, followed by an episode of my favorite show.

Hells Bells...

..and other silly things....

September 10, 2025

The good, the bad, and the BURNING...

I hit the ground running this morning like a prize racehorse bursting from the gates at the Kentucky Derby. The day started off promisingly; I felt invigorated and was well ahead of my driving quota for the day. As I navigated through Arlington, TN, with a rider comfortably settled in the backseat, I was filled with anticipation for what lay ahead. However, just when I thought everything was on track, disaster struck: the highway heading West ground to a complete standstill.

I was thrown into a waiting game of frustration as I tried to make sense of the chaos unfolding around me. It turned out that a tractor-trailer had veered off the roadway and crashed into the dense woods, resulting in a dramatic fire that consumed the vehicle. Emergency services were dispatched, but it took nearly two hours for the scene to be cleared and traffic to resume. During that time, I could only sit and contemplate the unpredictability of the road, a reminder that no matter how prepared we feel, life has other plans.

Later in the afternoon, I picked up a client who seemed to have an extraordinary talent for forgetting essential items. Our journey was meant to be a simple three-mile run, but it quickly unraveled into a comedic series of mishaps. First, she realized that her purse, an essential accessory, was sitting beneath her the entire time, completely unobstructed yet unnoticed. We made a U-turn to retrieve it, only for her to remember she had left her driver's license at home. After another detour for that, she then realized she had also forgotten her professional identification.

What should have been a straightforward ten-minute drive morphed into an exhausting ninety-minute escapade. Each forgotten item sent us back and forth, diminishing any hope I had of completing my tasks in a timely fashion. By the time I dropped her off at her destination, the entire double fiasco had cost me nearly four precious hours of my day.

While I still find myself ahead for the week, the setbacks have certainly curtailed my progress more than I had anticipated. It's a humbling reminder to always expect the unexpected, even when the day seems to be unfolding perfectly.

A bit of time....

After another grueling day at work, I finally found myself savoring a little much-needed downtime. While I'm not behind on my weekly goals, the progress I've made isn't quite as substantial as I had hoped. So, as I stepped through the door of my home in the early afternoon light, I made a deliberate decision to catch up on everything and prepare for the adventures that await me this weekend.

On my agenda for Saturday and Sunday are a slew of tasks, starting with tackling the brakes on my trusty Kia, a chore that demands not only my attention but also my perseverance. I also need to address both the front and backyards, transforming them into welcoming spaces ready for the fall. Additionally, I'll be checking my camping gear, ensuring that every piece is in prime condition for the great outdoors. Alongside these projects, my usual daily and weekly to-do lists will wait for me, adding to the busy tapestry of my weekend.

The next couple of days promise to be incredibly packed. However, I'm confident that if I can maintain my focus and stay on task, I'll emerge victorious, having accomplished everything I set out to do.

If you've noticed a shift in the tone of my writing, that's the result of careful proofreading. As I revisited my previous entries, I realized that many of my daily reflections were missing an essential spark. While they conveyed information, they often felt flat and devoid of my unique essence. I had fallen into a routine of simply recounting events rather than allowing my creativity to flourish. For those who have had the pleasure of conversing with me face-to-face, you know how passionate I am about storytelling. Unfortunately, my journal entries have not captured that vibrant aspect of who I am. However, moving forward, I am determined to weave that narrative thread into my writing.

Wow...

..the slippery slope....

September 11, 2025

I hate to run late...

This week kicked off on a promising note, full of potential, but it has quickly taken a downturn. Today, I found myself nearly an hour late in getting started, which set a frustrating tone for the day. The most significant issue, however, is that we're back to making lengthy trips for just a brief ride. Don't get me wrong, while the fares for these trips are quite lucrative, the extensive travel is significantly cutting into both my day and my gas budget. I genuinely appreciate the high-paying rides, but when I have to drive thirty minutes just to reach them, I can't help but feel like I'm not getting the best value out of this situation. It's a tough balancing act between earning well and managing time effectively.

Pushing exhaustion....

From a personal vantage point, the morning unfolded in a rather chaotic manner. Fortunately, I was roused from my slumber by the unmistakable presence of my cat, Kitska, who strategically positioned herself right in front of my face. It seemed she had a keen sense of time, aware that I had overslept. As I slowly blinked awake, I caught sight of her intense gaze fixed upon me, and when I failed to respond promptly, she unleashed a piercing caterwaul that pierced the silence of the morning, demanding my attention. It did the trick, and I finally stirred. The rest of the day, however, felt like a fog; I drifted through my tasks, never truly awake. By the time I staggered back home, the weight of exhaustion was pressing heavily upon me. All I could manage to do was sink into a chair and stare blankly, lost in the haze of the day.

No rest...

..for a Friday....

September 12, 2025

One goal, but not the other...

For many, Friday signifies the joyous arrival of the weekend, a time to unwind after a long work week. However, my recent experience has been quite different due to my transition to a six-day work schedule. Today is no exception to this pattern. As I navigated through the day, I managed to stay mostly on schedule and just barely reached my weekly goal. To ensure I can pad the numbers sufficiently, I've decided to head out this evening. Fortunately, I've discovered that Friday nights can be quite profitable, and tonight proved to be no exception.

After wrapping up my first shift, I doubled back to get an early jump on the weekend's activities. The night unfolded pleasantly, filled with the hustle and bustle typical of a Friday evening. Sure, there were some lively passengers; rowdy riders are to be expected on such nights, but that just added to the vibrant atmosphere. I'll save the details of the rest of my adventures for tomorrow, but overall, I'm counting today as a resounding success. As I prepare to head home in the early hours, I'm looking forward to tackling the brakes on the Kia; another task that awaits me when I finally settle in after a long night.

Nothing to see here, move along....

Regrettably, the monotonous and demanding work environment I find myself in has left my schedule devoid of any extracurricular activities for the day. As soon as I stepped through the door this morning, my priority was to nourish my body with a hearty meal before retreating to bed for a much-needed day-sleep, with plans to rise again in the evening. I'm eagerly anticipating the end of the workweek and diving into the much-anticipated task of tackling the brakes on the Kia. It's been quite a while since I've completed a brake job on any vehicle, and I can't help but wonder if I'll still remember the intricacies of the process. This could certainly make for an interesting experience.

On a different note, I'm facing an incredibly daunting to-do list this weekend. With the clock ticking, I know I'll be hard-pressed to check everything off. I got a slight head start by mowing the front lawn, which was a refreshing way to spend some time outdoors, but I still have the side and back yard to contend with, and those tasks are notoriously time-consuming. In addition, I've begun strategizing and prepping my social media accounts for my eventual return to the digital landscape. Although this journal still attracts a considerable number of viewers, it's time to elevate those numbers even further. More details on that venture to come later.

And away we go...

..fun times....

September 13, 2025

No frustration, for a change...

The day held two primary objectives. First, I aimed to meet my weekly financial target, a goal I came alarmingly close to achieving, though I ultimately fell short. The real twist, however, came from an unexpected automotive crisis. As I drove, the haunting screech of my car's brakes pierced the air, a dreadful sound that echoed my urgency. Unable to ignore it any longer, I made the decision to head home about an hour early, compelled by both safety and necessity.

Once I arrived, it was time to tackle the maintenance work. To my surprise, the entire process was much more straightforward than I had anticipated. I managed to remove all four wheels and replace the brakes in under four hours, a feat I approached with both caution and determination. Throughout the task, I took periodic breaks to gather my thoughts, double-checking my work after each tire was reassembled.

Looking ahead, I know I'll have to undertake a complete brake replacement, including all the necessary hardware, come spring. For now, however, my car is serviceable once again. I conducted a test ride, my heart racing with anticipation, but I was relieved to find that everything held up perfectly; there were no moments of panic or worry about my lack of stopping power.

Tired, but accomplished...

As I reflect on my journey through life, I recognize that I have undergone significant evolution over the years. While this acknowledgment might come across as a display of arrogance or self-indulgence, that is far from my intention. My growth has manifested not only in my writing but also in how I approach everyday living. However, I believe there are moments when it's beneficial to return to one's roots.

When I first began my adult career, I stepped into the world of mechanics. To clarify, my initial experience was as a gas station attendant, a "gas jockey," if you will. Driven by necessity and family ties, I found myself drawn into the mechanics of the garage, assisting my brothers. At that time, I lacked formal skills, but I embraced the challenge, quickly learning to tackle brake jobs, tune-ups, and oil changes. It's been decades since I last worked on brakes, specifically in the mid-1980s.

Today, I revisited that skill set, and I was surprised by how profoundly I enjoyed the work. As I approach my 60th birthday, I find that my options for the future are wide open. Driving for Uber presents a flexible way to earn some extra cash, but let's be honest, it doesn't feel like a true career. While I am proud of my educational achievements, including a bachelor's degree and three master's degrees, I cannot shake the nostalgia for the satisfaction of working with my hands and getting them greasy.

My recent experience working on a Kia reminded me just how much I miss that tactile engagement. There's a certain fulfillment that comes from diagnosing issues and actually fixing them, something that the realm of academia and my professional life often lacks. After I finished the maintenance work on the car, I found a deep sense of satisfaction, albeit accompanied by exhaustion.

The remainder of my day was spent unwinding and rejuvenating. Though I have a long list of tasks awaiting me for the weekend, I've decided to let those wait until tomorrow. After all, moments spent reconnecting with my past can be just as important as ticking off items on a to-do list.

This was a DAY...

..I will take it....

September 14, 2025

I love the easy days...

With no pressing work responsibilities today aside from tackling the bookkeeping, I found myself with a surprisingly swift and intriguing day. I meticulously double-checked all my numbers from the week, confirming that everything is on track for the time being. With a sense of optimism, I look ahead, hopeful for a productive week to come, ready to adapt and move forward from there.

A good day...

I can't quite recall the last time I experienced a truly remarkable day, but today just might be the exception. It was a productive whirlwind! I tackled my daily to-do list with enthusiasm, catching up on a backlog of emails that had piled up over the weeks, each one a little entry in my journal of life. I even managed to cross off everything on my weekly list, a rare triumph that left me feeling accomplished.

The only task that remains untouched is recycling, but honestly, that can wait another week without any guilt. I was also thrilled to knock out nearly everything from my big list, leaving only the flower beds and the camping gear still lingering in the back of my mind. Those tasks were more like distant thoughts - important, yet not urgent. Overall, today felt like a small victory, reminding me that with a bit of effort, good days are always within reach.

A new week...

..a new chance....

September 15, 2025

Facing the bar...

I was determined to confront today with a sense of optimism, even though I didn't wake up feeling that spark of enthusiasm. Nonetheless, I tackled the day head-on, and my efforts paid off. I managed to stabilize last week's income while also achieving my goal for the first day of this week.

As expected for a Monday, the atmosphere was slightly tense; everyone seemed a bit on edge, navigating the usual start-of-the-week jitters. Amid the flurry of passengers, one rider stood out, a woman who claimed to be famous. She was an adult film star, although her name escapes me. I had never heard of her before, which seemed to slightly offend her. I mentioned, perhaps a bit evasively, that I don't engage with that sort of material. A small white lie, but if it spared her feelings, I thought, why not?

When I got home, curiosity got the better of me, and I looked her up, but still, she was a stranger to me. She was on an extended layover and expressed a craving for some good BBQ, good for her, I thought. I wrapped up the day just as I had planned; one day down and four more to go.

Pushing too hard?...

There's a small chance that I might be pushing myself a bit too hard. The day felt like a whirlwind, each moment blending into the next, leaving me in a state of blur by the time I returned home. Once there, my focus shifted to preparing the Jeep for tomorrow's sale. I meticulously cleaned the interior, wiping down surfaces until they gleamed, at least compared to the way they started, then took the time to spray off the exterior, washing away the stubborn road dirt that clung to it.

Yet, as evening descended, I found it difficult to recall the details of my workday - the conversations, the tasks, even when I had entered my home. For a Monday afternoon, the fatigue I felt was strikingly deep. I hoped, perhaps naively, that it was simply the lingering effects of a restless night's sleep. My nights have been haunted by bizarre dreams that defy logic, their shadows creeping into my waking hours and leaving me disoriented. Despite the weight of exhaustion, I pushed through the afternoon and resolved to climb into bed early, seeking solace in the hope of a restful night.

I have diligently updated all my social media accounts, ensuring they reflect the latest developments and trends. Each day, I craft engaging posts, striving to captivate my audience with intriguing topics while carefully avoiding any confrontational content. In today's complex digital landscape, achieving this balance is quite a challenge. However, I'm pleased to report that my follower count has already surged by 10%, which suggests my efforts are paying off.

Incorporating this into my morning routine has become a rewarding practice, and I'm committed to maintaining this momentum, especially with my podcast launch scheduled for the weekend after next. I would love to release it this weekend, but I'll be attending a Renaissance fair on Saturday, which will significantly cut into my available time.

A slow week?...

..that is weird....

September 16, 2025

No challenges...

The day enveloped me like a soft breeze, a gentle caress that seemed to lift the heavy weight of time, which typically rushed me toward an uncertain future. For the first time in what felt like eons, the hours did not crawl with the strain of expectation; rather, they glided by swiftly and silently, free from the usual knots of tension and turmoil.

I found myself immersing in this rare stillness, each moment unfolding like the petals of a delicate flower, an exquisite treat for my weary soul. The sunlight filtered through the leaves, creating dappled patterns on the ground that danced with the gentle sway of the wind. The air was fragrant with the earthy aroma of fresh grass and blooming flowers, enhancing my sense of peace. Days like this had faded into distant memories, seemingly lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Now, as I embraced this newfound tranquility, I couldn't shake the feeling that perhaps it marked the dawn of a refreshing change. Like the first hints of spring after a long winter, a sprinkle of calm would be a cherished gift amidst the chaos that often envelops existence. I closed my eyes for a moment, allowing the serenity to wash over me, hopeful that my heart had finally begun to align with the soothing rhythm of the world.

A task completed...

Today brings a significant turning point for me: the sale of my Jeep. For the past two years, this vehicle has felt like an anchor, weighing down my spirit ever since I stepped off the road and embraced a more stationary life. As I watch it drive away, a wave of nostalgia washes over me; I can't help but feel a tinge of sadness. Yet, there's also a sense of relief that the sale is finalized, knowing it has found a new home with someone who genuinely needs it and is fully aware of its quirks.

The process wasn't without its hurdles, though. I suspected the battery might be on its last legs and made sure to inform the buyer. However, as fate would have it, the real issue lay with the alternator. Despite this unexpected twist, they decided to go ahead with the purchase, choosing to tackle the repair themselves. I trust they'll take good care of it; after all, it is a reliable vehicle in its own right. I can only hope they embark on many adventures together and make lasting memories with it, just as I did.

The push is on?...

..and it is pushing back....

September 17, 2025

Continuing to tread...

So far this week, I've managed to stay on track with my tasks, but it's been at the cost of pushing myself to my limits. The long drives to reach distant locations for only brief runs have become a frustrating pattern that I can't shake off. It feels disheartening to invest so much time and energy for minimal returns, especially when I know I could be more efficient with my routes.

As I reflect on today, it was particularly challenging. The scheduling of my rides didn't align well, resulting in me falling $50 short of my goal for the week. This setback weighs heavily on my mind, especially because I'm aware that I'll also have to miss my extra shift this weekend due to travel plans. Missing that shift will make it even harder to reach my weekly target, which is frustrating.

Despite all this, I'm trying to stay hopeful for a better day tomorrow. I know that if I can just navigate through this rough patch, things may start looking up in the days ahead. Fingers crossed for an improvement!

A challenging day...

Pushing through today felt akin to wading through thick, sticky mud. This morning, a heavy wave of lethargy settled over me, making it difficult to garner the motivation needed for the day ahead. As the hours dragged on at work, the increasing distance between my runs loomed over me like a dark cloud, amplifying the anxiety that gnawed at my mind. By the time I finally returned home in the late afternoon, I was utterly drained, both mentally and physically.

When I opened the thoughtfully wrapped birthday gift from Laura, a wave of surprise washed over me. Inside was a fantastic camping table, sturdy and perfectly designed. It's one of those rare items you don't realize you need until it's right in front of you, and this certainly fits that bill. I can already envision the countless adventures waiting for me outdoors, but I can also see it serving practical purposes right here at home. I'm genuinely excited to put it to use in the wild and make special memories around it.

The day of birth...

..yep, it's my birthday....

September 18, 2025

That was unexpected...

I was primed to tackle the day with the unyielding energy of a rocket sled thundering down its tracks. Yet, the unexpected reality was that I woke up a full two hours behind schedule. For the first time in over a decade, I had overslept, an alarming jolt to my usually punctual routine. Despite this setback, I found a semblance of comfort in the fact that, once I finally launched into motion, I propelled myself forward with fervor. I dove headfirst into my tasks, determined to reclaim my lost time. Amazingly, not only did I catch up to my weekly goals, but I even managed to get slightly ahead. With unwavering focus and relentless determination, I pushed myself to the limit and worked a full, productive day.

I am not celebrating today...

Today marks my official birthday, but the real celebration will take place on Saturday at the vibrant Mount Vernon Renaissance Fair. I started the day two hours behind schedule, which left me feeling rushed and frazzled as I hurried through my morning. However, once I returned home and sat down for a delicious meal, my spirits lifted considerably.

Laura surprised me with thoughtful birthday gifts: an excellent camping table that promises to elevate my outdoor adventures and a wonderfully soft pair of yoga pants that feel like a warm hug. Willow also presented me with her gift today, and I was delighted to find a G10 mixer from my Amazon Wishlist. As I'm gearing up to restart my podcast, this mixer is going to be invaluable, and I can't wait to learn all its features and possibilities. Overall, despite the rocky start, my birthday is turning out to be quite special!

Success ...

..it is a good thing....

September 19, 2025

I made it!...

At the beginning of the week, I felt a flicker of concern about reaching my goals, especially with plans to take tonight and tomorrow off for an exciting trip to the Renaissance fair. However, as the week unfolded, my worries melted away. I not only managed to meet my targets but also carved out a refreshing 90-minute workout at the gym before heading home.

Today, the atmosphere with the riders was unusually subdued; they seemed more introspective than usual, allowing me some much-needed space. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what's stirring beneath the surface of the world right now, but it almost feels like a collective shift is occurring.

With two days ahead to unwind and revel in the festivities, my anticipation is building. I'm genuinely looking forward to the vibrant sights and sounds of the fair, embracing the chance to relax and immerse myself in a world of history and wonder.

Work, and gym, and rest, OH MYYYY!...

One of the most significant challenges I face each year in my adult life is my birthday. As the month of September approaches, I often find myself slipping into a deep blue funk; a kind of melancholy that feels impossible to shake off. This has been a recurring theme since my teenage years, casting a shadow over what should be a celebratory time.

This year, however, I managed to keep that deep sense of unease at bay until just a couple of days ago. While the familiar weight was still present, it did not engulf me as it had in previous years. Today was a surprisingly decent day at work, filled with moments of productivity and light-hearted interactions with my riders.

After work, I dedicated 90 minutes to the gym, a sanctuary that always lifts my spirits. As I huffed and puffed on the treadmill, I amused myself by diving into the pages of my current book. I couldn't help but notice the unusual glances I received from fellow gym-goers. I wondered if they were intrigued by the sight of someone reading while exercising or, perhaps, if they were simply taken aback at the idea of a book in a place dominated by screens and self-absorption.

With a wry smile at the absurdity of it all, I completed my workout and returned home, feeling a sense of accomplishment. I settled in to relax and unwind, eagerly anticipating the adventures awaiting me at the fair this weekend.

Hear ye, hear ye ...

..off to the knights of old....

September 20, 2025

Oblivion, finally...

Today marked a notable shift in my usual routine; I deliberately did not invest any time in my work responsibilities. Instead, I made a conscious decision to set aside the weekly record-keeping tasks that typically occupy my attention. My focus was solely on assessing the current demand for drivers, so I opened the Uber app and checked the heat map for both Memphis and Mount Vernon.

To my surprise, I discovered a significant demand for drivers in both cities, indicating a palpable need for service. This revelation aligns with the ongoing trend of a downturn in the number of available Uber drivers, which is beginning to create challenges for the company and its users alike.

I'm intrigued by the implications of this situation. If this trend of reduced driver availability continues, it could work to my advantage, potentially leading to increased ride requests and, consequently, more opportunities for earning. However, it's also worth noting the potential repercussions for riders, who may experience longer wait times or difficulty securing rides. It's a developing scenario that I'll be keeping a close eye on in the coming days.

Don your armor and grab your sword...

The adventure began with the early morning sun preparing to filter through the window, coaxing me awake. I seized the opportunity to knock a few items off my to-do list before the day truly began. By 7:00 AM, the excitement was palpable as the ladies and I prepared to embark on our journey to Mount Vernon, Arkansas, for the much-anticipated Renaissance festival.

The air was thick with heat and humidity, a classic hallmark of summer in the South, but as we drove, it seemed to dissipate, giving way to a more comfortable atmosphere during our two-and-a-half-hour trek. We arrived just as the festival opened, greeted by the jubilant sounds of laughter, music, and the distant clink of swords and axes from performers in lively costumes. As we waited for the rest of the family to join us, the anticipation built.

Within the first hour, everyone had arrived, and we exchanged stories, sharing updates on our lives amid the festive chaos. Then, as fair revelers scattered, it was time for us to explore our individual quests. Mine was to hunt down the elusive tricorn hat that would complete my outfit, while the ladies had their own treasures in mind.

The next few hours were a delightful wander through vibrant stalls and displays, shaded by a canopy of leaves swaying in the light breeze. Although I never did find my hat, I stumbled upon an extraordinary pair of kaleidoscope goggles that captured my attention with their swirling colors. Willow, with her keen eye for eclectic finds, unearthed a handful of charming trinkets that sparked joy, while Laura proudly donned a beautiful flowered crown that seemed to dazzle in the sunlight.

The only hiccup in our day was a brief, unexpected rain shower that sent us scurrying for cover. We took refuge in a cozy area featuring a semi-talented bagpiper and his partner, whose melodies filled the air with an enchanting atmosphere, making the moment feel almost magical, though a bit annoying. As the day drew to a close, we indulged in some extraordinary German cuisine from one of the food kiosks, the rich flavors awakening a deep nostalgia within me for the traditional dishes I used to cook in my younger days. While it had been a while since I'd tackled those recipes, a wave of inspiration washed over me as I contemplated making currywurst, a dish I haven't prepared in ages.

By the time we climbed back into the car for our return journey, I felt a wonderful exhaustion settle in. We navigated the drive home, arriving just as we had planned. As the sun prepared to dip below the horizon, marking the end of this delightful day, my mock birthday, I reflected on the joy and laughter shared. It truly felt like a celebration well worth remembering.

Rest ...

..weary traveler....

September 21, 2025

Take it easy, for now...

The day began with the familiar rhythm of routine, though on a smaller scale. My primary task was to wrap up the bookkeeping for the week, a job that lay before me like a neatly arranged puzzle; each number in its place, waiting to be finalized. With the figures straightforward and the process smooth, I quickly moved through the figures, feeling a sense of accomplishment wash over me as I completed each section. Once the financial tasks were neatly tucked away, I eagerly turned my attention to my personal endeavors, ready to dive into the projects that ignited my creativity and passion.

I needed downtime...

With the Renaissance fair now a delightful memory behind us, today was intended to be a focused day of tackling my extensive task list. However, I found myself needing to forgo that plan in favor of some much-needed rest. My legs and feet throbbed from the long hours of wandering through vibrant stalls and watching captivating performances. I approached my tasks with a slower pace, allowing myself to savor each moment as I checked off items on my list. Surprisingly, I managed to complete everything on my agenda, which left me with a little time to unwind and recharge. Reflecting on the weekend, I feel a sense of satisfaction and look forward with eagerness to the challenges and adventures that the coming week will bring.

A new week ...

..Not off to a great start....

September 22, 2025

A rough start...

My week got off to a rocky start, but I'm beginning to regain my footing. It was a long day, filled with challenges, but I ultimately reached my goal. The riders today were a mixed bag; most were straightforward, but a couple engaged me in conversation. Unfortunately, their topics delved into deep subjects that would require far more time than the duration of an Uber ride would allow. As the day drew to a close, just as my time ran out, I felt a sense of accomplishment and optimism. It seems like things are going to be alright after all.

Starting out tired...

One of the most significant hurdles of working as hard as I do is that when I finally return home, I feel utterly drained. My body, laden with fatigue, often finds itself at odds with my restless mind. After a long day, I made a half-hearted attempt at the gym, but my heart just wasn't in it; each rep felt like a monumental effort. Once I got back to the house, I sank into the couch, turning on an episode of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as I sought to unwind before bed. Though my eyelids felt heavy, my thoughts buzzed like an uninvited swarm, creating a frustrating mix that made relaxation elusive.

Meanwhile, Laura gathered some intriguing information about camping in the stunning wilderness of Arkansas. The idea of embarking on a two-day camping trip this weekend is beginning to take root in my mind. I'd need to purchase an Arkansas camping license and dig through my camping gear, rediscovering the essentials tucked away in storage. I'm not as spontaneous as I once was, but the prospect of a weekend under the stars, surrounded by the serenity of nature, whispers to the adventurous spirit inside me. Perhaps, just maybe, I can pull this off.

Well now ...

..Isn't that spiffy....

September 23, 2025

A royal pfft-fest...

It started as a seemingly uneventful workday, but that tranquility was fleeting. I completed a couple of rides, feeling pretty good about the day, when I unexpectedly rounded a corner. Suddenly, I was jolted by a cacophony of unsettling sounds from the front end of my car, metal clanging and groaning as if the vehicle were protesting against the deep abuse it had endured. I cautiously navigated my way back from Arkansas, each bump in the road sending shudders through the frame. Once I arrived, I anxiously awaited the doors of Firestone to swing open.

After nearly two grueling hours, the verdict was delivered: my car had sustained over $2000 worth of damage to its front end. The sway bar, struts, and an array of components in the suspension system lay in disarray, victims of the treacherous terrain that seems to plague Memphis. The roads here resemble a war zone, littered with gaping potholes that threaten to swallow a wheel whole, open construction sites lurking at every turn, and speed bumps that appear to have been installed without any regard for the vehicles traversing them.

While I managed to get the car diagnosed and repaired, the ordeal has forced me to seriously rethink my approach to driving for Uber and other rideshare services. The situation has truly become a battle against the very streets I depend on.

Time to rethink and rework...

Today's events have pushed me into a pivotal moment of transformation. The incident with my car and the subsequent damage to the suspension, all thanks to the crumbling Memphis roadways, served as a harsh wake-up call. It's clear that I need to reevaluate how I'm conducting my business to boost my income enough to cover the unexpected repair costs.

However, this situation has led me to a deeper reflection on my work habits, revealing a significant amount of wasted time that I had previously overlooked. It's often the case that we remain blissfully unaware of inefficiencies in our routines until they come crashing down on us; just as they did today.

With this newfound understanding, I've decided to overhaul my work schedule, tightening my approach to business operations to align with our goals and aspirations. While this shift will demand some sacrifice on my part, I realize that what I'm giving up is minimal. I've procrastinated for far too long, often finding myself sitting idly and staring into space when I could be channeling my energy into more productive activities.

Don't misunderstand me; there's a significant distinction between unwinding and squandering time. When managed properly, there's always room for both relaxation and productivity. I recognize that there are moments when indulging in a little mindless leisure is perfectly acceptable, but that should always remain the exception, never the overarching rule.

Regrettably, the costs I'm facing today, combined with the need to reorganize my schedule, have compelled me to set my camping plans aside for the time being. There's a chance these plans might remain on hold for the remainder of the season, depending on how everything unfolds.

Additionally, during a spur-of-the-moment trip to Home Depot, I discovered that my initial design for the Halloween spider was far more costly than I anticipated. The foam needed to create the spider's body alone would set me back nearly $130.00, and that's not even factoring in the expense for materials to construct the legs, which would amount to a hefty sum as well. Given these financial constraints, I've decided to shelve the spider project for this year and consider crafting a papier-mache version instead for next Halloween.

Thankfully, we already have a beautiful spider web, and I'm sure that with a little collaboration between Laura and me, we can conjure up something both creative and captivating. Even though I'm adjusting my plans, I remain excited about the season ahead, but it seems I need to tighten my schedule and budget a bit.

And thus ...

..It begins....

September 24, 2025

Back at it...

Today marks the beginning of my new work adventure, and I managed to spring out of bed and get ready within a brisk 45 minutes. Time may be marching on, but I'm determined to keep up the pace. I pushed through the morning hustle and easily hit my goals for the day.

After having the front-end damage to my car expertly repaired, it feels like I'm driving a completely different vehicle. It's incredible how quickly we can adjust to certain conditions, before the repairs, I hadn't fully grasped just how compromised my car had been.

I spent the day working an 11-hour shift, just as I had planned, and it unfolded smoothly. It's amazing how everything can come together when you're willing to push yourself and embrace the change.

Yep, I can do this...

This morning started off in a whirlwind of chaos as I accidentally overslept, throwing my entire routine into disarray. With only 45 minutes to prepare, I had to hustle to get out the door on time. I quickly sprang into action, racing through my morning routine, which felt like a mini obstacle course. I managed to check my emails, tackling a few urgent messages, and even found a bit of time to draft a blog post, an accomplishment I felt proud of despite the hectic start!

After a productive workday filled with quite a few deadlines, I finally wrapped up the book I had been completely engrossed in. It was one of those stories that stayed with you long after you turned the last page, and I felt a mix of satisfaction and nostalgia as I closed the cover. Later in the evening, I hit the gym, where the invigorating workout helped clear my mind and reignite my energy.

When I finally returned home, I looked forward to unwinding with my favorite show, a comforting ritual at the end of a long day. However, I soon found myself battling a persistent headache that made it difficult to drift off to sleep. I tried a few remedies to find relief, but it took some time before I was finally able to relax. Despite the challenges, I managed to make the most of my day, embracing both the chaos and the small victories that came with it.

Coming to an end ...

..which means nothing right now....

September 25, 2025

Grey and rainy...

The day kicked off with a symphony of thunderstorms, the heavy rain tapping insistently against the windows, but soon it gave way to a somber gray wasteland that seemed to loom ominously over the world. This dreary atmosphere seeped into the mood of my clients, who mostly sat in silence, their expressions mirroring the gloom outside. There was one exception; a woman whose rudeness was staggering. For the first time in ages, I found myself compelled to issue a negative review. During our ten-minute ride, she busied herself with rolling the windows up and down, mumbling to herself in frustration. Despite the challenges of a grueling twelve-hour shift, I pressed on. Even though I'm a day behind schedule, I remain on track with my goals, all things considered.

This is life...

Currently, my life revolves around a predictable cycle of work and sleep, an arrangement I've come to accept for the time being. This routine will continue until I achieve several important goals I've set for myself. I'm focused on recuperating the funds needed to repair the sway bar and address various support components on my car, which has been feeling a bit unsteady lately. Alongside this, I've got a list of tasks to tackle; items that have been lingering on my to-do list for far too long. Although it will require time and dedication, I'm confident in my ability to meet these challenges head-on.

As I flipped through the pages of my daily journal, a poignant memory struck me: it has been nearly a year since that fateful day when a lady plowed into me at the intersection on Covington Pike. Reflecting on that incident led me to recall a few other significant changes that have unfolded in Memphis over the past two years.

One notable transformation has been the sudden proliferation of car washes, while food trucks have seemingly sprouted on every corner, creating a vibrant yet chaotic atmosphere. The city has witnessed an explosion of both businesses in a remarkably brief span, turning familiar streets into something almost unrecognizable.

As I navigated my daily routes, I couldn't help but notice a disconcerting trend: many of the food trucks, vibrant with the promise of culinary delights, are now sitting idle and up on blocks, their bright paint faded and signs flipped to 'closed.' In stark contrast, the car washes, though numerous, often see only one or two customers trickling in throughout the day. This stark imbalance serves as a clear illustration of market oversaturation.

It's worth highlighting that established industries, which predate this sudden influx of new ventures, continue to thrive. The bustling big car wash in Bartlett remains perpetually busy, while Tacos N Ganas locations throughout the city enjoy a steady stream of loyal patrons. It is the newcomers, unfortunately, who are left struggling to make their mark amidst the crowded landscape..

The calm ...

..but is there a storm coming?....

September 26, 2025

The sun will come out...

Navigating through the day felt surprisingly effortless today. The riders were pleasant, their chatter a welcome backdrop to the rhythm of my work, and the assignments were conveniently clustered, allowing for a smooth flow. Overall, it turned out to be a rather enjoyable day. The only minor setback was a vague sense of distraction that lingered in the back of my mind. It wasn't anything specific pulling my attention away; rather, I simply found my usual focus slipping a bit. I hope this fog of distraction lifts soon. After powering through my 11-hour shift, I finally made my way home, ready to unwind and recharge for another day.

Where is a Genie when you need one?...

After a long day filled with various tasks, finally making it home on time felt like a small victory. This morning had been a bit frantic; I found myself running late and was only able to squeeze in a hurried version of my usual morning routine before darting out the door. However, as the sun rose to apex in the sky during my commute, I decided to treat myself and my family by stopping at Ali Baba, a charming local Mediterranean restaurant. I ordered a generous plate of shawarma, eager for our first experience with this flavorful dish.

As we dug into the shawarma, the aroma enveloped us, but as we dove in, I noticed the meat was slightly drier than I had hoped. Still, the blend of spices and the crispness of fresh vegetables brought a satisfying warmth to the meal. While I pondered if the $16 price tag fully justified the experience, I realized I'd be open to trying it again in the future.

After dinner, I spent the rest of the afternoon unwinding, crossing off a few lingering tasks from my to-do list. Tomorrow, I feel optimistic; I should be able to exceed my weekly goals and shift my focus into payback mode.

Today, I decided to skip the gym, and I might do the same tomorrow, as my muscles are feeling pretty sore from the week's activities. Plus, I need to tackle the front lawn, which requires my attention this weekend. At this point, it feels like I'm dancing a delicate ballet, carefully juggling all my commitments and responsibilities.

It is amazing ...

..what we can adjust to....

September 27, 2025

Long run, and done...

A journey to Jonesboro, Arkansas wrapped up my goals for the week. With today being Saturday, it's a satisfying achievement, as everything I accomplish tomorrow feels like a bonus. I can definitely feel the weight of fatigue settling in from my ongoing tasks, but I know I can adapt to the challenges ahead. I'm intrigued to see how everything will unfold as we progress. After all, every adventure brings its own experiences, and I'm ready to embrace it with open arms.

Back to the basics....

I can hardly believe that the month of September is slipping away so quickly. The anticipation of fall is in the air, accompanied by a refreshing chill that greets me each morning. Today, as the sun began to rise, I set out on my usual route, determined to meet my weekly goal. While I could have easily extended my run while in Jonesboro, I found myself feeling a bit weary from the relentless pace I've been keeping. So, I opted for a more grounded endeavor and returned home to tackle the front lawn.

With my new work schedule keeping me on my toes, I've been struggling to manage the extra tasks that once felt routine. However, I made significant progress today by organizing all my movie media into a single directory, preparing for the inevitable accumulation of new files. Out of the more than 650 files, I only lost one, a small setback that I was able to rectify almost immediately. With that accomplishment under my belt, I eventually retired to bed, ready to recharge and face whatever tomorrow brings.

And this...

..is just the first week....

Hit it! Yeah me!...

This week's mission was to achieve my financial goal, a task made considerably more challenging by an unexpected full day off spent getting my car repaired, a burden that added extra expense to my budget. Nevertheless, by 8:00 this morning, I had not only met but surpassed my target and was back home, feeling a sense of accomplishment.

I encountered a particularly intriguing situation while driving overnight from Saturday into Sunday morning. I completed ten rides, and remarkably, eight of them were with groups of lively college girls. They mostly hailed from the bustling entertainment districts of the city, radiating energy and excitement. During nearly all of these rides, they hinted at an intriguing practice and encouraged me to partake, albeit with a certain mindset. The practice is called "vagging" or "vabbing" Caught off guard, I found myself bewildered, unsure of what they meant.

My curiosity was finally piqued when I picked up a single rider who took the time to explain the urban trend. It involves an unusual and quite provocative ritual: inserting fingers into intimate areas and using them as a sort of unconventional perfume. The idea is to entice a would-be suitor, someone with a specific outlook to "snuffle" or sniff the scent as a form of attraction.

What struck me as particularly amusing was that this "certain way of thinking" they referred to was a clear alignment with liberal ideals. I was left pondering whether I should be intrigued by this bizarre practice or appalled by it. Nevertheless, it's undeniable that these young women have devised a rather unconventional strategy to generate liberal interest. I can only wish them luck in their quest.

Done, dude!....

I've wrapped up my work for the week and found myself back at home, diving into a long list of tasks to catch up on and prepare for the upcoming week. After a whirlwind of activity, I'm feeling completely drained, but I refuse to let the fatigue pull me down.

The most poignant moment of my day came when I received a message from an old friend, a familiar name that stirred up a wave of nostalgia. While I won't divulge their personal details without permission, I need to share that they've been facing a tough battle; they've been diagnosed with cancer. Though the prognosis is optimistic, I can sense the fear behind their words. It's understandable; anyone in their situation would be scared. My heart goes out to them, and I genuinely hope for their recovery.

Regrettably, that heavy conversation kept me up longer than I intended, pushing my bedtime back by two hours. Now, I'm bracing myself for a challenging start to the week ahead. But you know what? I believe I can handle it.

A rough start...

..But I got this....

Monday! Really?...

I woke up feeling ripped and ready to tackle the day, my body energized and my mind buzzing with possibilities. However, a sense of apprehension lingered in the back of my mind. Undeterred, I dug my heels in and climbed into the car, determined to make the most of the day ahead. Just as I was settling in, disaster struck, my glasses broke. The earpiece snapped, and while it might seem minor, it was an annoying inconvenience that would require a trip to replace it.

But I refused to let that cumbersome setback dampen my spirit. I turned the key in the ignition, the engine roaring to life, and steeled myself for what was next. As I prepared to navigate the roads, just my luck, I blew a headlight, further complicating an already rocky start. Despite the string of misfortunes, I focused on the silver lining: I managed to shore up the numbers from the weekend and even met my Monday goals. I chose to view the day's challenges as a test of resilience, believing they could serve as a good omen for the days to come. With that mindset, I resolved to keep moving forward.

Strange optimism....

I navigated through the day with an unusual surge of determination, especially for a Monday. It felt as though the shell of an egg had shattered around me, leaving me with a sense of invincibility that both thrilled and unnerved me. This potent mix of euphoria is disconcerting, and I can't pinpoint exactly what's fueling it. I find myself exceptionally alert, my senses heightened and attuned to the world around me.

I loathe being that person who questions the authenticity of the positivity enveloping them, but today, I'm embracing that role. I'm entrenched in work, pushing through 12-hour shifts, yet somehow I manage to tick items off my to-do list each day. While this feels like a step in the right direction, I can't shake the feeling that this relentless pace might not be sustainable.

I yearn to forge ahead, to clear out items from my overflowing Amazon wishlist, a bit of a self-reward that walks hand-in-hand with getting ahead, and ultimately, to find contentment. Still, there's a nagging sensation in the back of my mind, an eerie feeling that I'm overlooking something important. All I can do is remain vigilant. The afternoon flowed by, a blend of indulging in my favorite show and preparing to retreat to bed, where I hoped to find some clarity.

Where have all the good men gone...

..and where are all the gods?....

Continue the push...

The workday unfolded in a rather uneventful manner, far removed from the excitement I had anticipated. The rides came steadily, each one offering a mix of individuals with their own stories to tell, and for the most part, the atmosphere remained surprisingly pleasant. I pushed through the hours with little challenge, ultimately achieving my goal for the day, which brought me right back to the familiar streets near home.

The final ride of the day took me to Goodwill, a place I've visited numerous times with a regular passenger who always has a warm greeting waiting for me. Today, they surprised me with a thoughtful present, which left me feeling appreciated. I plan to snap a picture of them for the personal section in my album next month, I can't wait to showcase the new pair of boots.

After that lovely moment, I made a quick detour to the car wash. The task of vacuuming out the car had long been overdue, and as I sucked up the wayward debris, I couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. It was the perfect way to wrap up the day, leaving my vehicle refreshed and ready for new adventures.

There is that optimism again. Hmmm....

As the sun rose to apex, casting a hot glow over the landscape, I made my way home after a fulfilling workday. I arrived right on schedule and felt a sense of accomplishment, prompting me to slip on my new boots. Despite their three-inch heels, I found my footing surprisingly steady as I wandered around the house, getting accustomed to their rough elegance. To complete the look, I grabbed my white cowboy hat, and the pairing was perfect; it had a rustic charm that felt just right. Instantly, I decided this would be my first photographic project for October.

Speaking of October, I couldn't help but marvel at how swiftly September seemed to vanish without a trace, leaving only memories in its wake. With the year drawing to a close, I reminded myself to stay focused on the tasks ahead. There was a long list of goals I aimed to achieve, with two priorities shining the brightest: finishing that elusive book and finally launching my podcast. These were the cornerstones upon which I would build my momentum moving forward.

However, not everything went smoothly today. Laura's car was acting up again, a persistent annoyance that couldn't be ignored. After a brief discussion, we agreed that I would help her take it to Firestone first thing in the morning. I knew that procrastination would only lead to bigger problems down the road, so tackling this together felt like the right approach.

To wind down after a long day, I settled in to watch the chilling movie "The Descent," its suspenseful twists keeping me on the edge of my seat. Soon, however, the fatigue of the day caught up with me, and it was time to retreat to the comfort of my bed, ready to embrace whatever tomorrow would bring.

The month of October has been added and is linked below. Into FALL we go.

October has arrived, check it out.
